I"m a white guy and I say this as sincerely as I can. I've been to a black pentecostal church before and this demonstration is freaking spot-on as to what it was like. I don't care if you are religious or not, every single white person needs to experience BLACK PRAISE at least once in their life. I'll never forget it.

"Have you seeeen the light?" "Yes! Yes! Jesus H. Tap-dancing Christ! I have seeeen THE LIGHT!!!" I went to a very conservative religious boarding school when I was a kid. We had Church services everyday and three on a Sunday! We were allowed to bring in one VHS movie once a month and everyone had to sit down and watch it. When it was my turn I brought in this movie. It was the clean version (taped off the tv) with all the 'mf's' edited out. Once it started the teacher on duty clearly had a problem with it being appropriate for 8 - 13 year old boys, but couldn't really speak up because the film was about saving an orphanage run by a Nun and was about two men on 'a mission from God'.😂 Some of those kids were so excited by the end car chase that they were screaming and shouting and some were even riding their chairs with excitement as they cheered on Jake and Elwood. There was almost a riot! I like to think I broadened a few minds that day and planted a few seeds. An anti-authority classic. Still my all time favorite movie.

I was in Ghana for Christmas 20 years ago. There was no tree or gifts exchanged but you spent the day in church rejoicing then gathered for a feast. I met over 200 relatives at that dinner. The love and joy expressed at our visit was extraordinary and the church service was amazing, rejoicing and singing to the lord on the day of his birth. My mother left Ghana in the 50's, it has become the only country so far in Africa that welcomes the descendents of slaves... no visa required. In three years you can become a citizen. Opportunity abounds and I couldn't be prouder.

Still have the contemporaneous memory of _this_ scene seeing it for the first time in July 1980. Halfway, or so, through the movie a thunderstorm erupted and while rain pelted the roof and the theater shook from thunderclaps The Blues Brothers played on. My wife and I were beginning our summer vacation. After the movie was over we left the cool theater and the blast of heat and humidity outside was a tangible 'thing'.

I don't think you could assemble this much musical talent in one Movie today without egos getting in the way. The s Artist were down to Earth people, the King and Queen of Soul in the same Movie. It doesn't get any better.

I just sent this to my drummer, who has not graced our band with his skills in some time. But last night we got the band back together for a little bit, and it was almost a religious experience. Thanks, Jeremy, love ya bro!

Why doesn't this scene appear in the usual generic lists of the greatest movie musical dance sequences in history ! It belongs right up there! In fact the whole Blues Brothers movie should be up there. Dagnamnit! ( pardon my blaspheming....😉😁🤣🤣🤣

I ain't religious nor do I have any kind of deconversion story but I do love me some Blues Brothers and this church scene has to be one of the greatest movie scenes in cinematic history. And while I would never fall for any religious dogmas, I can't deny wanting to partake in such a raucous good time. As I understand it, this scene is only just barely an exaggeration?
