The Bosnian Genocide and Gaza War: Drawing Parallels | Centre Stage

Refik Hodzic is a journalist, filmmaker and an expert in transitional justice who has also worked as a spokesperson for the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. Hodzic joins Al Jazeera presenter Rawaa Auge on Centre Stage, where he draws parallels between the Bosnian genocide and the war in Gaza, discusses the role of Western governments in achieving justice, and explains why young people are his only hope.

It is still quite different than what happened in Srebrenica. First women and children were not targeted back then and the numbers oscilate from 3000-8000 depending on the source and it for sure wasn't ignored by the western governments just that some of them messed up in allowing it to happen. In Gaza there is relentless distruction which is actually funded with a spin from those very governments. That is another level of inhumanity

Bosnians are ethnic South Slavic people just like the rest of the people in the region and they have always been in Bosnia and Herzegovina, they didn't end up there through conquests or invasions, they are natives of the land. The only common ground between bosnians and palestinians can be that they have both been subjected to a genocide. other than that, they totally have different historical background and dynamics, so it doesn't make sense to make an analogy between bosnians and palestinian arabs.
