Honestly, I feel like Bowser's down smash is underrated a lot. This move is faster than Wolf's down smash, has similar range and kills about as early if not earlier. But, in terms of 2-framing, you're just always better with f-tilt, in terms of punishing, you're just better off with grounded up-b, and for killing, well, you're Bowser. I feel like Bowser d-smash isn't even his most underrated move - up tilt is a monster. Massively disjointed anti-air that covers platform, kills, combos with the late hit, and is incredibly hard to challenge if you're trying to land. And yet I barely hear anyone talking about the move.
@Lychem3 жыл бұрын
@@kerwinmaass3731 I feel like since Bowser is mostly known for five moves (fair, ftilt, fire breath, side b and grounded up-b), a lot of people tend to forget how good the rest of his kit is. @Tahmis_Googboi3 жыл бұрын
As a Robin main, I wish their down-smash got a fair bit more spotlight. When you’ve got the Levin Sword, it’s strong, covers both sides with a zap, sends at a pretty useful angle, and can chew through a shield if it’s already damaged or if paired with Arcthunder. It does suck that it’s on a pretty slow character, but like most down-smashes, it tends to be on the faster side, making it a pretty clear choice over Robin’s side-smash. I consider it and Up-Air two of their best moves for kills when the sword comes out to play.
@Tonjit413 жыл бұрын

@@Tonjit41 That's another great use for it! It's been pretty handy for covering ledges or even two-framing. another underrated kirby move is his upair, it may not be as fast, nor as disjointed but the knockback direction is very nice, especially for the low amount of knockback it does, great combo starter at lower percents, its hitbox is not big but it starts from the bottom front corner of kirby, making it very good for space control, and it always launches upwards with almost no knockback between 0-38ish making it a relatively safe combo starter overall, people may think it is irrelevant since kirby has fair, but they forget about one thing that messes him up, platforms, some of them lead him to cancel his fair after an fthrow interrupting his combo with stunning amounts of endlag, it happened to me in a los of maps with slightly lower plats, but if you use upair u can still combo since it has much less endlag and is almost equally easy to hit, you can regrab if you land on the plat, or make do or a jablock or an uptilt to continue your string, and people may think it is irrelevant since fair is faster, but one thing people dont realize is that kiry depends a lot on his grab for neutral, especially with how disjointed his boost and pivot grab are, making it some of the few safe approach tools he has with kind of a low to mid risk with an extremely high reward, now imagine not being able to position yourself wherever you want because of aiming for a grab, making kirbys already below decent neutral even worse, but if u just make this minor adjustment of using upair u can mix up your opponent and gain an upperhand in damage no matter your position in the stage, for example maps with platforms low enough for kirby to get his fair cancelled hence interrupting his combo game, into an even more threatening thing by cancelling your upair early on and extending your combo, one niche setup I use is fthrow upair(landing on plat) uptilt, reverse uptilt bair, extremely safe, very tight framedata and high damage, plus putting your opponent in a terrible position after the bair, with some characters that fall faster and a less drifty on the air you can make a sourspot reverse upair after the reverse uptilt into bair winning even more damage

Little Mac's Straight Lunge is one of the most underrated moves in the game. Outside of being an amazing shield break punish, it's a low commitment ledge trapping tool as it allows you to punish roll, ledge attack, and neutral getup on reaction all in one move while allowing you to quickly cancel it in the event that they ledge jump or stall (you can even cancel directly into up smash). It also has 8% base heavy armor starting on frame 1, which lets Mac easily bypass the opponent's primary juggling tool in many relevant MUs such as Game & Watch, Palutena, Byleth, and Mythra. Of course, this is something that can be baited out, but just the fact that it starts on frame 1 is a huge deal that eases Mac's otherwise awful disadvantage state by forcing his opponent to respect the option. Nobody talks about Straight Lunge, but there have been many times where I've felt genuinely neutered while I had KO Punch because of how good this move is.

I'm not surprised no one talks about it considering most people barely remember Robin even exists, but Robin's jab is absurdly good. It comes out frame 4 with a disjoint, Jab 1 hits unreasonably high up (even onto Battlefield platforms) and sets up for the rest of the move, the Elwind finish does 18% overall and can be a kill move occasionally, the Arcfire finish is massive and kills quite early (especially at ledge, which is really powerful considering it's frame 4), and every other Arcfire jab is essentially free on durability cost with how Arcfire's durability works. Really, the only bad things to say about it are that Jab 2 has some issues connecting and that it costs durability, but those are rarely a problem. Also saw someone else mention it, but I'll also just quickly mention Levin Down Smash. It's not particularly fast, but it's Robin's strongest kill Smash (on the character with Levin Sword, remember), and it has a monstrous hitbox that hits all around Robin, even _above him._ It practically handles ledge trapping all by itself, and this is on the same character as Arcfire. It's also his best Bronze kill move, for... whatever that's worth. One other quick one, Min Min's Down Smash. Her Up Smash is the infamous one, but Down Smash is just as stupid; hell, it's even _faster._
@Mercurius193 жыл бұрын
Yes. I'd argue that Robin's jab is one of the best in the game. Another thing about it is that if you mix up which finisher you use, you can get people to DI into the blast zone. I once managed to kill a Fox at 75% or so be tricking him into DI'ing out after the fire finish because he was expecting the wind to send him up.

I think Greninja’s grab is honestly kinda nutty. It’s frame 10 so it’s slower than most grabs but in return it has a ton of range, particularly the pivot grab being slightly slower than most grabs but insanely huge. Seriously look at the hit box if you haven’t. Plus it has about as much end lag is most regular grabs. It was basically a slightly slower version of Palutena’s pre nerf grab since it has such a large grab box. On top of that he has a great early combo throw into his up air which is kind of his entire game plan and leads into his ferocious juggling or drag downs into jablocks. I’m not sure if people talk about how good it is but I think it’s really under appreciated.

I'm also a Shuriken of Light defender. Given how reactable and punishable Gale Strike and Chakram are, the option of quick chip damage is nice. I suppose the close hitbox not flinching is to prevent it from true comboing into anything, since it has lower end lag than many projectiles. If you space it right while approaching in the air, though, it can true combo into F-air or U-air, which can kill.

Falco down tilt is pretty underrated. For a move that as universal as a swiss army knife, I hardly see other Falcos using it. It combos, it kills, it's safe, it shield pokes, fast, 2 frames, kill confirms, good damage, decent range, and spammable, but no one really uses it that much. Sure, up tilt is more rewarding and nair, dair and fair can all lead to kills more often, but when the opponent is stuck in shield at 140% and nothing combos anymore, down tilt becomes one of the most important moves in Falco's arsenal.

I guess it being frame 8, his slowest tilt, as well as the sweetspot being the closest hitbox might have something to do. At least it's better than it used to.

I'm kinda surprised I never see anyone talk about Banjo's Breegull Blaster. I know it's largely due to his lack of representation, especially at higher levels where the move finally starts to see more use because of its complex nature, but it's such a vital tool in his kit, helping him close gaps, start and extend combos, and even net kills as early as 60% once you've mastered the KFC tech and all of the wild confirms it opens up

It has great horizontal range, high shield pushback and good shield damage, and can be impossible for almost every character to whiff punish or punish it out of shield-Ike can often get another ftilt out before the opponent can reach him. Gunner utilt is a fairly disjointed frame 5 anti air which kills, it's pretty amazing. @MattDustyParker3 жыл бұрын
Great video as usual Mock. Some interesting choices, a few eye openers like Meta knight. Lucario's Aura Sphere was the first move I thought of. Charge "fireball" moves are nothing unique to Lucario, nor is the wavebounce movement and maneuverability. What is unique to Aura Sphere is the active hitbox while charging. Lots of shenanigans there including shield break set ups; a good excuse to talk about Aura Sphere. Incineroar has plenty of worthy moves, as pointed out by another commenter. Incineroar has tons of actually great moves, with the sole restrictions being his mobility. Suplex on Mii brawler is kinda disgusting. 22% in a one on one when not stale. But a funnier move for content would be his counter throw. Specifically if you showcase it working on moves like Puff Sing and Banjo Wonderwing. And my last suggestion is Hero up special. Even after the last year or so with it being used more by hero mains, I still think it's a great OUt of shield option on top of a funny ledge guarding move. Have a great day Mock!

Focus attack. I don't believe anyone thinks it's bad but then again I never hear anyone talk about how broken it is. It's a frame one full body invincibility. It lasts for a couple of seconds, it can be directionally canceled and has a hit box with 20% damage if fully charged. Landing it may not be easy but it's definitely possible as a mix up, and if it does land you can get ridiculously early kills since it also crumbles to let you get the combo/kill confirm of your choice started. You can also B-reverse it, which means you can change direction in the air a total of 3 times (B-reverse, directional cancel into directional air dodge). Mixing these three directions up basically makes you a little down B spamming Samus at times. Also, incredibly, it does enough shield damage and shield stun it can be used for the most amazing shield break set ups (check out RoninX's video on it if interested). I play the FGCs, and focus attack is the only attack I really miss going to Terry or Kazuya.

Samus zair alone makes some matchups like 70% +. The other move I can think of is min min's grab. While it is slow, knowing how to use it is a requirement for min min, as it catches landings she cant cover with arms without getting punished for swinging arms into a shield while being too close.

Another underrated move for me, a Greninja main: Greninja's shadow sneak is very good. It's easy to guard against if you know what you're looking for, but if you know how to mix it up it can just be straight up an Uno reverse card. My favorite use is bypassing big projectiles for a surprise ko, but its recovery use is equally great. It has stupid horizontal range (and you can still hydro pump after that) and can completely flip the script against edgeguarding, allowing you to get behind them in midair. Mixing up shadow sneak and hydro pump can help you avoid most edgeguarding. With the right timing, you can use it to get midstage where people attack from. In midair it doesn't have the shadow indicator on the ground, so it can very suddenly end a match. It's also not bad as a repositioning tool, though the animations are a bit slow.
@ShinyMew763 жыл бұрын
Comment: I may be a bit biased here but I will say Mewtwo’s fair, and down b, as well as incineraroar’s down b Mewtwo’s fair is spam-able, has incredible KO power, and is a combo tool, has decent range, safe on shield. It can combo out of shadow ball, another great move, and it makes for good follow ups as well. Down B: it’s a fast move, it’s intangible for a few frames, it stuns, if you catch your opponent of guard (which will happen semi-frequently) your opponent basically gets KOed by down smash at 65 Incinaroar down b: it’s a fast counter, doesn’t have much lag for a counter, and if you build it up enough you get basically a free 70% from side b which can go through shields. I have a few other moves to mention as well G&W fair: it’s overshadowed by up b, dtilt, bair, and other moves. What’s funny is you can set up a fair into a side b and potentially get an instant KO off the 9 Mii Swordfighter Nair: this is seriously one of the best not projectile ledge trapping moves in the game in my opinion. You can spam it, it has decent range, lasts a long time, and often it covers quite a few options Mii Swordfighter Gale Stab: if you run shirakin of light, you can pick this move up. Incredible horizontal recovery, great burst option, decent damage, and it’s chargeable. Mii swordfighter burning blade: call gale strike op all you want but this is basically Mii swordfighter’s version of flashing Mach punch, it deals great damage, it can be turned around. It’s overall a solid move, don’t count it out Plant side b: it gets great praise already but here is the catch. You can grab someone while they are inside the fully charged cloud, you can pummel them and when the poison goes away you can throw them, deals massive damage. MK nair: it’s a strong KO option, combo tool sometimes, and it’s pretty fast. Overshadowed by up air and bair which are also great moves

I honestly think Ridley has a top 5 uptilt. It is extremely fast and low lag for what it does, being frame 8 and having 17 frames of endlag. It has a massive disjoint because of the lack of hurtboxes on most of his wings + Head/Wing intangibility for the whole move allowing it to beat plenty attacks generally only losing to the biggest of disjoints. On it's own it deals acceptable damage but it also combos into itself, aerials and jab on some characters, leading to excellent damage. It combos up to mid percents before becoming a kill confirm tool into Upair at around 90%. It can even kill at high enough percents (but at that point you could also kill with Upsmash which is only 4 frames slower and has leg intangibility). It's wide arch allows it to cover entire platforms, catch jumps, call out or beat landing options and even cover plenty of space at the ledge (It hits roll on the front hit). It has decently safety being -12 but the range can assist with making it a bit safer. It has it's weaknesses, being it can struggle with low profiling and it's activity being a bit low only having 4 total frames. It's such an underrated beast of a move.

Fox down air is kind of swag money as well. It’s a phenomenal combo starter and kill confirm, but it’s overshadowed by his other phenomenal aerials so it doesn’t really get too much recognition. The last aerial hit box is super safe on shields, it has a landing hit box that, while it’s not safe on shield leads to upsmash at a silly-large window at kill percent. The low launch angle is also great for tech chases and early kills off the side. The auto cancel window isn’t necessarily easy to get a hang of but once you do it’s a super threatening move that you can get away with spamming. Leads to a guaranteed 20-40% combo on almost any character and sets up for easy shield pokes and kills at high percent in any matchup.
