He said a second tower had hit because the first one had already been struck before he even went in the scool so why not go somewhere else and tend to the matter?

Bush was notified of the first tower just as he arrived at the school. At the time, the report was that it was probably a small propeller plane and may have been an accident.

@Vidar93
@Vidar93 5 ай бұрын
@@juicydangla4270I am not a fan of Bush especially with him getting us so involved in the middle east but I think he did the right thing here.. He remained calm and collective and I'm sure was processing everything, if he just booked it out of there I can almost guarantee that it would have caused a panic to happen at the school with both students and teachers leaving. He team is still being informed on the severity of the situation and even with him being the president there isn't much he can directly do in that situation, the air force was already scrambling jets and rescue teams were already on their way to the towers. The best thing he could do as the figure head of our country is to project strength and resolve and eventually speak to the nation when all threats were resolved. But even then that was a very different time and not like today where a president can reach the world from the phone in his pocket. I don't say any of this with ill will or hatred but what do you think he could have done in those 10 minutes that would have had a serious impact that day? Again I don't mean that in jest I sincerely would like to know what you think.

Okay but how is no one talking about how quickly that goat story escalated? The entire first page is a rhyme about how the goat keeps eating things, and eventually the girl trains the goat not to eat everything. Then on the next page, some guy just shows up, robs their car and drives away, and that's how the story ends.

Man… I remember when this happened. I was in school and the whole school froze and we were locked to our classroom as all we could do was watch the TV and teachers calmly instructed to call each parents if they were able to pick us up and if not stood by to comfort us. I was in the 4th grade at this time and didn’t know how bad it was until after school ended. Panicking at that moment would only scare the kids and insure distress and chaos.

What he did really in my opinion was strategic. He sat listening and gathered his thoughts. Come to Jesus Christ today Jesus Christ is only way to heaven Repent and follow him today seek his heart Jesus Christ can fill the emptiness he can fill the void Heaven and hell is real cone to the loving savior today Today is the day of salvation tomorrow might be to late come to the loving savior today John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Hebrews 11:6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Jesus

Not even close to this level, but I was once reading a book to a kid in the hospital who underwent brain surgery and needed to be kept calm and her mind stimulated, when I received a call on the hospital line and was quietly told that my father just had a massive heart attack and was going in for surgery, with his chance of survival at less than 25%. Knowing I could do nothing, but I could at least make this kid happy for a few more minutes, I finished reading the chapter. Inside, my mind was screaming and crying, but I kept a calm composure. After I was relieved, I ran downstairs (he was in the same hospital) and found my family. He made it, and he's still alive 22 years later. This all happened in the spring of 2001, mere MONTHS before the 9/11 attack, so when I saw that Bush stayed to read to kids, although the news razz him, I respected that. He knew those kids needed one last moment of calm before their world upended in chaos.

Bush had advisors who were working behind the scenes. He made a committee the school and too these children that he would be there with them. These kids are now in their late 20s, early 30s. They don't have the same memory of that day as the rest of us. "Where were u when the towers were hit?" I was in school. I was watching the morning news production made for the school, and than my history class switched over to watch local news, as we always did. We were learning about current events and how they can become something in our history books. Even a more ironic class lesson have I had. These kids however. They get to remember how calm their President was. And how he put his commitments to these young children, first. He did cut his vist short, he didn't stay and vist with the kids and their teachers like he had planned to. Because he did have a job to do. But 20 minutes to make these kids know they were important... nothing could replace it.

Yeah it's a good thing Bush was there or those kids might remember 9/11 as a fucked up and traffic incident. I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks that spending time with kids is more important then responding to an attack against the country you're supposed to be running is a moron. Trying to justify that instead of admitting that Bush made a mistake is imbecilic.

It really wouldn't be that difficult to be like "oh goodness, I'm so sorry kids but as it turns out, there's some very important president things I need to take care of," or something like that - could even make it a fairly slow exit, give a few more words and a smile, thank the teacher, all that and casually exit. Yep yep, i was 10 years old. I watched it live with my mom on TV. All my siblings was in school but i got sick and threw up on the bus. The one and only time i EVER threw up at school/on bus. When we got to the school the bus driver took me to the nurse and my mom came and picked me up. On the drive home my mom stopped at the A-Market _(a small little country store here in the Appalachian mountains)_ the woman behind the counter knew us pretty good and told my mom to turn on the radio to a news station and said that a plane crashed into the twin towers! My mom had a Mercury Cougar. We listened to radio but my mom was just _interested,_ not freaking out yet. When we got home my mom turned on the TV and we watched the building smoking and she realized how serious it was. Then BOOM the second plane hit live on our TV. My mom was standing in the living room floor and she started stomping up and down screaming. I remember seeing the 2nd plane hit and how ny stonach felt like it dropped. Like tge feeling of a roller coaster going over a hill. Y'know? The inertial feeling you sometimes get in cars.. My uncle (mom's brother) was on an airplane, he traveled alot. Shes frantically trying to call him with our house phone. My uncle was the only person i knew who had a cell phone in 2001, the Appalachian mountains is VERY rural. He traveled so his company provided a cell phone. But it wouldn't work. His wife is on the phone with ny mom and theyre both crying and freaking out that my uncle might be on one of the planes! I remember my eyes watering up and telling my mom to stop screaming and crying please, its gunna be okay. But she shouted at me "THEYRE ATTACKING US JAKE!". Anyways, my uncle was ok. His plane was told to land at the nearest airport immediately. He was stranded at an airport in Michigan. Im a rare case of someone my age who saw it live because i wasnt in school like most people my age. Even my siblings didn't see it happen live and im the youngest in the family. The crazy thing is... Its almost as if i knew something bad was about to happen because i felt so weird that morning and i threw up before the attacks started. I wasn't even sick the rest of the days after the attacks! Kinda crazy. I remember alot more i could go into but thats the basic overview of my story and where i was on 9/11.

"What would the children have thought if he rushed out of that classroom suddenly?" That he's the president? Doing import president things? I'm not suggesting he scream and run out of the room. Just say "excuse me I'm being called away. It was wonderful to meet you all. I hope to return some day to see what happens to that goat" and leave! The kids might have been disappointed but not scared.

I absolutely agree. Sitting like that in a few minutes of calm probably allowed him to process the words "America is under attack" more than he would have been able to if he'd immediately gotten all the details right at that moment. He had time to let the statement sink in before going to address things.

I always forget how different 9/11 is for people who were far from it. I was only a 2nd grader too but there was never an opportunity to not panic when you have family who lives/goes to school/works in Manhattan. Ultimately, Bush staying for the children was probably the right move but I think of my 2nd Grade teacher who was a huge comfort by telling us what was going on as calmly as possible.

I work with children as young as them. He chose the absolute best option. Let the children be read to, enjoy the story, have their snack time, let them be unaware and having fun, don't stop storytime to cause children to cry "does this mean I'm going to die? Are my parents?" If you can't stop it, and you're not near it to stop it, why bother causing an entire place to panic? An entire place not near the attacks (as far as I know), a place not being attacked either, doesn't have to be sent into an immediate panic. Let them find out later that day if you have to.

Why? Genuinely why? The dude literally started a war in Iraq over nothing and killed hundreds of thousands of people. In what way does he deserve sympathy. Serial killers will be in higher levels of hell than George W. Bush. Not to mention his lack of action during 9/11 and the drafting of the patriot act. Plus the rumors of 9/11 being something of a Pearl Harbor 2: electric boogaloo. As far as I’m concerned if there are any people who deserve torture and hanging it’s Bush and Cheney.

I think he was very smart to stay calm and keep an appearance of listening to that story for that extra 10 minutes for 2 main reasons.
