Seeing you hormonal, no makeup, broken out skin, baggy t shirt is so refreshing. We never see beauty gurus like that, but it’s very human.

I totally feel you with knowing that something is wrong but having test results only come back as only somewhat abnormal. It’s so defeating, not just getting a clear answer. Just keep listening to your body and keep pushing for answers!! Hope things get better for you!!

I have PCOS and went on the pill to help with acne and other symptoms. I take the same pills and honestly the different it makes in my mood, acne, and PMS symptoms honestly makes it worth it I think. It took about 3 months for things to settle down, but I had the exact same symptoms...breakout, hot flashes, all the lovely things! I swear they go away its just your body adjusting to the hormones. Everyone is super different but yeah I 100% agree with everything you're saying. Sometimes you just need a little help with western medicine :)

Hope it helps you. I know for myself and many close friends had their PCOS get worse on BC. Mine went away once I got off BC. Haven't had one cyst since I got off of them. Most doctors use BC as a cure all when it infact causes a lot of these issues that its claimed to fix.

Birth control just suppresses everything. It probably makes figuring out your other health issues more difficult because it just masks symptoms. With that being said, I hope the bc helps you. Wish you all the best!

It's really crazy, I am experiencing nearly all of the same symptoms you do! I know that I have the Hashimoto syndrome but it is sooooo difficult to get an appointment at a doctor who specializes in Thyroid dysfunctions... -.- I feel like something is definitely wrong with me, but most tests that I have gone through did not show many results and I have reached a point where I am simply frustrated... I hope that your negative symptoms will subside and that you'll start feeling better soon! Lots of love ❤❤

I feel like I’m the only one who did better ON birth control. I was on it for about eight years (I’m 23 and went on it for bad cramps) and I never had any acne or weight issues before I went on the pill, but when I went off the pill I’ve had bad acne, horrible anxiety and OCD and mood swings. I know they say that it can take around six months for things to balance out but it is very frustrating and makes me want to go back on the pill...

Same for me. For me I was only 16 when my doctor prescribed me the pills, I had low acne, regular periods, no excess hair, no weight gain.I took them for 3 years. But then I stopped taking them like 7 months ago, and boom, horrible breakouts, excess hair, extreme hair fall, and the list goes on. I am actually decided to go back to taking pills, I really want to get rid of the symptoms, even of it’s for a while

I have been taking Spironolactone from my dermatologist for years and it helps so so soooo much with hormonal breakouts. I think actually it would help you in a lot of areas because it basically blocks the male hormones androgen. The combo of b/c and spironolactone, As someone who used to get cystic acne, I don't get ANY acne anymore!

I do also believe that I have PCOS, which I am lookin getting into getting tested. Do you think that could effect, the oral acne taking medication alone?

I don't have PCOS, but I was on Alysena for a while and it destroyed my skin as well. I had bad acne on my chin while I was on it (never struggled with acne before) and it never cleared up even after I stopped it. I stayed on it for around 8 months, and then went off and I have struggled with acne on my chin since. Everyone is different and I hope it clears up for you! I just wanted to say it happened while I was on that pill as well. Good luck! :-)

I’m on Lo Loestrin fe.its apparently the lowest dose of estrogen you can get on the market and I love it so far . Periods last 1-3 days and super light only enough for a liner . I will say that it does take 3 months for your body to adjust so I’d hang in there . All my breakouts stopped at month 2 and my mood swings! Hope this helps .

I have been watching your videos for years and have always loved how genuine you are. I stumbled upon this video of yours because I recently was diagnosed with Hashimotos and PCOS after months of tests and visits to the doctors office. I knew something was wrong with me and I didn't feel like myself but struggled with getting my doctor to even order tests for me. I completely agree with your frustration about your blood test results. You think that feeling so crappy and unlike yourself would yield more abnormal test results and they don't- which is beyond frustrating. For almost a year now I have just thought I was crazy and thinking too much into these symptoms because my test results were never very conclusive. Even though I was just diagnosed with PCOS and Hashimotos, I am just as confused and frustrated because now I have to worry about getting on the same page as my doctor with treatment and managing my symptoms. I know my comment is really late but I just wanted to say that I really appreciate how open you are with your journey because having resources like this makes me feel less alone when I am having a flare up or when I'm just struggling with my diagnosis in general. 💕

While birth control pills aren’t a fix, they help give you time to implement life style changes/diet changes or weight loss etc without your hormones working against you so that when you get off it your hormones are able to be more stavle

im sure you have read it all but i have always been told for my pcos not to take birth control and that its unfortunately (or fortunately) entirely diet and stress related. i was first told no dairy or gluten / keep it low carb, but i have done more research (reading through others research lol) and eating an anti inflammatory/ whole foods diet has been the most helpful for me. even things like canola oil can be bad for your pcos, which is in a lot of processed/packaged food. so just as low in processed food as possible and avoid things that spike your blood sugar, which cant be harmful in any way. i actually have also read that eating extremely nutrient dense things like liver (which is unappealing to me) can help a lot..i have yet to try that myself though haha. good luck with everything

Been following you for years and now learning you have PCOS made me feel kinda relieved in a way? Like maybe and hopefully since you have the audience and reach, this can bring the awareness needed to get more drs to study it and get better treatment plans and whatnot. I was diagnosed in 2017 and was immediately told I should definitely go on BC. Worst decision ever. I was nauseous every day to the point of throwing up everything in me and continuing to dry heave (even when trying to switch the times taken at). The GYN I was seeing tried switching brands about 3 times but I stayed constantly nauseated and gained so much weight :/ I quit BC overall and do get my period on time for the most part, but the cramps are legit killer. After watching this and also not getting shit for answers from my GYN, I’m taking this as my sign that I should go to a naturopathic dr because I do want to have control over my body!

just a side note: it seems to be very common when starting birth control that you have your period for long lengths of time. when my mom got on the pill, she had hers for like 2 months. i've heard the same from friends going on the shot. luckily, i didn't have that problem going on the shot, but i wouldn't really classify that as a reason to immediately stop taking it.

I relate to everything that you feel. I have a bleeding disorder, where I was bleeding for two months straight which was light, then heavy, but extremely heavy, and also consisted of large blood clots. However, I got put on birth control, to regulate my hormones, and the bleeding subsided after the fourth pill. However, I did have some spotting, and the spotting got a bit heavier but is still light and does not compare to the bleeding i was experiencing. I switched the time at which i take my birth control, by about four hours on one day, so im not exactly sure if that is what caused it or if its just the fact that my body is shedding the old uterine lining or if my body is generally just getting used to the different hormone levels. i took ab blood test, and My thyroid levels happened to be fine, but I think I will need another one to test for different hormonal levels. However, I cant wait till i am 100% healthy, along with my reproductive health.

Might be worth asking your doctor to come off the pill and supplement with bioidentical progesterone. It would help with ALL of your symptoms. 2 weeks on prior to a natural period then two weeks off as a healthy body would make it. When it comes to thyroid [Reverse T3] will show (poor cell absorption would be proven-how much you’re actually utilizing especially with antibodies present). Most Canadian doctors don’t do it but it’s crucial.

I recommend you get some counselling from the pharmacist when you pick up your meds!! A lot of people forget the amount of knowledge pharmacists have, as drug experts. If you have questions about your medications, interactions, side effects, etc, your regular pharmacist is able to provide so much more information regarding your medications (evidence based AND homeopathic/supplemental), not to mention, they do need to understand the medical condition a drug treats in order to counsel it. Granted, I am a pharmacist and am proud of the info I can provide so this is a really biased comment lol. Also, I think you may benefit from a complete body physical, including a full panel hematology (blood) test - this is where your doc checks off EVERY criteria to be examined (hormones, thyroid, ferritin, among other things), instead of getting multiple blood tests in different sittings! On a side note i really enjoyed watching this video, and i also love using Clue!

I'm not a doctor, so it's only a suggestion based on my personal experience. I don't suffer from PCOS, but a similar one, "ovaio micropolicistico", my gyno changed me the pill, because the levonogestrel is not good (it's androgenic, and we need an anti- androgenic one). I suffer from ipothyrodism too. Actually I am on yasminelle and skin and energy gets better. (please talk with your doctor). 🍀

I have hypothyroidism and make sure they test your t3 reverse (which I had to do privately in Canada) because t3 and t4 is not enough to see what’s really going on and how to treat it. And fast 12hrs before testing. I just tested for Hashimotos too last week and don’t have it. Also on blood tests in the future if you check and your b12 is still out of whack (high or low) it could be because your body doesn’t absorb it properly and you need a methylated version (very easy to find). I did a gene test and it told me that I have issues with that so switching that makes a difference :). I’m lucky because my doctor and naturopath work together especially since I don’t tolerate meds very well and I have a lot of health issues (including Lyme disease, Bartonella, Epstein Barr, endometriosis, Mast Cell Activation and more)

I have PCOS, Hashimoto’s, and vitiligo. My Hashimoto’s is worse in the winter; I feel more tired, sluggish, blah, skin and hair are super dry and nails are brittle. In the summer, my thyroid is more active and it’s easier for me to lose weight and my hair, skin, and nails look great. Also, because of the humidity and sunlight. Are your Vitamin D levels in a good range? I was put on 50,000 mg for a month it was so low in the winter, I live in the Northeast. When I was first diagnosed with Hashimoto’s my antibodies, I forgot which, were in the 485s, my thyroid is very goitered now. See if you could get a thyroid ultrasound too, if you haven’t gotten one yet. I hope you get the answers you need and feel better soon. Sending love to you.

This might sound strange, but do you take higher amounts of vitamin e? Or any specific vitamins? I went through a period where I was talking lots for my skin and it lead to all of the same symptoms you’re having and it’s possible for your body to accumulate certain toxic levels of vitamins and supplements over time. My nausea and energy levels got pretty bad from it. It was almost like I overdosed on it and then had to withdraw from it. Something to look into. 🤔🙂

Hi Melissa, I hope you don't mind me asking (and, I'm not trying to diagnose!), but have you had a thyroid ultrasound? Has a physician felt your neck for inflammation/goiter? I know you're trying to get into Endocrinology, but was just wondering. I have had Hashimoto's for 20 years. Much love and healing to you. I know it's frustrating to keep pressing on through the diagnosis journey. Push for a thyroid ultrasound.

I was diagnosed with Pcos 2 years ago and personally, i stopped birth control pills because it was making me gain weight like crazy and I also have type 1 diabetes and PCOS just kept throwing me off balance. I haven't gotten my levels checked out recently but I know that exercised help me and keeping a healthy diet also helps. In conclusion, you don't have to take the pills cause they honestly do suck.

I know this was posted a year ago but i was diagnosed at 16 and i am now 18 and about to start my first bc pill today. i always do my research and i found many things talking about the link between bc and its negative effects on muscle growth. I have a workout routine and im very serious about my gains😭 i was just wondering if it has had any effects on your muscle growth, made it harder or take longer to see results?

Hello, I'm a 17-year-old high school student living in Japan. There are not many people taking pills in Japan. They are expensive and have a strong image of contraception.I have been worrying about acne and menstrual pain for five years.I want to use a pill to heal myself, but it is difficult to tell my parents. How do you think...?

Is your DHEAS high? I’ve had bad hormonal acne for 10 years and a dermatologist finally decided to test my hormones and turns out mine is extremely high. He said it might be polycystic ovarian syndrome but my period has always been regular

I have been on the pill for 5 years due to incredibly bad PMS and cramps. My experience has overall been great and I feel better on the pill! everyones experience is different. Blood clots are rare and only really a concern if you smoke or your over 35, so just keep that in mind. I have thought about going off of it b/c of the hormones, but i remember how horrible I felt before I was on the pill!

Currently going through a long process of getting answers to my long periods/ no periods. Getting a pelvic ultrasound in April and I have a phone consult with a gynaecologist in June :/ but I was given a sample of YAZ so I’m hoping that helps with my current 3 months period

@@Mstar200 unfortunately it wasn’t good. The 3rd day up until 2 days after I got off it after the month sample I took I had insane cramps that felt like what I imagine contractions would feel like during birth. I went on the pill three years ago due to PCOS. I had quite some acne before and once on the pill the acne stayed on my chin (the rest was gone), and I had new zits every day, there was not one day I was "acne" free. Two weeks ago I decided to stop all together and I have lost weight and my zits are gone and I haven't gotten new once.. Now waiting for my period to back and how painful it is going to be...

Esther van Oene try l-lysine for hormonal acne. I had the exact same issue. New zits all the time some that were huge and hurt as well! I started taking just one l-lysine pill a day I bought from my Whole Foods store and within a week it cleared up. First period since starting to take it for about a month and I didn’t even breakout before my period! It honestly works wonders for hormone chin acne

The best time i take the pill is right after dinner, or during the dinner, i swallow the pill with food, and then I go to sleep, is the best time, I'm using the patch for a month and my breast is getting bigger and tender, i workout lifting weights and sometimes during the workout i get moody, sometimes i can't eat because i feel nauseated, it's crazy, is a mess, i never know how I feel and why, if is because of the workout if is because my diet, or because of the patch, sometimes I'm hungry but when I start to eat I lose my apetite i feel full, sometimes i get cold, sometimes i get hot, I'm considering to give up, i have a lot of energy, it increased my sex drive, (libido) , i workout after I walk , i dance, and then I can't stop moving, I'm sleeping so good, the only good things i can say

Have you ever been tested for Lyme disease? I was really sick years ago and they kept thinking it was some sort of auto immune disease, but it ended up being lyme. It can make you very tired and weak feeling. If you do get tested ask you naturopath to send your blood work to the states to a lab that specializes in lyme, the test we use in Canada is very inaccurate

1Jennamo didn’t say we can’t test for it in Canada however, there is better testing done in the US.
