Here are some All-Star players who have made a huge impact on the league, but were overlooked and drafted late!
Also, before you comment that Datsyuk and Zetterberg aren't in the video...I thought I'd make a video that had a few different players than the usual ones you hear about!
Thanks for watching!

Joe Pavelski, drafted 205th overall and has 429G-512A-941P in 1183 games and counting. Even though he's 38, he's putting up over a point per game so far this season, so he's not done yet.

Funny that you showed a clip with Pekka Rinne, but didn't mention him. Predators legend with a Vezina, the guy was drafted in the 8th round as 258th pick!

Patrick Roy, round 3 #51 overall. 551 wins and 3 Conn Smythe trophies. Brett Hull, round 6 #117 overall. 741 goals. Luc Robitaille, round 9 #171 overall. 668 goals.

All because Luc "couldn't skate". What a steal.

And the list goes on and on. Really I wouldn't put goalies in any late draft since they are often the ones that scouts have the hardest time to figure out. Often, most experts say not to pick a goalie in the first round since it takes longer for them to develop.

@Denis Beaubien yeah a lot of goalies seem to get drafted really late, some that weren't even mentioned in this vid.

@@marciimeris503 💀 Moose was a prick who couldn’t do shit without 5 other superstars on his side. Edmonton and New York are the case and point. In Edmonton he had Gretzky, Fuhr, Coffey, Kurri, And Lowe. He also had Lowe again in New York, along with Leetch, Richter, Zubov, Graves, Larmer and Kovalev. They all were in the midst of the best years of their entire career’s. Pavel and Henrik got to play with each other, a 40 something year old hasek, and an aging lidstrom when they won their Stanley cup. Lidstrom is the goat on defense, yeah, but that’s still a bit less help for something like that, messier was also chosen pretty early in the second round. So no, not that big of a steal.

@@Jesusluvz curious as to how people who can't read find the internet "based on the numbers alone" pretty sure that means looking at the stats alone but I guess we can consider teammates. I don't care that you're from that shithole of a city Detroit, or the joke of a country Sweden. Whichever it is, objectively you're wrong. Sad because I really like Datsyuk and think he was one of the best puck handlers ever. But since we're looking at beyond the numbers. Didn't Datsyuk run away from the nhl half way through his career? And while we're saying "oh but teammates" should we discredit Gretzky? As without his superstars he couldn't lead the kings to a cup?

Niklas Lidström was picked 53:rd overall, Luc Robitaille 171:th, Daniel Alfredsson 133:rd TWO YEARS LATE (so he was actually like a 500:th overall pick), Glen Andersson 45:th, Doug Gilmour 134:th.

Fedorov was drafted in the fourth round but I don't think anyone considered him 4th round talent at the time. He went in the 4th round because of the uncertainty in ever getting him to North America. To come to Detroit he had to defect to great risk to himself and his family. Hockey was the last great point of pride of a dying empire. It was the one battlefield that the soviets had the most confidence in. Their hockey players were more than just athletes. They were important pieces of propaganda. The soviets were not about to give up the young talent it developed easily. If he was born a few years later than he was he easily would of been a top 5 pick.

If we are going to use Messier's draft position (48th) as a benchmark for a steal and include 2 goalies, this would be my list 5. Federov 4. Roy 3. Messier 2. Hasek 1. Lidstrom

Detroit drafted Fedorov, Nicklas Lidstrom, and Vladimir Konstantinov all in the same year (1989). Vladdie was selected in the 11th round (221st overall) and would have been a HOFer if not for that damned limo accident.

It comes off a bit silly to talk about players drafted in the 3rd round that had good careers like Richards, but there are so many HOF players that should be mentioned before him. Bure, Robitaille, bondra, Alfredsson, Gilmour and so many goalies.
