I used to teach snowboarding to the Royal Navy and with the lads I would always say "Would you rather give or receive?" They'd quickly straighten up and stop bending over.

It’s so easy to pick up bad habits from fatigue and injury. The tommie b squat drill is one of the tops to stop those bad habits in its tracks. It’s in my warm up lap, both regular and switch. It’s a necessity for me riding switch. Thanx tommie!!!!

Hey bro I am so happy I found your channel. I just did Breck for the first time and watched your video and was able to identify so many issues with my stance and form. I have only ever ridden a wide board and have been self taught but I cant wait to get back out there and work on what I have watched. Hopefully I will catch you at Keystone or Breck sometime in the near future!

Hi Tommie! Love all your videos! I ride on the east coast and often have icy/hard pack conditions. One of my biggest struggles is slipping out, happens on both edges. The quick unexpected loss of control always throws me off my game! I'm sure body position has a lot to do with it, but could you make a video talking about this?? Thanks!!

The hunched over position is one I’ll use when I’m going through bumpy terrain quickly like moguls or some tracked out areas. It helps me absorb the vertical movement without catching air when I don’t want it. Otherwise, you’re right, I don’t use it.

Hey man, currently struggling a lot with the arched/hunched over back position... During my instructor course my trainers told me i had to straighten up my back while bending more with the knees. As a 6,4 ft guy though, its not as easy as they probably expect. Im of course trying to get deeper with my knees while keeping my upper body straight, but when i look at guys such as sebbe de buck or Bode Merrill, i get the impression that they arent that crouched down as well. Im just very confused as to how deep i should bend,, cause at the moment im trying to bend really hard, but im starting to notice pain in my heels as well as more instability while riding.. Any help on this would be sooooo much appreciated!! You´ve helped me so much already with all your videos so thanks man !!!!

its all about creating a neutral position on the board where your weight is centered over the board and then maintaining/modulating that weight distribution to adapt to changing conditions. That said here is some things that can help: 1. Stretching and mobility to open up your a. hamstrings, b. calves, and c. ankles. 2. Deadlifting/Squatting and core exercises to strengthen those areas, gain stability, gain comfort, and gain strength. I am 6'6 with a partially fused ankle so I get it.
@paulvoney9592
@paulvoney9592 Жыл бұрын
Alright thanks! Yeah Ive ridden with this posture over a long time so I guess it takes some time to fully get rid of this posture but it fucking sucks... At the moment I'm just figuring out how to get lower while trying to maintain a straight back. I just don't know if its actually needed to get this low, as it makes me tense up really bad and limit my mobility. Excactly the opposite of what's wanted out of it.
@skyscraper5910
@skyscraper5910 Жыл бұрын
@@paulvoney9592 when you ride, youre muscles are activated in that position. It shouldnt be "tight" feeling persay. You can practice an active vs inactive state on the group to feel out the differences. Squat down - read about proper squat form - then flex. Your core should be hard as well as your quads. when you squat up/down, your head should only move up and down, you shouldnt be leaning forward. you ahve look at a mirror to practice good form. True "tightness" would be felt when youre muscles arent long enough and is more of a pulling feeling. Stretching will allow your hamstrings and ankles to open up so you you can squat more comfortably and with more range, as you use knee articulation (bringing them closer/further away form your chest) to soak up terrian differences (such as chunder)

@paulvoney9592 Жыл бұрын
First of all, thanks so much for helping me out with this! Feels good to talk to another tall Snowboarder!! Yeah I guess what I mean with tight is, that I'm just very unused to the position and definitely need to build up some muscles there 😅 adding to that is the fact that I constantly need to think about wether I'm in the right position, which makes it very uncomfortable in a way that it stresses me out. It just sucks after snowboarding for such a long time to get back to such a fundamental thing. But thanks so much for helping me out. I guess I need to go work on my squats now 😂

Just a bit of constructive feedback. Firstly, your boarding is awesome, admire your skills. But without some commentary, it comes across as u just boarding and showing your talent. Depending on your skill level, much of what you do may go unnoticed by say beginners, or if you're not sure what your look at, which dilutes the point of teaching. Love your energy, and style of vid, but Wud like to hear more info as you ride, about what you are doing 👍

Tommie...copper or keystone for a 5 day trip end of February?
@Gary-np7hl
@Gary-np7hl Жыл бұрын
Copper > keystone…. But a 4 day epic is 379 vs a 4 day ikon for 519. Epic will get you into keystone and breck and ikon into copper and a-basin. With the epic savings you can swing 5 days with a day at a-basin a la carte for 500 altogether and you’ll be hitting up 3 of the 4 there in the area. Only drawback is no peace park with that plan, if you’re really big into terrain parks.
