One of the most sincere and genuine newbie tags I have watched (and I have watched MANY!). Just subbed and looking forward to your content. My favorite booktubers are the ones who just speak conversationally. No need for bells & whistles! Good luck to you!

How wonderful! Welcome to BookTube. I'm on hiatus at the moment but lurking from time to time. Happy to subscribe and follow your BookTube journey. All the best!

Thank you for watching and for your warm welcome. I'm looking forward to your return to Booktube, as I know a lot of people are, when you feel ready to do so. I was sorry to hear that you'd been insulted by some rude people, and I hope you know that there are lots of us who feel a loss from your absence

I can feel your thoughtfulness and care in every sentence, the kind of sharing I wish to see. Whether with nerves or otherwise, you instill comfort. Maybe that's just your own comfort with words or with glimpses of yourself or with how words can lean beyond the phrases we expect. I'm glad you're here. You ask about lighting. If you have access to natural lighting via opened windows, I highly recommend you allow for that. Natural lighting is somehow fuller on camera than that of bulbs. When I film I have windows along my left and right side open, then all the ceiling lighting on-they must be above otherwise they glisten in my glasses. If that's not so easy-let's say you only have decent lighting from one direction-consider buying a photography reflector. It might seem silly with the bulk of those reflectors off-camera like that, but no one has to see it, and it will balance the light on your face without creating a stark sheen. There are probably ways to create your own reflector using cheap or household materials; surely someone has figured that out by now. With that little bit of trouble I think you'll be a in a great spot. KZbin has set a standard of expectation in the basic look of what's on camera. Unfortunately, that means even with perfect lighting some people are going to click away merely at the resolution of the footage. See if you're able to get a smartphone with a decent camera, something used that isn't too expensive. I wish you the best of luck, and I love that you're here on BookTube. Thank you for joining us!

Thank you very much for your kind words and for your advice in regard to lighting, you've definitely went above and beyond the call and I appreciate that. I have a confession to make - that until you mentioned trying a smartphone, it never occurred to me that during all the time I've spent fiddling with my laptop, moving it around, placing it up on stacks of books, squirming around, adjusting the settings, growing more and more frustrated, I have had a perfectly capable smartphone in my pocket with a much better camera which I could have been using this entire time. For some reason, it never crossed my mind I could use my phone. I'll definitely try it for my next video. Thanks again

Yes it’s fun this BookTube thing. Don’t worry about lighting and equipment. The most important thing is that we can hear you. You don’t need a fancy camera or anything. I film with my tablet and phone.

Thanks for watching and for the advice. I'm going to use my phone's camera for my videos from now on, it's not perfect but it's much better. For some reason, I totally forgot that my phone has a camera.

Welcome to BookTube. You did great. I still have like gating issues. I just film facing a window with partially closed blinds to reduced the glare on my glasses.

Thank you very much for watching and commenting. I don't think I've told you this before - I don't know if you remember but you and I have had a couple of great conversations over the past few months in the comments of your videos - but you were the second Booktuber I discovered about two years ago, and I want to thank you for helping guide me to this whole community of readers and book lovers. Booktube has brought a lot of joy to my life, and helped save my reading life when I was beginning to question why I continued reading when it was becoming such a lonely pursuit. Thank you again, and I hope you have a great day today.

Hello everyone, I want to leave this comment to say that in my next video I'm going to use my phone's camera which is much better (hopefully) than this frustrating, disappointing laptop camera I've been using, so next time the quality of my video should be at least somewhat better. I want to thank ToReadersItMayConcern for this suggestion - I have to admit I feel kind of goofy for having my phone in my pocket all this time and never once remembering that it has a camera. Unfortunately, I'm not able to pin this yet, either. Oh, well, I'm still learning. My next video will probably be my thoughts on Jack Kerouak's Lonesome Traveler. See you next time!

In KZbin Studio try clicking on Content, then the Comments for this specific video (not the general comments screen). That should allow you the option to pin your own comment. For whatever reason you're not able to pin comments when viewing the general comments across the whole channel.

Welcome to the community, John! You and I both experienced a wonderful invitation from Mark. He's currently on hiatus but his advice and warm welcome was pivotal to me arrival. MJ from Reading this Life is also a great supporter of booktubers. I greatly appreciate the courage and initiative you've taken to join us. The nervousness will subside soon enough.

Hey welcome to booktube! Lighting can be tricky but you don't need to break the bank on recording and lighting equipment. I'm an avid horror book and manga reader but I'm open to other genres as well. Again, welcome to booktube. 🙂❤📚

Hey, thanks for watching and for welcoming me to Booktube. I read horror sometimes, most recently I read Simon Clark's The Tower and James Herbert's Domain, but try as I might I've never been able to get into manga. I've always envied people who could because the art is so beautiful, but unfortunately, I'm not very visually minded. Ed: Also, I've subscribed to your channel

Welcome to Booktube! Man, you are so authentic and real, I love it! This a very welcoming community and you will find so many booktubers who feel the same way you do. We all love books and love having conversations about books. I adore The Far Side and am obsessed with WW2. Seriously don't worry about your lighting, experiment and things will come right. I was also very nervous at the start and I am sure you will get stronger as you pump out those videos. I look forward to watching your channel grow. Do it your way, absolutely! 👍
