The old women were probably cast for at least one of two reasons. The first is name recognition for general audiences, since not everyone is going to know anything about Borderlands and they want to cast that potential net as wide as they can (in the stupidest ways possible). The second is because casting people in roles that don't make sense for them due to real-life physical limitations is part and parcel for movies nowadays. If it looks impossible, cast it. Find the most ill-fitting person for the role you can because that's diverse or something. Could also just be some sort of other internal bias for actors that have been around for a while or people with their fingers in pies they shouldn't be in. Hollywood is a giant, incestuous circlejerking orgy where everyone exists only to serve the interests of others. They want as few new people coming in as possible so they can keep the demented bloodlines (and bank accounts) as pure as possible.

I have a theory why there are bad video game movies. 1. You can't translate gameplay into just a sit down and watch experience. Games are fun because we play them, not watch them. 2. Tax write off's. Uwe Boll did that will all the movies he worked on, and because he didn't care. 3. They are trying to sabotage videos games because they are mire successful then movies, so if they can ruin the franchise, then the game might suffer.

Mortal Kombat 1 and the Super Mario Brothers-movie may be entertaining because of their trash-appeal, but still suck as game-adaptions. And everything that came after was (and is) way worse. And even the Japanese suck at this, just look at the movie-versions of Fatal Frame and OneChanbara. So, can the movie industry please stop with that pointless endeavor.

The people in charge managed to exclude and character-assassinate characters at the same time, in the first game the cast were very different in character. Lilith was a haughty siren. I've been a big fan of Borderlands for 15 years now, since the first released game. From the second I saw Kevin Hart being cast as Roland and Blanchett as Lilith, I knew this would be a total disaster. I mean, Borderlands is known for being funny and edgy, but Roland is one of the few serious characters and the first true leader of the so called resistence against Hyperion and the corporations in general. Not using Handsome Jack as the main villian either shows that they knew this would totally bomb, or that the people in charge of hundreds of millions of dollars are totally insane.

8:42 Mad Moxxi has two children though, Scooter and Ellie, so she's at minimum 45 years old. She's the only woman you can't complain about being old. However, as a Lilith Main I was insulted by the casting choice, and Tannis going from loveable autistic science girl to old woman was just as much of a punch in the gut.

Wow. Disney can sustain a loss of this proportion without batting an eye but for Lionsgate it's about 10-15% of their market cap. This piece of trash cost $120M just for direct costs and has brough in $18M in ticket revenue - maybe $8M in net income. "Cocaine Bear" cost $35M direct and by day 10, where we are now with "Borderlands," had brought in $41M or about $20M in profit. Basically, a film like "Cocaine Bear" is kicking "Borderlands'" butt. That is a true indication of mediocrity. It also brings to mind a quote from "Serenity": "You know, in certain older civilized cultures, when men failed as entirely as you have, they would throw themselves on their swords."

I remember when my gf told me they were making this movie and i said i won't bother getting excited because they're going to screw it up Then i see the cast and who they're supposedly playing and it doesn't take place 30-40 years after the events in the game.
