DCAU Tim is just Jason by another name, and that probably explains my soft spot for him, despite Tim being my favourite. It's weird coming back to this show as I got older and realised that this Tim is not like comic Tim. The one thing he definitely gets from his comic counterpart is how he brings Dick and Bruce back together through his sheer perseverance. The thing that always gets overlooked or misunderstood is that despite Dick being the character everyone loves and respects, Tim is the heart of the Bat kids even though he's more known for being the brains.

While the DCAU Tim Drake didn't figure out Batman's identity like in the comics, it was revealed in the Lost Years tie in comics that he was a massive fan of Batman and Robin beforehand like the comic book Tim Drake. The way he got the batarang he had in "Sins of the Father" was during the fight with Joker in the flashback from "Old Wounds".
@Bahtmahn27Ай бұрын
I’ve always liked Tim Drake being a stand in for the audience in the comics. As a 13 year old Batman obsessed fan reading Lonely Place of Dying for the first time, I could picture myself in his position, a Batman fan getting to work with Batman himself. He also oftentimes gets to be the voice of reason, telling Bruce exactly what we the readers want to say to him. It’s a clever concept for a character.

I liked the way TNBA did Tim Drake as a perfect combination of Tim and Jason. Jason’s more down-to-earth affecting origin (street kid with a thug parent) but combine it with Tim idolizing Batman and Robin and wanting to be just like them. I like that Tim had a lot of depth to him I feel like Batman Beyond should have featured him more after RotJ. I didn’t like that it almost felt like the writers just used him to be a vessel to bring the Joker back rather than work his presence into the future more. Hell, he wasn't even a natural brunette, he dyed his hair black to imitate Dick. But people thought he was boring and Denny O'Neil really liked Jason, so they kept him and made him edgy and violent to make him different from Dick. Like Damian, the fans didn't like that very much and DC took note of that, and when Jason got blown tf up, there was a vote on whether or not he should live. Voters called across the nation to decide his fate, and he died. Contrary to popular belief, Jason wasn't liked much until he was resurrected as Red Hood. Sooooo... My problem with Tim's arc in the DCAU, is the same problem I have with Dick's and Babs': their miserable endings aren't done in service of their own characters, but in service of Bruce's. I know the series is called 'Batman', but I think legacy characters deserve a bit better than that. I'll always stand by that sentiment.
