I love the drifting in this game. It looks like Someone on the development team understands how drifts work and where the pros and cons lies with them, unlike MK specifically speaking MK8 Deluxe. MK8D's drift mechanic feels semi-auto or too child safe at best, karts and bikes never over drift a corner and with that in mind the player never have to apply much counter-drifting around corner to avoid spin outs, and there's an extremely specific amount of cornering provided when drifting. and to make matters worse, you don't lose speed when you drift therefore drifting in MK8D is heavy relied on timing.

It even had in game commentary from famous fgc you tubers and commentators from across the globe. Sadly when the game eventual launched outside of Japan it became really obvious that the devs were only interested in the Japanese arcade market and the PC/ international release was just there to fufill crowd funding promises. Just utterly abandoned everywhere, which was a shame since it was mechanically cool.

Didn't it get an updated release right when the US version came out and due to contractual issues they couldn't release the newest version in the West causing everyone in the West to abandon the game because they didn't wanna play an outdated version? Speed race is all about skill so the gap between f2p and p2w isn’t that bad since the only difference between free and paid karts are higher stats. The only time this will actually get in the way is at the highest competitive level where everyone is playing almost perfectly and the stat difference starts to matter. At casual to semi-competitive ranges it isn’t really an issue.If you keep up with the newest f2p karts you’ll easily be able to win agains players with the newest paid kart if you’re more skilled than them. If you do decide to spend money you only need to buy a kart every 3-4 seasons or so(~6-8 months) as the stat difference between each kart is minimal. Item mode is a different story…. Item karts have skills that greatly affect gameplay.They do things like change an item to an upgraded version that has altered effects, increase your starting boost, decrease(or completely nullify)the effectiveness of attacks from certain items or give an item if you successfully land an attack. Besides karts item mode also has pets.Pets provide defense against items by decreasing the time you’re affected by them or have a chance to block them completely.There are also a few pets with offensive capabilities that automatically attack with an item when getting hit. Due to skills item mode has great potential for p2w which the devs utilize quite well. The best(or worst) example is a paid kart released in s4 called Seth that has such incredible defensive skills that even now in s13 (16 months later) it is still the best defensive kart. With item modes being so complex it’s hard to give a proper explanation of how p2w affects it but the short of it is that payed karts and pets simply have stronger and more unique skills that provide a significant advantage over free karts. I hope my comment was able to answer your questions about payed items even if the section about item mode was a bit simple (I’m a speed main so I don’t have that much knowledge of the item meta :/)
@magicalcapi91483 жыл бұрын
@@Iusti06 It was very comprehensive, thank you very much for sharing! Of course, I understand that there's much more to know Interesting that stats don't affect much, at least for the race mode. But I'm glad, because it's the ideal situation
@TheSquareOnes3 жыл бұрын
Interesting, it sounds kinda like Pokemon Unite where you can pay to level up your items faster and thus have objectively higher stats than F2P players (at least until they grind a full set of three items up to max the slow way) but the stat boosts are so small relative to the base stats of the characters that it doesn't actually make that much of a difference. I'm curious to know how this approach tends to work on average for the games using it, obviously it pushes less informed players to dump as much money as possible into the game so they can have the max stats even if they don't need them but it also pushes away potential players who hear "you can buy higher stats" and stop listening to anything after that point. It's probably a very profitable approach and this might not be a popular take but I think this might actually be a pretty healthy direction for these kinds of microtransction-driven games to go in when they don't have other good options for financing, keep the playing field mostly even while giving more devoted players something meaningful to invest in isn't a terrible balance.

Probably my favorite part about this game is the control of it. It just has such a good weight and the drifting has such a good learning curve (no pun intended) that I haven't really seen in many other kart racers which is in part due to the fact that it isn't very casual friendly with things like steering control and finding the proper line going into a turn being much more important here. I also like how pretty much everything in this seems to be tailored made to bettering yourself as a racer such as the daily challenges that want you to get through certain parts of track fast enough or how new records are set for tracks in time trial every week. I just wish it wasn't a free to play game and instead was something we could just pay full price for with proper unlocks and modes to go with it.

I think the western market may misinterpret this game somehow. Although this game has an item mode, it is not the "main" mode, so it shouldn't be compared too much with Mario Kart. This game's main thing is the speed mode where you compete with other players in basic to difficult maps which is really fun. I hope people see past the mario kart expectation because this game is actually skill intensive. To the point that it wants its players to learn the necessary skills needed (Which are licenses from the lowest tier to the pro license.) before getting to try out the harder maps. That might be the only challenge because some players don't want to put in the effort to learn those skills. Regardless, everyone should give this game a try! Especially that there's a new one that just came out, Kartrider: Drift.

It's really sad to see this game being treated so poorly in the West especially because I believe that KRR+ is much better than any other kartriding game. Im heavily invested into this game but our server barely has any players on it. Most of the rooms get filled with bots to create the illusion that it's a packed game, which it isnt. I think that one of the reasons it just wont work here is because of the reasons you mentioned but also because it looks like a gacha game with P2W elements. While the buyable karts are better they're still worthless if you dont know how to play the game. Any skilled player could beat you in a standard kart, thats how heavy skill-based this game is. It's such a great game that many would love if only they'd ignore the gacha things and if we would get some freaking support from Nexon. I really want all servers to merge but that'll never happen.

This game is punishing if you were to even fail a corner, anyone could pass you, that is on the higher brackets though. Mmmm, Nexon. Hell, 2007 Nexon. I still remember playing DFO back then, enjoying my merry little time, and all of a sudden a GM just comes on and goes "Yeah uh, this game is getting shut down."

Been waiting for KartRider: Drift on Steam for a while now. Played a BETA at one point, seems promising.

It's Nexon, they publish eastern games in the west, separating the playerbase, filling them with microtransactions and rereleasing old content as if it's new. As the game gets older, the few remaining whales are milked out of their remaining money, and then the game shuts down. They have done this countless times with countless games.

i have a history with this game man! i played the facebook version in the early 2013 i used with some mutual friends to invade the internet cafe of one of our buddy "the owner" Mohammed (may god bless you, Rest in Peace my friend) doing non stop tournaments and costom events everytime we get time to gather around. it was one of the most enjoyable times in my life and the most brutal at the same time 😭 and yep ... due to the sudden shutdown of the game in late 2014 or so ...our group meetup also disbanded, we tried the alternative ps3 version but it was less fun and not everyone could afford the ps+ subscription nor the ps3 itself ... then comes the tragedy when our friend had a brutal car accident that took out his life 😭 after the condolences that was the official time everybody stopped hanging out with each others, and everybody moved on with their lives. slowly dropping out from best friends to friends to acquaintances. now days i was able to maintain only two of my old buds still good'n all but the rest .... they varry from ppl who still can chill with u sometimes to some who won't even give you the "hey" nod sign unless it was a rare occasion!.

There's no way it'll take off in America if they keep treating the player base over here like this, which will give them an excuse to cut off all support
