I don’t blame any rider for doping or using exemptions to bypass doping regulations. Its the most brutal sport on the planet. It was an unfair but level playing field if you wanted to be competitive.

Anyone riding clean not only wouldn’t win the TDF, they wouldn’t even finish anywhere near the top twenty. It was thus, for right or wrong a level playing field. Lance cheated, but so too did every other too rider. Team Sky were supposedly anti doping, but we’ve since found out it was using exemptions to get around doping regulations. Riis is why UCI decided to crack down more on dope because believability was at stake when a mid water carrier suddenly wins Tour because his system takes better to the dope than the more established riders. With Hinault and Fignon it was more ignored but after 6ft3 Indurain started blazing up mountains they realised more regulations were needed. Today they still dope but to lesser extent to avoid Riis and Basso incidents and UCI turns blind eye if the rider is insanely talented in the youth ranks like Pogacar.
