You gotta admit though, Denzels delivery and pacing says so much about how he interprets those passages. Sometimes people forget our guy was cast in the on screen adaptation of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" and either "Othello" or "Macbeth" off Broadway (been so long I can't remember which one or if its both). It's such a great exposition to the scene/violence he's forced to take part in that he didn't ask for and tried to avoid. It's one of my favorite movies.

Hollywood mainly relies on already famous charismatic movie-stars for marketing purposes. The Equaliser series are a bit of fun, but they are terrible movies. Tom Cruise is another movie-star that is himself in every movie. However, he is much better at playing himself than Denzel is playing himself/trying not to be himself. Tom seems like Tom really is in that situation for real where as Denzel seems like he is pretending. An example of a great actor would be Bryan Cranston. there are suttle hints throughout the movie that show he is blind. He never attacks first so that he can hear or feel where they are. Its something you have to watch closely to notice, but he is blind.

He is. It's hinted at from almost the beginning. Blind persons often have heightened senses, such as smell. He smells the hijackers, "a mile off". Then moves into the tunnel to fight them, where he has the advantage. In the street shootout scene, notice that he fires in the direction of the sounds of the shots. We learn at the end that "the Book" was written in Braille. When he reaches the sanctuary of Alcatraz, the movie shows that his eyes are completely clouded over. (It's of course based on lots of Biblical things, but especially the story of Saul later named Apostle Paul of being "blinded by a great light in the sky" , like a nuclear event. )

I just realized that Gary Oldman's character just stood there and watched it all go down. Like, he was just doing his thing, heard some commotion, then listened to some guy some some biblical monologue before killing everyone. Once he heard him say that, Gary's character knew he had the book.
