You gotta admit though, Denzels delivery and pacing says so much about how he interprets those passages. Sometimes people forget our guy was cast in the on screen adaptation of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" and either "Othello" or "Macbeth" off Broadway (been so long I can't remember which one or if its both). It's such a great exposition to the scene/violence he's forced to take part in that he didn't ask for and tried to avoid. It's one of my favorite movies.

@@etiennesharp Every character he plays feels fake. Every character he plays feels like Denzel Washington as:... At 24fps, movies look fake and many aren't believable anyway so you don't really care. It is a theatrical-performance(over the top). Don't confuse: Movie-star, with being able to act. There are lots of average-actors in Hollywood. Hollywood mainly relies on already famous charismatic movie-stars for marketing purposes. The Equaliser series are a bit of fun, but they are terrible movies. Tom Cruise is another movie-star that is himself in every movie. However, he is much better at playing himself than Denzel is playing himself/trying not to be himself. Tom seems like Tom really is in that situation for real where as Denzel seems like he is pretending. An example of a great actor would be Bryan Cranston. From interviews to Malcom in the middle, to Breaking Bad, the guy is completely different and believably different! So good you can't tell he is acting!

If every man modeled themselves after (including myself) him, how much better would our world be? I bet he hates this. We are but the only known species in the in the entire universe, and we are killing each other and destroying any joy we should be enjoying. We’ve got to come together, or else we are doomed. If I've said this once, I've said it 1000 times. This character is NOT blind during the entire course of this movie. "Omg, he's reading braille! He must be blind!" No, he can just read braille. I think he had sight issues, yes, but he could see. I believe his eyesight was deteriorating and mostly gone, but not until the very end. But he definitely was NOT Ray Charles blind for the whole movie.

there are suttle hints throughout the movie that show he is blind. He never attacks first so that he can hear or feel where they are. Second is that when he fights, his eyes never track the person he is attacking. Its like he is constantly looking past them and never at them. Its something you have to watch closely to notice, but he is blind.

Man, I have always thought the same thing - He says, "this place across the road, do they have water"? While looking directly at the place through the window. There are countless other times where he clearly sees what's happening.

When I saw this scene and the other fight scenes in the theater I was like, this fighting style looks like Inosanto blend, the stuff I train in. But I wasn't sure since a lot of martial arts share similar movements. Then saw Jeff Imada as stunt coordinator in the end credits and confirmed it!

I hate this argument. He was not blind the whole time. In the shop at the beginning of this scene, and many points during the movie, it's glaringly obvious he can see. You don't have to be blind to be able to read braille.
