@aquaman12187

@@acarrillo5180 Plenty of research on stainless steel and human bio-compatibility. Depends where the steel plate and screws were placed in the leg and how much tissue/nerve contact the implants have. In general, most stainless steel implants should be made with medical grade alloys (which should be safe)... but manufacturing defects do happen. You should have periodic check ups with your doctor and physical therapists should you feel anything is off with your implants.

The last messages of this program are really important. New is not always the best and ask your doctor how many times have theyve done a procedure. Take in mind tha sometimes they haven’t done that much but they will be supervised by someone with more experience and that’s always good ( no one is born having done thousands of procedures at once). As a doctor also I always remember something a senior told to me once “ Don’t ever be the last one doing a revolutionary procedure, but neither be among the first ones “

I hire a private nurse to watch over me pro and post op. It’s like landing and take off with planes: the most dangerous time is who touches you and what do they inject you with while you’re knocked out! Dirty hands leading to sepsis (doctors and nurses) and getting the wrong injectables (saline instead of glucose or vice versa) kills tens of thousands each year. Simple, avoidable error which they casually sweep under the rug! It cost me $800! Worth every penny

Someone very close to me had partial knee replacements a few years ago. The past few years I’ve noticed gradual differences in her such as unpredictable mood swings, aggression, speech problems, memory problems, etc. sometimes I don’t even recognize her and it’s very unsettling. I learned recently that her implants contain cobalt. I’ve urged her to find a way to get tested for cobalt poisoning because of this movie

I don't know much about the medical device industry, but curiously similar laws regulate (there's a joke) dietary supplements. The only safety requirement is that the manufacturer of the dietary supplement assures the FDA that it's safe. That's it. If someone is already selling it, if it has ever sold it, or if it exists even in trace amounts in the food supply, even dangerous anabolic steroids, all the FDA needs is their assurance. That sounds a lot like the "substantially similar" standard for devices. And the FDA is responsible for policing these laws, but Congress never funds them for that role. They have to wait for a sufficient number of injuries or fatalities to be voluntarily reported to them before they can act, and they can only do that rarely. But NONE of this is the FDA's fault. These rules come from Congress, not the FDA. The supplement rule I'm familiar with is the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994. The device regulations had to have come from a very similar act of Congress. The FDA has no authority to create these regulations.

Finally came around to watching this despite some fear and I highly recommend but be prepared for shock after shock. As a screwed over patient in a rare way, or so they say, it still had my jaw dropping even after all I've researched, seen and been through for over a decade... I guess it just breaks my heart to see such cruelty and the persistence of it after the fact. I knew the FDA had issues but this is just straight up horrific. Not to mention the blind ignorance including doctors/surgeons; refusing to see the evidence in front of them. This is freaking insane and will probably be one of the most important things you watch and should share. You think this sort of thing is bad? This isn't just it, we are screwed over in so many ways and unfortunately most people have no idea or believe it. Who would want to? I felt the cognitive dissonance years ago in the beginning myself. The corruption runs deep and darkly so.

Most people don't realize the danger of allowing the current medical system to continue as is. If they would only stop to consider when they or someone they love is in need of medical care or to improve their health, the only option available is the current medical establishment with such a horrific track record. That's when they'll stop everything they're doing to find the best care which will be run by the same people who've destroyed so many lives. It's strange that human beings wait for the worst case scenario to then care about something.

I was crying and horrified as Essure was a product recommended to me and I thank my Mom for trusting her gut instinct and suggesting we look more into and my utter loyalty to just sticking with pills which had also caused me complications but that is whole different story. This makes me skeptical of anything my doctor wants to push on me and confirm that everyone needs to look into and research everything about the products or devices suggested to you as well as who is paying each individual doctor. These are not things that we should have to worry about as we supposedly have agencies and people supposedly looking out for us and clearly they are not. I cried for these men and women in pain and suffering and also cried at the real level of hopelessness that I felt in feeling like who can we trust? Who is looking out for us? Some doctors trust these high agencies to do their part so they can provide the best care they can while others are simply bought off.

I've been saying this for ages and it's only getting worse... These morons can't even run a sustainable economy correctly let alone care for us properly. Insurance would randomly cut off paying my pain meds especially without warning and against my doctor's advice which I can't afford physically, plus they will refuse to pay for better less harmful medications, often underminding my compassionate doctors. Recently Medicaid randomly dropped me as well; doing things such as this has led to suicide, people die from highly addictive heroin overdose on the streets and instead harm patients who truly are in pain (often because of ignorant careless doctors or simple accidents that can't be helped) and do the best with what they're given. Either history has taught them nothing or they don't care, in denial, etc. It could be so much better and believe me, I want to be independent. I am extremely lucky to have support from my inner family, mostly anyway, or I'd be in worse shape. Those who aren't sick often rarely tend to get 'it' and can't believe this would ever happen to our country, but we aren't as great as we think we are. You wouldn't believe what they've slipped into bills that have passed screwing the people over. Money is more important than life, war included. I've only been truly disabled after one unnecessary surgery was done on me, but they didn't understand or really care to understand what they were doing or what was going on and back then we trusted doctors easily; it's as if we're brought up in this world to never question authority. If you do you're a nutcase or, "Oh that can't be!" What they did to me, including misdiagnosing me for years that it was mostly in my head while I suffered until they couldn't ignore the obvious anymore, triggered a horrific chain reaction. Just as I was starting to get back uphill after having the true main surgery needed all this time (this only because I did the research myself, asked to be tested and called them out on their false negative testing twice for they didn't know how to perform the scans appropriately), by some miracle they found an object in my heart that nearly killed me from a past venogram due to neglect during the procedure. Fortunately, I found an Angel, literally that was his name as it is mine, and he decided to do an echo on me for the first time in years and he was instantly concerned. The closest idiot heart surgeon I could find ended up being the most arrogance POS I've ever met, he claimed that the object in my heart, which he didn't know what it was but knew was bigger than a pacemaker, was as safe to stay in (my right atrium) as a pace maker and that my palpitations had nothing to do with it unlikely, when it did in the end. I was so used to being told to ignore symptoms that I didn't really say much about them until this. Thought I was too damaged and much couldn't be done but a lot more can be than you'd think. Your Fibromyalgia/IBS/POTS/Chronic Fatigue/Whatever blanket syndrome they throw over one may well have an underlying disorder that can be treated or cured instead of a doctor shrugging and throwing only pills at you. When I said my cardiologist was concerned to the first heart surgeon's opinion he said, "No offense but he's never held an actual human heart..." Then he became overly dramatic and underneath I saw that he was nervous. I knew the moment he walked in after leaving us waiting in the room for over an hour while he had a little "meeting" over my echos that he had no intention of helping me in fear that it was the same hospital that caused the problem... well, problems actually. I went to a more experienced doctor in a bigger city very soon after that and he was able to remove it just in time. I wish I had known about the venogram thing though, I only got to see the doc that did it the first time for only minutes at a time or less and the one that made the main mistake wasn't even someone I had met with before but they assured me it was fine. I actually felt something after the procedure but because my heart rate wasn't "that bad" (it sure wasn't normal though), they weren't worried, or they knew and tried to hide it. They basically ran an assembly line of patients going in and out quickly so they were pushing me out the door when I nearly could've died right then and there. Yet I was desperate too and left it up to the doctors to perform the procedure appropriately. Silly me, I just wanted to walk without pain again, never thought it would make me worse and I was pretty well educated I thought. Even my own pain management doctor said he's learned more from me than teaching! That's a scary thought. I was still healing from my last open surgery and struggling with vascular problems from all the neglect from before and now I had to go back and have another big surgery which ended up being one of the most painful experiences of my life the moment I woke up, not understanding I was also dealing with severe nerve/vascular pain on top of a very high tolerance to medications. While the open heart saved my life it sadly caused other issues, worsening complexities that doctors rarely ever care about. I went from a very active exercise obsessed teen athlete to being mostly bedridden for over a decade. I'm trying hard and being persistent to get back to health though, all I want to do is be helpful to society and gain back my independence. Actually afraid to watch this, the trailer alone made me cry. It took me being permanently scarred and years of suffering of which I still am to be taken seriously. Now, despite traveling being hard on me I have to, I need to go to a more appropriate even larger hospital than the one that did my last surgery and they were pretty big. I refuse to go through another few more years of this... And had they only listened to me the first time my simple symptoms of a high heartrate and stomach issues could have been solved. I only say simple because while they may not have felt so then, they were nothing compared to what I go through today.

@@romycullen17 I am actually going to be getting a hip replacement in April now. I have hip dysplasia and is pretty severe and so is the arthritis in that hip. So I have no choice and I absolutely must get a hip replacement now. Would I'm going to be doing is making sure that the acetabulum cup is going to be ceramic and the funeral neck and head is going to be titanium. The best thing that you can do is make sure you don't have any cold boat or chromium and it's all titanium. At this point that's all we have is the ability to tell them what we want in our body and what we don't want in our body. That's why we must educate ourselves the best that we can and I think this documentary did a wonderful job helping to educate people and spreading the word of these issues that happen when your doctor makes the wrong call for you. My doctor is amazing he knows a lot about ehlers danlos syndrome and he also knows about fibromyalgia dysautonomia and hip dysplasia. I have all of those issues and he right now is my best hope and I look forward to seeing him and getting the hip replacement done by him because it took me a long time to go through a long list of doctors 5 years ago to find the best and I feel like I am very confident in who I found for me.

Amanda, I have some hypermobility type of issue too. I never got to a geneticist to get a formal diagnosis, because I was crippled and broke by the time someone first asked if anyone had told me I was EDS-like. I had CHD probably because of the laxity of the connective tissue, and like a totally gullible fool, I got two J&J hips at age 39. Life ruining. I'm 49 now. It's been a decade of hell, disability, job loss, financial ruin, etc. etc. Please don't get any implant. EDSers especially seem to have a lot of trouble with implants. Our bodies are more reactive than most, and a lot of EDS people are allergic to nickel, a metal used in a lot of implanted devices. You can have no idea you're allergic to nickel, but if it's implanted in you, it will ruin you. Just get in a pool and keep your muscles as strong as possible. Can you get revision surgeries to get the metal to which you're allergic replaced? I had bilateral THR revision and it stopped a lot of my symptoms.

@@FrancesScottFurryandFree I have been to the mayo clinic, they advised me not to get the revision surgery that I good very well end up with the same result. I have tried every procedure some extremely painful to try to remedy the symptoms. I try not to feel sorry for myself, I know there is a lot of people that have serious medical problems also, but some day's are harder than other's. Thank you for your concern.

@@larryjoe1357 Also there is a blood test that will tell you exactly which metal you are allergic to. It's done by Orthopedic Analysis, which is in Chicago, IL. Your family doctor can order it for you, and then you go to a local lab to get your blood drawn. The lab then sends your blood back to Orthopedic Analysis and the results are sent to your doctor. If you're ONLY allergic to nickel, for example (one of the metals used in the cobalt-chromium alloy used to make a lot of hips and knees), you can get a new hip that contains no nickel. Those do exist. I have two of them. If your knee is cobalt-chromium (which contains nickel), your orthopedic surgeon should know which TKR products are made of a different material. A bigger problem is if your femoral stem product (part of your hip replacement device system) is cobalt-chromium. That revision is a much more difficult revision surgery, because they have to get that old stem out of your femur... and that's not easy. They'd risk breaking your femur, and many won't even try to do it. Depending upon your age and health, I'm not sure if I'd risk the surgery to revise that femoral stem, if it's cobalt-chromium, but if it's just the ball and socket liner that are cobalt-chromium, that revision surgery was OK for me. Not fun, but not awful.

Sadly these industries have rigged the legal game too. Ever since the decade that brought us the Erin Brockovich story and the McDonald's hot coffee trial/verdict, giant corporations have rigged the system. Harmed patients are no longer put into "class action" lawsuits like they were prior to the "tort reform" we heard so much about in the 90s. They got tort reform passed in most states, so basically what it boils down to is... if you're hurt by a medical product, you will be sent into legal purgatory for the next decade. You'll never get your day in court. They stall. They delay. You sit and wait for bellwether (test) cases to go to trial. Each trial takes at least a year... maybe two. Then after a decade of this, the company claims it's offering a settlement. In the case of the Johnson & Johnson PInnacle hip, J&J SAID it was offering the 11,000 harmed plaintiffs $1B. The truth is each offer came in at about $160K, but it came with paperwork that said the plaintiff, if she took the deal, would swear/promise to make whole ("Indemnify") all parties who had said this device had harmed them (i.e., all the patients insurance companies, Medicare/Medicaid, the VA, etc.). What that meant to you, if you'd had your life absolutely wrecked by the Pinnacle hip more than 10-12 years earlier is that your attorneys would get the first $70K of that $160K "offer," leaving you with $90K, which is nowhere near enough for a patient to pay back $250-500K, which is what the insurance companies say they paid because of this "defective device." Now tell me how you can somehow use $90K to pay back someone the $250K they say you owe them? You can't. It's all a trick. It's a scam. Some poor plaintiffs took the offer, understanding J&J has the money to delay and delay forever, and when the dust settled, the plaintiffs found out that they actually OWED money... because their settlement amount, after attorneys had been paid their 30-40% ($70K), was not enough to cover the amount that their insurance companies were saying they were owed. There truly is zero justice in the US anymore. Tort reform took away the last modicum of justice we ever had. And all the "big verdicts" you read about still in the news? 85-90% of the verdicts that go in favor of the patients/plaintiffs are flipped by the appeals court judges, meaning nothing for anyone except the lawyers and the corporations. Please be careful in this day and age. It's a very dark time for "healthcare." xo.

Instead of class action, everyone now is shoved into what's called an MDL, Multi-District Litigation. It's a scam. It leaves the harmed patients, hurting, disabled, miserable and/or dead, while the companies drag out the bellwether cases for a decade or more.

Sorry to say some doctors are part of the problem. Here in Canada, they are under NO obligation to report adverse effects of drugs or devices to the company, thereby skewing any aggregate safety studies on those drugs/devices. We had a documentary on Essure, and one doctor all but excused himself from any liability, even after he had multiple women report problems. Doctors need to be reminded that they too need to practice ethics. "FIRST, DO NO HARM."
