30:30 First of all, am I the only one who finds it somewhat ironic that an island completely devoid of any native mammals is called "Hog Island"? On a more serious note though, I cannot overstate what I am about to say here... This. Is. A. MASTERPIECE! Dāv, I'm not kidding man, this is one of the best videos I have ever seen on this platform! It doesn't even feel like I'm watching KZbin. It feels like I'm watching an Animal Planet documentary in like 2002 during the days of Jeff Corwin and Steve Irwin! (Or as I call it, the golden age of educational programming)
@Darnakas11 күн бұрын
I heard the name came from a population of pigs which lived on the island because a ship sunk nearby and the surviving pigs populated then very well on the island.

Wow, that Hog Islands boa looks much different than many in captivity - far more grey scale, blacks and greys etc. Always a beautiful locality, though that one looks more like the Cay Caulker and Cay Crawl boas really. Must be different areas, the captive breeding, etc. Super cool!
@Moser7214 күн бұрын
I dig it. Honestly one of the biggest takeaways I got from this was the Hog Island spotlight. I’ve never really had much of an appreciation for them, but seeing why they look the way they do and what that island is like makes them 10 times cooler in my book. Nice video!

We need an addendum for the northern Coastal Mexican boa! Sonoran Boa, Boa sigma, whatever lol. Includes the smallest growing boa locality the Tarahumara Boa, tho the Sonoran Boa isn't very big either (I have two lol) plus has the Leopard morph that shows up in wild ones I hear (considering it's insane camo that doesn't surprise me if true) I honestly think if more DNA sequencing is done we will end up with even more species differentiation. That 2016 paper only had 78 examples or so, some from the wild, some captive. Great stuff Dav! Hope you can do something with the Sonoran boas sometime. The Yucatan boas are dark like the northern ones but the latter can have far more orangey red to peach tails. Depends tho the lighter they are the more that shows up, hence Hypo being a popular variation (that also probably shows up in the wild a bit, just not dominantly, as that nor Leopard gives them an advantage over the dominant phenotype)

Amazing Dav! Love your reptile adventures. I've been following for almost a decade. I can't wait to watch this! The intro really was brilliant, with great questions that all of us breeding boas in captivating are sure to learn about! The key to success in this industry is always improving our knowledge of the species that we keep and to innovate new ideas that help us keep our husbandry the best it can be, and a key aspect to that is what your doing by learning and spreading awareness and knowledge! I love the reptile industry because of how we all want what's best for the animals and how we all come together to share our knowledge and experiences with everyone, i mean, you're making movies now! It's absolutely incredible. Loved the Ball Python video, and again cant wait to watch this! The industry isn't very old at all! Its amazing what it is now and how much info is available thanks to people like you! Thanks so much Dav!
