I absolutely love the vibrant color palettes and photography & illustration styles of 50s and 60s cookbooks. I bought a cantaloupe last week that was hard and not very sweet, so I made chutney with it --- it would be perfect for this soup.

Hi Jill....when I saw you pour the lemon juice right in on top of the milk I thought uh-oh but the milk didn't sour. Why? Also if you can find it in your area give Mrs Ball's Chutney a try. It's from S. Africa and to my knowledge comes in regular and spicy. Made with peaches and other fruit. So good on so many things
@yesterkitchen2 жыл бұрын
HI Heather! Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look for it next time I need chutney! Did you mean curdle? I stirred immediately and it will be fine . This is fabulous!

I guess I learned to cook I learned to really eat in the '60s and '70s sometimes even before then and I love what you pick out of these books a lot of times they are not the ones I would have picked out I have a tendency to pick out more frugal casseroles and that type of thing but I love them. I have never had a chance to try Indian dishes to try out if you run across a recipe of a tuna Curry casserole it's quite simple and I'm sure it's in that era would you please do it or let me know it may have been tuna or chicken I think I used to do it with tuna but I lost the recipe but it I know it was a recipe of that era have no clue where it came from but I would kind of like it back I liked it but not often because it was a little different the taste of curry powder was different to me and I think that's what made this meal slightly different to us but I never went on in the Indian foods. I believe this recipe was with cauliflower. It's been yes a few years ago 30 or 40 but it was a staple I think it had soup male curry powder and tuna or chicken you get the idea and it was a little casserole. I would really like to try it on my family now but I really don't remember enough to make it work
@yesterkitchen2 жыл бұрын
HI Diana! Oh I have seen it! If I could just remember where! Curry powder was considered exotic in the 60s and 70s. If I come across a recipe and it tests well, I will absolutely make it!
@dianatennant43462 жыл бұрын
@@yesterkitchen it was good it was a different flavor than what we had ever eaten here but I think I could get it through my family but I can't remember how to make it it's been too long ago
@dianatennant43462 жыл бұрын
@@yesterkitchen I remember it was kind of expensive and it didn't take a lot of it so I just kept it on the shelf and kept using it until it was done and that's probably when I quit making it
