@@cool_bug_facts You also can't control the real aging process, and it can take hundreds of years for some paper to show age. Brittleness also is never a desireable trait for paper. The only thing that can be done beyond mimicking aged paper is to farm it from old books, as most books will contain at least a few blank sheets at the front and back. We often save this paper from unsalvageable books to use as materials for repairs to other books. If a page is missing a piece, we'll go into our drawer of old paper, find a sheet of similar color and texture, and then take a piece from it to fill the hole. If it's a good match I can often make it appear as though no paper were ever missing to begin with.

Watching the editors and historians get it wrong remind me of the time my father was a vice president at Holt Rinehart and Winston and he was their chief editor, so he allowed the placement of a map of North America that supposedly was from Leif Ericson and he put it into the American History textbook which at the time was the most commonly used edition in the country. The map came from Yale University and he thought it would be a great idea to start the book with the map. 4 months later after they had printed the book, it turned out the map was a forgery, using a felt tipped marker for the map. But it made it into the book and has been there reprinted over and over since the late 1960s. The map has created a whole field of education, may professors have been hired and rehired in educational institutions worldwide on the subject and it all comes down to a forgery.

This is a great summary of this crazy story. The book "Selling Hitler" by Richard Harris and the ITV film of it Qxir mentions in the description are actually pretty good, Jonathan Price plays Heidemann and Alexei Sayle Kujau. The discredited historian David Irving is played by Roger Lloyd-Pack (Trigger), Irving's presence is unfortunate in hindsight but he did doubt the dairies from the start.

Imagine having inherited Hitler's own WWI spiked helmet as an heirloom, only to find out it was sold to your granddaddy by THIS guy. Yeesh. Put an awful stain on my day for sure. Disclaimer: I'm a military collector, not a Nazi, in the collecting world, items from famous military personalities and items marked with Swastikas are more collected as trophies to say "Yeah we kicked Nazi ass!" Rather than to display allegiance. It is preserving the victory and bragging about it, not hoarding items from idols... If a Nazi is your idol, I'd recommend you not talk to me, like ever.

There is a lot of demand for this stuff by neonazis though
@JohnSmith-xv2ob2 жыл бұрын
@@sabotabby3372 Sure is, but... how does that factor into anything? You saying I shouldn't be allowed to own anything from the war because a neonazi might buy it? Here is a little secret. If the news calls someone a neo nazi, there is about a 50% chance that they actually are not. Well, more like a 70% chance, but I'm being generous here. The problem is not nearly as widespread as media might make you believe.

Fun fact, Hitlers private photo albums ended up in Wyoming U.S. A member of the 101 st Airborne was one of the first people to take "The eagles nest" which was Hitler private home. He was questioned extensively but never admitted he swiped it and sent it home🇺🇲
