I would hope that I'm not the only adult with whom The Backyardigans resonated. Although I'm quite use to being out in left field as a fan of children shows to this day. When it came on, I was 24 or 25. But it had something special which the best Nick Jr shows have that reminded me very much of the shows I watched as a child. I find it interesting to have a little look into the birth of the show with the knowledge of it's live action genesis. The clip does rather ring of the same odd discomfort I get from many of the old Kroft characters, so I'm quite glad they went a different direction. Living very very near Universal when it opened, I use to think it kind of unreal actually that Nick was filming actual programs in the park. Particularly as I spent most of October cursing the park for all the screaming and such and yet I was watch the episodes of Double Dare, that was filmed there. Also I like that you went at this not just because of the mystery but because what the show became means something to you.

Ah I remember this, despite how obscure this piece of lost media is. At one point it was up online for purchase in as part of a Nicolodeon compilation dvd on Geocities.com It contained deleted scenes of cartoons, crew interivews, glimpses at storyboards and alot more. It was about 4 hours along at least. The guy who sold the dvd on his website (Jason Groves) claimed he compiled all the media from a 80gb hard drive from a work pc that was getting gutted from the Nick studio as part of renovations. From what I could tell only a very few copies got sent into market before discontinuing it. Scared Nicolodeon will threaten him with legal action. Hopefully someone can come forward with a copy with the full pilot on it. Just be careful as you don't want lawyers from Nick on your case. Hope this information helps - Isaac

The whole show seemed eerie to me as a kid, but maybe that's just because the five main characters were also literally the only characters in the entire show, so the different locations always seemed empty. But it will always be one of my favorite Nickelodeon shows
