Listening to these experiences makes me think the medical treatment of this is something that should be considered as medical malpractice at any age. The only treatment should be trying to help people make peace with the body they have and not mutilate it by chopping off healthy tissue.

Another potential therapy would be to focus on a project, whether writing fiction, or learning music, or mathematics. It isn't a panacea, but it will take your mind off your problems. Then you can look at what triggers bad feelings and look for ways to overcome those; through acceptance, avoidance of those thoughts or triggers, resilience, humour, stoicism. The whole transition/detransition thing seems like a massive spiritual journey and so ultimately the answer is to be found inside you, in the spirit. A prayer is silent, and powerful thing.

To the person who said, "I was so sure about this and now I can't trust myself". That's very similar to going through a divorce. Divorce is very painful and many think the same thing. I don't know how to choose a partner, I can't trust myself. It comes to me that these young people ought to turn to philosophy for direction. Therapists are dingbats. They too are using you. They are trained how to keep you coming back. Spend some time meditating. The brain is a strange organ. We need to recognize when it is thinking and just say 'thinking' and let the thoughts go, don't get stuck on them.

I don't understand how people could have been prescribed puberty blockers at 16 yrs old??? For the short story, I was fostering a teen with whom I went to consult a gender affirming doctor who said that 14 yrs old was too old for blockers... ???

@@Malky5279I’m not the same person, but I can answer. He blocks people, deletes comments, is condescending, and it’s not always warranted. He’s just not at all interested in keeping people as loyal followers, and doesn’t seem to need to have an audience. If you go to his KZbin channel you’ll see very few people commenting because he’s blocked and deleted most of the people that used to follow him.

OMG!! 20 years of talk therapy. If you weren't crazy when you went in, you had to be crazy when you stopped. You sound narcissistic. Explaining the details to your 'condition' in such great detail is what narcissism looks and sounds like. Recognize when you are doing and don't do it, let the details go. Focusing on one's self creates crazy.
