They work with Linux, but the anti-cheat blocks it because it does not like the device environment (detects Linux as an operating system, compatibility layers etc). Easy Anticheat worked with Valve to make a toggle to allow it, and for games that use it all the developers have to do is enable it.

@@jfaristide well, majority of deck users promote it because it can apparently run any triple a game perfectly. i was debating with a guy and he sent me a video of someone playing sonic frontiers on the steamdeck. it took five minutes with freezing to start up, and launched the handheld to 50 degrees. then they played at the lowest settings, getting drops to 30 fps every now and then, and the handheld was around 80 degrees… that thing really holds on but doesnt perform at all…

Steam deck is not for people who like a streamlined experience like the switch or a PS5. It's for people who like to tinker, like PC gamers. You can install windows on it, you can install emulators on it (play ps2, ps3, switch, and those too seamlessly), you can code on it, install decky plugin which allow to change saturation and themes, etc etc. Its a dream device for PC gamers.

It's not a steam deck problem. It's a developer problem! The problem is lack of developers enabling the anti cheat for there games. Example of this is rainbow which is using battle eye, which has linux support now. There are also root kit ant cheats that not only create security problems but also are able to access everything on your PC. This is because it will boot up before your os even boots up. If anyone is planing on playing games with a root kit anti cheat ask yourself this. Are you OK letting your friend install something on your PC that allows them to look at everything you installed and have on it? If no then you shouldn't play COD mw2 or val to begin with. For anyone wondering on how to remove the root kit from your PC, you can't! Well you can but its not worth it, just back up your stuff and reinstall windows.

Not everything works at the press of a button, so they label it useless. I use my steam deck more than my gaming laptop docked play and all…I have a gaming laptop as well and after adding another 8gig stick of ram and a second nvme 2 SSD. It was a little over a thousand with taxes….the only game I play on my laptop is undisputed and racing games since I have a wheel…my kids hate that I don’t use my pc…and I plan on purchasing one with a 40 series if possible and not use it and let it sit pretty.

So, the only EAC games rolling out Linux support are the ones with native Linux binaries. Therein lies the problem, as most of the games on Steam are Windows games being played on deck through an emulation layer.

Idk when this video was made but there's like ULTRA easy tutorials now (especially some by deck wizard) to configure your steam deck for a dual boot. Like you literally turn the device on, and select windows or steam os. Sleep modes for both work perfectly Updates work perfectly I did it for a bit to play destiny but my ssd got full so I had to upgrade and been lazy since. But dual boot steam deck is the way to go. Don't spend $1k just for another windows hand-held when you can install windows without giving up the steamOS experience

To add to the other comments here, for the games that dont support Linux gaming you can always dual boot your system and play those games on a Windows partition. SteamOS can't play Fortnite or Minecraft Bedrock edition so if I want to play either of those games i have to go into windows to do so. I'm not gonna sit here and say it's the easiest thing ever or it works seamlessly but i was able to do it first try just by watching a KZbin video. If anything it's pretty neat the system is so versatile.

My favorite way to use windows on the steam deck was to get a cheap 512gb nvme drive ($30) and install it into a usb c enclosure ($10) and use a usb c splitter so you can still charge it and use the nvme drive in an enclosure. Doesn't look too bad and paired with the deck mate, it's perfect. Boot windows 11 externally works really well and you never have to mess with the steam deck's software. Highly suggest it for those who want/need windows on their deck

a proper dual boot takes 15 mins and 2 usb flash drives which most people have laying around, otherwise literally 2.50 each at walmart

That is the biggest issue with the steam deck. I just put windows on a large capacity sd card and, I use Handheld Companion to get full functionality out of the controls.

Fails to mention that those other machines costs as much as a gaming laptop or mid grade desktop. You can now get a steam deck for like 350 if bought used.

Install WinDeckOS and have Steam load on start up in big picture mode. Pretty much the same thing without the compatibility issues. Also does not come with the bloatware that a normal Windows install would have. Lastly it has all the necessary drivers installed for everything to function properly. I do love the stock SteamOS though.

There are so many workarounds, I can play pretty much every AAA game with anti-cheat on my Steam Deck. It can be frustrating sometimes but you can get just about anything to run on the steam deck. (Also not talking about Dual booting windows or anything like that. Linux and Steam OS is what makes the steam deck great)

A good example is things like Lutrice, with that software I am able to play all Ubisoft titles with anti-cheat, im able to play all Epic game store games etc. I’m looking to getting game pass working on there too one day.

You can still play unsupported games on steam deck. I play Contaband police and Ms flight sim on steam deck.

Dual booting and running rEFInd on steam deck make swapping between OS’ so easy. Can run any game now (very well might I add) without having to spend a ton of money getting another device

@@thedoomslayer5863 search up “how to dual boot steam deck” or even “how to quad boot steam deck” by Deck Wizard and he’ll explain it in his tutorials. It essentially acts as a boot up screen for your steam deck whenever you turn it on so that you can choose if you want to use steam os or windows. I’m not too great at describing it other than that but if you have any questions after watching feel free to ask or look in the comments of his videos. I highly recommend it though

I put Windows 11 on my Steam Deck the second I took it out of the box. Love playing MW2 on it. Honestly, the Windows experience on the Deck is preferable to me than other devices because of the track pads. Makes it so much easier to navigate than using the joystick as the mouse.

I installed windows but man I was sick of the tinkering. I'd have some games working fine but then I'd have issues with other games that was working fine on steamos. Plus steamos is just an amazing experience.

I am happy that we can play so many games in Linux now. Before gaming in Linux was crazy talk. I thank Valve for making the effort and succeeding more and more each day. Also, thanks to Valkin, proton, etc for keep pushing gaming on Linux
