The Biggest New Changes In Persona 5 Royal

The new version of Atlus' celebrated RPG, Persona 5 Royal, is out now on PlayStation 4. It's not quite the same game you remember, however, as Royal includes a number of significant differences compared to the original release. This includes updated story and combat mechanics, and lots more.
In a new video, Jess covers over a dozen of the biggest new changes in Persona 5 Royal. Most obvious are the new characters and the additional semester that comes at the conclusion of the original game. The new characters are Kasumi and Marui, and there is a new location, too: Kichijoji. This region includes a lot of new stores, including shops where you can sell sooty clothing for money and points, and a dart and billiards parlor called Penguin Sniper.

Whatever the case, we can say that the time investment (Persona 5 Royal can be a 150-hour game) is absolutely worth it to see and experience all that's new.

Genuine question, how did you take 220 hours to finish this? I had hit level 99 on every character before I even hit the final palace, and by the end of the story I’d managed to platinum the game in a little less than 120 hours.

@@TigerBears11 too easy. Obviously I take my time with it. It's that sort of game. I build up my personas to exactly how I want them, so that takes time, and so alot of sacrificing goes on. I do alot of transforming of persona items and crafting cards. I max out allies, and max up tech and baton pass damage. I schedule activities etc. I've maxed out my money and some items. Actually I spent alot of time in the challenge room, so maybe that is why. anyway, I enjoy spending time in the game. I guess you don't need to spend as much time as I do. There's no problem with that, and you shouldn't worry about it

You grinded out the plot and story to get to the next set of gameplay events, thus adding a sense of stress and articulation to every action you take, and making them more important. Though I do think locking baton pass behind confidants is lame

I love mario odessy I love animal crossing I love breath of wild These 3 games are indisputable masterclasses in their respective genre's. Many many many people including myself would claim those 3 titles alone are among the best 3d platforming, casual, and open world game's on the market. It's also a intelligent shopping, because if you don't have too money, Persona 5 Royal its a long game. Better than buy short games in quarantine. this, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts 3, NieR Automata, Dragon Quest XI, Devil May Cry 5, Resident Evil 2 Remake. The PS4 has overtaken the top spot from the PS2 as my favourite console because of a hell of a nice game library. Strangely, the Switch is on number 2. I am very surpirsed how the end of this generation steamed this up. Hopefull, the PS5 will do the same. Can't wait to see what the future holds for us.

All those games can be played on pc with better graphics. If you have a pc, any of this gen consoles are irrelevant. Sadly there are not enough exclusives and some ps franchises have terrible sequels, like killzone shadowfall and infamous second son.

There was a one day sale at GameStop where Royal was $35. I had a digital copy of the original Persona 5, so I did what I had to do. I bought a physical copy of the original Persona 5 a day later. Yes I do make wise choices with my money... 😭. I’ll probably get Royal when it goes down in price. I would say the biggest change is that you have a lot more time to hang out with confidants and improve social skills. persona 5 had a lot of days that it just wouldn't let you do anything on and on many nights morganna would make you go to bed early. maxing out temperance is no longer mandatory as you can now do stuff in lablanc after a trip in the metaverse. speed reading becomes available much sooner, jobs have had their skill reqs removed and now give skill points, the movie book now works on dvds. money grinding is now a lot less tedious as jobs give much more money, the sun arcanna ranks up sooner now, dirty clothes can be sold, doom shadows drop items, mementos boost item and money drops billiards and darts will give you skill points and give all party members involved relationship points as well as boost baton pass and technical level. great for when you don't have enough points to rank up a confidant and you only need a point or two to hit next rank.

Disaster shadow are a pushover, until enemies without weaknesses become disasters. If they have a weakness they go down incredibly quickly. If you attack them with something other than their weakness then they will 2 tap your team regardless of if you get a one more or not. 2 taps on hard mode hurt

I don't know if I would say to people who haven't played Persona 5 to jump straight to Royal. On the one hand, yes, Royal makes a ton of really good quality of life improvements and additions, but Royal is an "alternative take" of the original Persona 5 story, not necessarily a replacement. The original game is still the canonical storyline (which will be necessary to play still since its actual sequel, Scramble, will probably come to the west soon), but I understand how Royal could still be seen as the better experience overall for veterans and new players alike. However, as I affirmed before, I don't think Royal should necessarily be seen as a replacement of the original game altogether. So for any newcomers, I'd recommend viewing Royal as a remix of the original experience with some added content and quality of life improvements, rather than an objectively better game that is a replacement of the original. But still, since both games are great, you can't go wrong no matter what game you start with first!

I wasn't attempting to confuse you whatsoever, I was just giving details. ...I thought I made it clear when I said an "alternative take" and "remix," but basically, there are slight changes to the story throughout the game, but it mainly stays the same aside from towards the end of the game, where some bigger stuff gets changes and there is more content with a new story added too after when the game normally ends. As I was trying to explain before, Royal isn't inherently objectively better than the original if you're looking to play the canon story and if you don't like the gameplay tweaks. Again, I wasn't trying to make things "deep" or confusing, I was just trying to be thorough. If you want to get Royal before playing the original, go for it, they're both great games, I was just explaining how if you ever plan to delve further into the series (like its sequel, Scramble) you should play the original game. Sorry for any confusion!

I own the original game but as much as I would love to get royal I don’t think I can justify 60 bucks for the same game with a little content added right at the end of the game. I already spent 100 hours on the original so I can’t see the incentive. I think I’ll get this on sale but tbh those of us that have the original game should get some sort of discount. You could add that new content into a dlc but I get they did change battle mechanics and stuff so I will let it go.

So....I just beat the game tonight first time. 131hrs was the total. I did not have Maruki or Akechi maxed and now found out why I didn't get the Royal Edition extra content (didn't want to spoil myself). I'm pretty pissed going to bed knowing I will have replay the entire game again just to experience the content hands on. Fantastic fucking game though.

It’s definitely worth playing through to get the additional content, the third semester is great and the palace is a bunch of fun. Plus it’ll be way quicker than you might expect to reach it, since if you go into New Game + things will be way easier and you can skip a majority of cutscenes and dialogue since there’s not really any point watching it all again.

The new gameplay will make the game feel like a new experience. all boss fights have been redone to better incorporate the targets vices into the mechanics of the fight. The story is different, most of the changes are late game but some early changes are that haru and makoto can be seen around shujin. You now have much more free time, extra activities and some activities like jobs now give better rewards which changes how you priorities your time. kasumi and ackech are rarely available so i recommend hanging out with them when they call you. i'm in early July and kasmumi has asked to hang out 3 times so far.

You DO NOT have to Max out Akechi just to get the new semester. Max the other two, but unless you're going for full 100% confidant you do not need to max Akechi for the new semester

No matter how improved it is, it should be like a £25/$30 upgrade option for people who already own the original game at least, and then also standalone full price for people that don't.
