the oldest gar on record was 86 years old this one is likely around that age i dont think most people understand just how long these fish take to grow to this size.
@farmerbob45543 жыл бұрын
I do understand how long these prehistoric animals take to grow to those proportions and as the apex predator how few are in any single watershed. I wish they would gain a more understanding following as a serious game fish and not a trash fish to be killed indiscriminately.
@TyPigPatrol3 жыл бұрын
what is equally impressive, is that this fish can grow to over 8 feet in water than you cant see more than a few inches into. how great of a predator is that!

That is a good sized Gar. It's pretty close to as big as you are probably going to catch anywhere as far as an old mature fish. It's a good thing to think that we still have wildlife of this caliber down here in the Southern states. Around 1978 we were catching some good ones over here in Louisiana out of one of the bayous that run through this part of the country. The water and the flow looked pretty close to what was in this video. Over here it was a little bit muddier but not much. We caught 17 in 5 days and only kept 4 of the smaller, younger fish to stock up the freezer. All of the largest and oldest we put back into the water. Our two largest fish were just over 8 ft also and we weighed the two largest and one weighed 320 and the largest weighed in at just over 350 and it was 46" around the belly. I think that one was also a female. It's been a long time since I've been fishing for them but I know we still have a bunch over here still from just talking and keeping up with friends. When I was about 13 years old an Alligator Gar taken out of a small lake that Bayou DeCannes runs through and that gar was 11ft 4" and weighed 460+ pounds. That was 55 years ago and there are still larger fish than that over here. My own opinion but I think I could prove it if I had enough motivation to do so, especially if I wasn't getting so damned old now. It's Ok though, old is still a better alternative than the other being dirt in my face. Keep on fishing boys while you still can enjoy it. Jesus would not have had to have very many fish like the one y'all just caught to feed the multitudes, would he?
@Lightwish013 жыл бұрын
*The current world record catch is (8’-5.25”) 101.25” (2572 mm or 2.572 m) long and weighed 327 lbs or 148 kg. Your catch in comparison is 97” (8’-1”) long. THAT MEANS YOUR CATCH IS ONLY 4.25” or 108 mm OFF THE WORLD RECORD LENGTH! The current world record was donated to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science. It’s AMAZING that your fish here is DEFINITELY in the same size range as the world record! In fact yours could actually be larger by weight if only we had that number! Amazing catch and POSSIBLY the world record...for real!*
