Raymond Anderson You cannot go anywhere in Canada without seeing a Scottish Regiment. Every city and town has one, and Nova Scotia is basically a little version of Scotland. Yes, I believe Canada has more ties Scotland then any other place in the world (sorry england, but if we didn’t we wouldn’t have regional tartans).

I am an American, born and raised, but I have Scottish ancestry and this video is wonderful! As a child, whenever there was a parade at an event or fair with Scottish pipes and drums, I'd run toward it and follow them, and my parents would find me later with tears streaming down my face. They couldn't understand it and neither could I at the time, but it was, and is, a feeling in my heart of being Scottish.

I'm from the U.S. Tennessee specifically. There's nothing like this here. I get excited as hell, when I hear pipes and drums. I lose control, a few years back, there was one lone piper at the Christmas parade, I followed the man for half a mile, my wife had to make me come back. I have watched this parade countless times. I love it.

I've lived in England for more years than I care to admit to. England's culture consists of hating anyone that's not english, Morris dancing & drinking copious amounts of Stella in an attempt to justify beating up their wife. Scotlands regiments have been decimated by the english government but the minute they jump into another illegal war they'll start up the usual recruitment drive for the obligatory scots cannon fodder. Fuck the British Army and Fuck the Union!!!

I love bagpipes and drums. They always make me cry, especially Scotland the Brave...I grew up in the Texas Hill Country, the daughter of a strong McGregor woman...since we had no neighbors, we could play music as loud as we wanted. She had so many CD's of Scottish marches, drums and pipes, so she would put them on full blast and wake us up with that every weekend, usually with some kind of amazing breakfast...bacon, fried eggs sunny side up, piping hot biscuits fresh out of the oven in a cast-iron pan, honey butter, Texas peach preserves from our own peach tree, orange juice...then we'd go work in the garden and pull weeds, go swimming, cut firewood for the winter, take care of the horses and help dad fix various things...and while all of that was going on, bagpipes were playing in the background until about noon...but then she'd switch it to Cher, Phil Collins, or whatever rock n roll she felt like listening to. Those were the days... :)

I'm a Scot but do not like people who twist history from their ignorance.and over exuberant patriotic fervour.. The Romans did invade Scotland called then Caledonia. But had not more interest in it than Wales, or Cornwall. The Romans liked rich febrile land - warmer the better. Even today, the land is sparsely populated the farther you get from the lowlands. As for the people today in these islands, we are a very mixed breed - Vikings, Danes Angles French Italian, and you name it. Even the language we speak is a mix. The Black Watch regiment was originally created from England (George 2nd) to police the highlands following the Jacobite rebellion. They were no friends of the Highlanders in general, outside their own clans The whole current 'Highland Dress' stems from the regimental military dress of the British Army which developed as Britain moved ahead from the Industrial revolution and expanding its empire.. Without our nation being united, and left bickering among ourselves as the Industrial Revolution built, and developed elsewhere, and no Empire, we would have remained as insignificant as we appear on the world map. And that is where we will finish up if some here can't see further than their nose.

Sorry, I just have say something here. I'm from the U.S. I love the Pipes and Drums of the Black Watch. And just think about it, the Black Watch has been one of the most feared military units for hundreds of years. Put yourself in the mind of the enemy back then. Watching these cats coming at you in those uniforms with the Pipes and Drums in full song? To say it would have been unnerving would be an understatement. Knowing you were about to engage the best in the world and they were announcing their arrival on the field and coming straight at you is not a place where I think I'd have wanted to be.

That's why the Black Watch is allowed to wear a red hackle on all headgear, as a statement of their bravery and battle prowess. Look at it this way, if you can wear red in combat these days, you've reached a level of badass rarely seen.

They were having the traditional graduation ceremony on the Friday morning, however because there were only 160 of us they said there would be no band. It made our day and now almost 50 yrs later it still brings tears to my eyes.

G. Geurtsen:-- "Stuart" is the French spelling for the Scots/English "Stewart". Hello:)) As far as the Bagpipes go, , they are know from the Celts/Gaelic .which Scots & Irish are part of, but when as a Student , besides being Medical , I had an interest in History & Music & a few yrs. ago, I was told that the Bagpipes had originated sometime back in the days of the Romans & it was the Romans who brought them to Britian , Centuries ago, when Rome thought she could conquer the World & headed to Britannia..Someone also mentioned that the Bagpipes , had originated in early Egyptian times & had developed over eons .. Who Knows the real truth of their origins but , even today they have a distinct sound & bring it to all of us !! I was brought to Honour the Bagpipes no matter who they were played by, as they Represent Honour to All that have Served & still like so many of us That Continue to Serve.
