"Slight Return" is a song by The Bluetones, released as the second single from their 1996 debut album Expecting to Fly. A re-release, it was originally issued as a double-A-side with "The Fountainhead" the previous year. It peaked at number two in the UK singles chart and remains the band's highest-placing single to date. It was also included on the band's 2006 compilation A Rough Outline: The Singles & B-Sides 95 - 03.

It's mad how you couldn't get away from this song in 1996, it got played a lot on the radio, and MTV and VH-1 both played the video regularly too... A quarter of a century later, you never hear it anymore unless you play it by choice... Loved this song then, and still do now

I have to say I only learnt of this song this morning on the radio on the way to work. Possibly heard it somewhere else before. Tho I was only a kid in ‘96 so I can’t relate there. Glad I know it now. Catchy tune

Sadly a pal of mine from school took his own life last year. I'll always remember sitting in his bedroom in 96 aged 16 watching him on his drum kit trying to drum along to this song and singing out of tune and me in stitches laughing. Rest easy friend and thanks for the good times.

I know how you feel - my best friend, due to circumstances I won't go into, fell into what I can only describe as a severe depression. He didn't take care of himself, his weight increased enormously and he eventually died of a heart attack. He sort of willed himself to die - he told me that death couldn't come too quickly, which was heartbreaking to hear. He was such a fun bloke in his prime. Sorry for your loss, mate.

One of my lifes soundtrack songs. I loved The Bluetones as a kid in the 90's. I was 16 years old and a mad Stone Rose's fan who couldnt see past them until bands like Oasis, The Verve, OCS, Shed 7,The Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets and The Bluetones changed that. This is my karaoke song.

This was the very first single that I bought with my own money when i was a kid. Can remember skipping school after lunch to get bus into town and go to Woolworths. Think it was £3. Still got it to this day. Huge bee on the cover with green background. I think it was Babylon Zoo that kept it from reaching number 1 at the time. That was at a time when you had to sell tens of thousands just to hit the charts. This song and video were played everywhere.

Where did you go ? When things went wrong for you When the knives came out for you Where did you go? All you needed was a friend You just have to ask and then You don't have to have the solution You've got to understand the problem And don't go hoping for a miracle All this will fade away So I'm coming home , I'm coming home What did you learn? Locked away all on your own Chance and your head all blown What did you learn ? It was unfortunate You missed your chance to find out that You don't have to have the solution You've got to understand the problem And don't go hoping for a miracle All this will fade away So I'm coming home, I'm coming home You don't have to have the solution You've got to understand the problem And don't go hoping for a miracle All this will fade away So I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home But just for a short while...

I must of first seen this in about 1996 one afternoon on Australian satellite television. I remember it fucking un-nerved me. Especially the ending with the clock. For some reason it scared the shit out of me. The singer is sitting in the old school building on a Saturday Morning. I have always had this irrational fear of being in a school building on a Saturday Morning. I don't know why. Smacks of the supernatural that video. It is a "funny" video for those in the know.
