CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Vern (Jerry O'Connell) overhears his brother discussing a corpse; Chris (River Phoenix) and the others decide to find it.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on the Stephen King short story The Body, Rob Reiner's easygoing nostalgia piece is set in Castle Rock, OR, over Labor Day weekend, 1959. A quartet of boys, inseparable friends all, set out in search of a dead body that one of the boys overhears his brother talking about. The foursome consists of intellectual Gordie (Wil Wheaton), born leader Chris (River Phoenix), emotionally disturbed Teddy (Corey Feldman), and chubby hanger-on Vern (Jerry O'Connell). The boys' adventures en route to the elusive body are colored by the personal pressures brought to bear on all of them by the adult world. Richard Dreyfuss, playing the grown-up Gordie, narrates the film, while Kiefer Sutherland dominates every scene he's in as a brutish high-school bully.
CREDITS:
TM & © Sony (1986)
Cast: Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell, River Phoenix, Casey Siemaszko, Kiefer Sutherland, Wil Wheaton
Director: Rob Reiner
Producers: Bruce A. Evans, Raynold Gideon, Andrew Scheinman

Feldman got that role cause no one else could replicate the turmoil of Teddy Duchamp's life. Probably cause most 12/13 year old boys don't have to go through the years of abuse, neglect, and disappointment Corey did from a very young age. If you really think about it Teddys childhood isn't that different from Corey's.

When this movie came out, he was the only well-known actor, but only appeared in the beginning and end in person. John Cusack was second place after his roles in Sixteen Candles, The Sure Thing, and the ridiculously goofy Better off Dead. The kid from Gremlins and The Goonies third place. Everybody else was pretty much unknown, even Kiefer Sutherland.

Stephen King is an absolute LEGEND lol he's responsible for the vast majority of the stories that have made the biggest and most profound impact on my childhood. This one being right near the very top along with the Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Maximum Overdrive, Pet Sematary, Carrie, Cujo, Christine, Misery, and of course Firestarter. Then the rest of my top 20 all-time favorites have always included most of the rest, like the Stand, the Langoliers, Cat's Eye, and "it." It made growing up in the late 70's and early 80's extra special. What a time to be alive. 👍

Back in the 60's, it wasn't unusual for tween/teen kids to disappear for an entire day. Spending time to explore and learn about the world. "I'm going over to Bobby's house today." A lot of movie connections through this film - Kiefer Sutherland and Casey Siemaszko are also both in Young Guns, and an episode of Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories - "The Mission", which also features J.J. Cohen and Gary Riley, whom with Siemaszko, were in Back to the Future - which was produced by Spielberg. Gary Riley is also in Stand by Me, and Summer School, which was directed by Carl Reiner, the father of Rob Reiner, who directed Stand by Me. Kiefer Sutherland and Corey Feldman are also both in The Lost Boys. Corey Feldman and Frances Lee McCain are also both in Gremlins. McCain in also in Back to the Future, and both BTTF, and Gremlins were both produced by Spielberg, and were both filmed at Courthouse Square on the Universal Studios backlot. River Phoenix and Bradley Gregg are also both in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Spielberg) and Explorers - directed by Joe Dante, who directed the two Gremlins films. Bradley Gregg is also in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, which was co-written by Frank Darabont (The Walking Dead), who wrote and directed The Shawshank Redemption, which along with Stand by Me, are based on short stories from Stephen King's book, Different Seasons. The production company behind The Shawshank Redemption was Castlerock Entertainment, which is director Rob Reiner's production company, and Castlerock is the fictional setting for Stand by Me and The Shawshank Redemption.

I was 12 years old when I first watched this movie. It was my first rated R movie, and I had to wait until both my parents weren’t home because I wasn’t allowed to watch anything rated R. I fell in love with the film, and my two biggest celebrity crushes originated with this movie.
