The Grogu luke story wasn't that unexpected after the last episode tho and they have to keep Asoka in the game somehow with her show coming up and all that. Cad turning up was just a matter of when rather than if, they need an Antagonist with reputation (who's already canon) and he makes the most sense. Like i've been waiting for him since the Pykes showed up, this is basically a Mafia-Western and he's like THE gunslinger in star wars (and probably the one who killed the Tuskens). That was his failing in Empire Strikes Back. He didn't technically do much in Return of the Jedi. Besides save Han Solo. But in a deleted scene it seems he had to go to Tatooine anyway, to build his lightsaber. Killed two birds with one stone. Then he left his friends to confront Darth Vader as a final test from Yoda. Luke has attachments out the WAZOO and I can see this being a total Jedi Mindgame to see where Grogu is at mentally. All in all this was a really fun episode. I'm hoping for the same. Maybe even a little similar to the (deleted) fake out test for Rey? (I know, invoking the sequels, BUT that was actually an interesting scene and should have stayed in, in my opinion!). That said I'm also kind of worried it's intended to be a kind of set up for WHY Luke's temple ultimately fails (and why he is so bitter/jaded) - because he tries to hard to cling to the old ways, when he should KNOW BETTER. (And I blame the sequels for forcing their hand that way.) I also wonder if Ahsoka's little 'trust your instincts' was her trying to nudge him in the right direction. Interestingly, in the last episode, I also wondered if the Armorer was also kind of subtly trying to nudge Din in the right direction too and also setting forth a test/quest for him.

Cad freaking Bane wow he looks so awesome in live action, of course Corey Burton brings the character to life with his iconic voice but honestly the physical actor (who I assume is most likely a stunt double) was surprisingly very accurate and faithful to how he was animated in both Clone Wars and Bad Batch, the actor both had to wear a bunch of layered clothing AND extensive prosthetics but was able to bring across just how ruthless and imposing Bane can be, the combination of that with Burton’s voice fully brings Cad to life and imo it worked practically perfectly

Let's say Grogu does choose Mando. Does that mean next week Luke returns to Tatooine and helps Boba and Mando out? Because I would dig seeing Boba and Luke interact after what happened in Return of the Jedi.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOUR REACTION ALL DAY! THIS EPISODE MADE ME SCREAM! But to be real, seeing Ahsoka and Luke interact in live action made my brain explode. I do however hope that we get to see how they meet at some point and talk about Anakin. Luke looked WAY better! Hiring that deepfake guy definitely helped. However, there were a couple of times that his face and voice didn’t match. Also, those conversations Luke had with Grogu, shouldn’t he have already had those conversations? Why wait so long? I guess it’s for storytelling. Oh, and…..CAD…..BANE! Jay the way you sat back in your chair at 19:01 when you realized who it might be made me howl with laughter lol! Also…that Boba Fett cameo was pretty sweet…. ALSO ALSO, I can’t say enough of how amazing the music is. I love that Master Jedi Luke theme that plays whenever he uses the force like when he was destroying those droids last season. It’s the music that plays when he is lifting the frogs. It sounds so epic and haunting.

You can already see why Luke failed though. I know that the sequel storyline is badly written, but Luke's demand that Grogu make a choice, right at the start of his training, mimics the Jedi and how they treated Anakin.
@ro4eva2 жыл бұрын
There have been so many instances already where the sequel trilogy has been contradicted by 'The Mandalorian' + 'The Book of Boba Fett' that I doubt it's the same timeline. Heck, the sequel trilogy was so poorly managed that it managed to contradict itself multiple times.

@@ro4eva Fair point, and I honestly don't much care for it, but the sequel trilogy can burn in a fire. Just give me Din and Boba and I'll be happy.
@MrCharles79942 жыл бұрын
There is a difference; Luke gave Grogu the choice knowing that Grogu's internal conflict would violate the rules of the Jedi eventually, as he'd either break his vows or be conflicted for the rest of his life...*if* he chooses to go with Mando. Luke can't know what the best choice for him is, only Grogu can. The Jedi didn't really give Anakin a choice; Luke tried to explain why the choice was needed, accepted Grogu's decision, and clearly taught Grogu a little bit of the force in the meantime, presumably enough to protect himself. On the other hand the Jedi code is still *complete* nonsense. If anything I wish we had a sequel trilogy that recognized that, and was instead focused on how the Jedi *and* Sith codes were both self-destructive and attempted a synthesis of them (and other force techniques), trying to stay true to the themes of star wars while engaging with the philosophies in a deeper way. Instead we get the *sentiment* that the past was broken, with no *substance* in the second film.

This might be my favorite reaction - that weepy, dewy eyed look is EXACTLY the look I had through the first 20 or so minutes of this episode. The funny thing is I had made myself a cup of tea, and decided to make some of my Republic of Tea 'Mandalorian' themed tea (I bought myself the whole set for Christmas) and decided on the Luke+Grogu brand. It was perfect :) And at that moment when the screen just cut - almost anticlimactically - to Luke sitting there meditating I almost dropped the mug entirely and my eyes just completely filled with tears. My heart almost stopped seeing Luke and Ahsoka just standing there hanging out and I WANT MORE. I agree, I want that hour long talk about his father, lol. Hell, we know Hayden is around for Kenobi and Ahsoka, he should just drop by for tea ;) I think there are some fair criticisms to make of the focus of the show in general (I think Boba deserves his own arc/story which has now been sidelined) but so much of this made me so happy. I will say one thing that did NOT make me happy was the pain of watching Ahsoka and Luke repeat the mistakes of the old Jedi Order here. Ahsoka's musings on Grogu missing Din are so similar to the fears of the Council regarding Anakin missing his mother, and they went about it the wrong way. Obviously it's great that Luke is giving Grogu a choice but I'm very much a 'why not both' girl, and especially coming from somebody for whom balancing his attachments and the Jedi way saved the galaxy it's just...sigh. (And I get they kind of have to do this because they have to basically set up the new Academy for failure...it makes sense that Luke might try to fall back on re-emulating some ideal instead of trusting his own instincts, but it hurts to watch.) Funny thing is , when this show started, my big hope for a cameo was Qi'ra. And here we got Ahsoka, Luke Skywalker, Cad Bane, Cobb Vanth and Artoo. Oh,and Cin Dralig ;) How many Order 66 reenactments are we up to now?

You guys’ reaction to Ahsoka was everything! And the music that played while Luke and Ahsoka talked was the same theme that played when Luke crooonched those dark troopers. A friend I think it’s called. Fitting. Here are the two ways I think it’ll go whether Grogu’s choice is revealed next episode or in Mando s3. One: he’ll choose the armor and reunite with Din maybe at the end of the episode or in Mando s3. Then he’ll be trained by Ezrah later. Maybe in the Ahsoka series. Or he’ll take the light saber and train for a while more while Din does his thing. Then he’ll have a force vision of Din in trouble like Luke did and go off to help him. I’d prefer he pick the armor, but I could live with either choice. But I need like 3 hours of Luke just training Grogu and others.

@Ghostfailure33object272 жыл бұрын
I think that would be a good way of doing it. I want to see Omega in this show but it’s too soon. They have to carve out her story in Bad Batch just a bit more, but just a mention and a cut to black like you said would be a good, and also kinda funny.

I have a feeling Grogu will get both. Luke was testing his friendship with Din and I think his idea of a new Jedi Order would be not to abandon attachments because trying to choose between your loved ones and being a Jedi is what got Anakin in the first place.
@takeitslowly39082 жыл бұрын
I also think Luke would choose his family and friends over anything any day. I mean, that's literally how he saved the galaxy right? By choosing love for his father over anything. Imho this is Luke's way of testing Grogu's priorities and seeing where his heart truly lies.
@BlackWind-rx5il2 жыл бұрын
There's unfortunately a giant 7 hours and a half of problems with your theory, called "sequel trilogy". As long as those are canon, Grogu isn't Luke's first student, that's Ben Solo and this Luke grows old to become "failure" Luke, who did everything following the old Jedi teachings. Which means Grogu chooses to go back to Mando and doesn't become a Jedi. The only way that doesn't happen is if current canon gets shattered, thus rendering the whole sequel trilogy non-canon or an alternate timeline. So this choice isn't just about Grogu, it might be pretty much about what is these series' main goal going forward: rewrite the future of Star Wars, or just telling stories in between the original series and the sequels, trying to give them context to retroactively make them better.
@TheRivrPrncess2 жыл бұрын
Adriangabs It wasn't the choosing between his loved ones and the Jedi that messed up Anakin. It was the failure of the Jedi to clearly explain that attachment was not wrong, but being a Jedi must have first place. Also the Jedi wrongly let others in power teach that any attachment was not to be on a personal level but "business like". Luke is going to teach Grogu that either he can be both a Mandalorian and a Jedi, or he can be a Jedi but to put his feelings for those he loves in it's proper place-second to his work as a Jedi.
@TheRivrPrncess2 жыл бұрын
@@takeitslowly3908 No. Luke did not choose his father over anything. He simply behaved as a Jedi should-never giving up on someone who has strayed from the light side of the force.
@TheRivrPrncess2 жыл бұрын
@@BlackWind-rx5il Asoka said Grogu would be Luke's first student. With such words, the "sequel trilogy" stopped being canon. Even before this, Luke's words, "talent without training is nothing" ending the sequel trilogy.

@voiceinthenoise33572 жыл бұрын
Your reaction warmed my heart Luke forcing Grogu to choose makes sense because after witnessing the result of his father's fall into attachment, he's a purist. Wearing armour creates doubt in the mind of a fighter who trusts the force to guide them. Maybe there are exceptions, but surely it's fundamentally at odds with being a Jedi to wear armour? It hinders motion and fosters an overreliance on being protected from potentially fatal mistakes. See the video of someone trying to do a backflip using a safety mat - on the final attempt with the mat taken away, they succeed in doing the backflip.
