How about the SC22 key ?
@DeviantOllam
@DeviantOllam 3 жыл бұрын
to my knowledge, there is no SC22 key (although if Kaba followed convention it might be a 6-pin J blank) the known Schlage keys and key blanks are... L blank = SC19, SC20 H blank = SC15, SC21 J blank = SC24 C blank = SC1, SC4 E blank = SC8, SC9 F blank = SC7, SC10 ... with 5-pin listed first, then 6-pin listed second

Thanks again for more awesome content! In addition to Maison keying, composite keyway cylinders were often also used for multiplex masterkey systems where certain facilities needed areas to be accessed by keys from various buildings. Say you had a university with various buildings: the pharmaceutical building, the medical research building, and the immunology research building, each with systems that have their own keyway. For simplicity's sake, we will say that they use C, E, and F keyways respectively. Let's say professors must have access to one room: the printing room that may be found in one of either three buildings, and each building has common areas that are all keyed alike to one key. The composite keyway is a perfect solution for something like this, because instead of issuing yet another key that must be accounted for to every professor in each faculty, they can use their own respective common area key to access the printing room without the need of introducing more shearlines that could result in unintentional cross keying or other matematical problems. Furthermore, the use a multiplex systems allows for greater masterkeying flexibility, since the same space and depths can be used across all three buildings as each would have their own keyway. A Grand Master or Great Grand Master could then be implemented if needed to expand. Also beneficial, is the fact that if one building has a security breach where a certain room must be rekeyed, it is much easier to account for since instead of worrying about possible cross-keying across all three buildings, you can just look at the building's system in which the lock is installed, ensure that no cross-keying occurs, and proceed smoothly. As such, the multiplex system makes for increased flexibility.

As a locksmith, we still use them occasionally, but we always called them C-to-K cylinders (Schalge C keyway all the way up to L essentially). Another interesting fact with these, we had some apartment buildings that had very old Hollymade HO-1 keys which is now pretty much extinct, however these Schlage C-to-K cylinders would accept the HO-1 key as well, allowing us to continue servicing the entry doors to the apartment buildings without having to reissue 200+ keys.

As far as I know, Maison-keying (or its equivalent with the lock companies popular here) is in every single multi-tenant apartment here in Germany. Even relatively new ones. Or did he say Schlage "leek" because the missing keyways are shaped like onions and never took off.. Great video and the availibility of electronic entry locks would kill of the composite keyway market. The actual security of the electronic locks should be better than mezon keying, but doesn't play into it beyond the appearance of security and the ease and cost of adding or deleting new users. Having a minion go and add a new pin is cheaper that cutting and tracking keys. Or rekeying. Nice video, looking forward to the onion angle...

the picking arm seems to be the same, and that's the most important part. The picking arm on both my SC20 and my SC4 right here at my desk are 0.0285mm thick metal stock ... it would appear the factory is using the same exact material (probably the same exact part, honestly)

In 16 years as a locksmith, who even works on sites with large Schlage systems, I've never even SEEN a P keyway in the wild... There is one thing that's a bit confusing, there does appear to be a P blank, which I've also never seen, Schlage part number 35-101-P, but all I can find on it is that it's restricted. Do you know if it's a TRUE classic P that will fit perfectly into the P keyway, or just a restricted blank that uses the same terminology? I mean it doesn't make much sense to me to make a P key to ONLY fit the P keyway, when you can literally use ANY other "classic" line key.... BUT well all know manufacturers don't always do things that make sense, and sometimes, and this is just a theory, they do things JUST to mess with us...
