Great demo, that is a great step forward for acoustic guitar players. wondering if you could do another demo on it when you're more familiar with it. I think from what I have seen here that the effects are almost limitless. Also, I would be interested in all the gear you are using, guitars , amps etc. Maybe you could do a comparison of the L.R. I agree with the looper issue, and it seems to be a similar issue on a lot of Boss kit (other than the dedicated loopers). The GT-1, for example, has this issue. In my case, the lack of a single-click stop function made the GT-1 looper impractical for performance use. IMO Boss really need to update the software on these units to allow an external footswitch to control more advanced looper features.

This pedal sounds great! Seems like it has everything and the some for playing live. In regards to the looper, it’s a nice feature but I’d rather use a different looper that has a dedicated stop.

Great video guys. Just bought my AD-10. Seems to me these multi-effects pedals that include a looper tend to be a mixed bag of missing capabilities. That's why I have several dedicated looper pedals...simply because they are better. These days, most folks that really care about good looping already have a looping pedal. I have six. When a better one comes out, I get it.

Hey Pete! "From the horse's mouth" comes from buying horses. Just like used cars today, the "used horse salesmen" were notorious tellers of "alternative facts," particularly about the age and diet of the horse. But, if you were a savvy buyer, you could look at a horse's teeth to discover the truth about it's age and past diet, and therefore overall health and judge a fair price. So, "From the horse's mouth" means to see through confusing speech and lies from others and find out the truth of a matter from the beast itself, with no middle man to add confusion.

Kind of a noob question, but when you are using an acoustic preamp like this, what are you running it into? Just a PA, right?
@VanPete876 жыл бұрын
For me it was either buying an acoustic amp, and then have to take two amps to gigs or get a Preamp/DI box. I chose the Preamp. Less stuff to carry, better sound and more control over EQ than plugging straight into the desk/PA. Then from the Preamp you can indeed run it to a PA or desk, and then back to a monitor for example. Hope this helps :)
@BradBradstock6 жыл бұрын
Yes Pete, but do you use this pre-amp?

Not this particular one, no. But I don’t reckon that makes a big difference to answering the kind of “general” question. If it does, forget what I said in my first reply.

Thanks, just curious, as one who is continuously on the search for the "Holy Grail" for live acoustic guitar sound :-). At the moment and for the last ten or so years I've been using an Orchid Pre amp www.orchid-electronics.co.uk/acoustic.htm) . Although I have tried the Fishman Aura, TC Acoustic Live and various other cheaper boxes, actually none have come close to the Orchid for producing a mic'ed up guitar but that doesn't stop me looking. Obviously the Orchid doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the others. I use a TC Helicon Harmony G for vocals and that does the trick, but it would be good to get an "all in one" pedal that has the quality of the Orchid. Great review Pete, as always
@VanPete876 жыл бұрын
I see. But that’s a whole other question. I’ll tell you my (live) situation. Because obviously studio sessions are totally different as you can use as many mics as you like in a room without a band playing and having to worry about any bleed in the mics/ feedback and stuff. I go acoustic > pedalboard > Fishman Aura Spectrum DI > balaced/xlr out to desk (> to monitor, so I can hear what I’m doing and how I sound). Through pedalboard so I can use my effects, I don’t use them a lot, but sometimes some come in handy like the Wah in some songs or a bridge, use some delay for a solo, or recreate a room or hall with some reverb, accentuate stuff with a BOOST!! or overdrive, but mostly I play clean with a hint of reverb. Then into the Aura Spectrum DI. To really use this to its fullest capacity they have these “images”. Now, according to Fishman, what they did was; in their studio they miced different guitars (bodies, ie dreadnought, jumbo, nylon) with different mics you can choose from. There are litteraly dozens and dozens of these Images. Note that these are not made to change your guitarsound or replicate sounds. For example you plugin a nylonstring guitar and set the image to twelve string, it doesn’t make your nylon to sound like a twelve string, that doesn’t happen. But what it does, and this is pretty clever, all guitar types have their own unmistakable character (in the EQ as well) and fishman recorded them with different mics. So like the warm and deep dreadnought or big sounding jumbo, the crispy clear orchestra (or “OM”) and so on. And then you can add that particular character/ respons/ EQ handling/ image or whatever to your sound using the blend knob to taste. So connect the device to your computer and find the image CLOSEST to your guitar, recorded through I mic you like, choose on of the 12 slots to put it on. And now you can blend it in! I blend it to probably a max of 40% and I believe it to work really well. Doesn’t change my sound in a huge way. But it gets a warm, roomy, natural sauce so to speak as if there is indeed a mic on your guitar. Well, the tone hunting journey... it’s endless. I’m kinda satisfied now. But I might want to change everything next week. Taste changes, so does technology, gear, knowledge etc. I’m good for now. Anyway; I’m a lot happier than I was plugging directly in the desk, or carrying two amps. So whatever works for you, works. There is a sound coming out, which is useable for me, fo me. Hope this helps a bit. ✌🏼

Can you get Pete to review the TC Helicon Play Acoustic. I'd love to know what he thinks of it as I think it's a great pedal for the acoustic singer/performer.
@thepennydrops.6 жыл бұрын
Paul Stubbs I bought one for gigging duties. Found accessing the body Rez settings in the pedal a pain in live situations. For gigging I’d recommend the separate harmoniser and body Rez pedals (or better sounding PreAmp) for quick, easy adjustment. Not sure of the benefit of the single unit....I sold mine after a short period.
@paulstubbs44876 жыл бұрын
Interesting as I originally started with a TC Harmony Singer (which I loved too) and then decided to go for the one pedal rather than buy the separate Body Rez. So for me I guess the harmonies are the key and the Body Rez is slightly secondary. So I generally just stick the Body Rez on a setting (usually 3 or 5) that sounds good and then maybe EQ it with the guitar or amp. The bonus of having it all in one unit with a tuner/looper with a simple and flexible set up is really the icing on the cake. Although I've been a big BOSS/Roland fan for a couple of decades I think the TC products are more superior in this field. Would be interesting for Danish Pete to do a review.

Love both guys, but I think it's time to test acoustic equipment with decent sounding pickups. L.R. Baggs, Fishman, Seymore D., Dimarzio, Highlander... can't be that hard to find. Playing is great but the sound is horrible and off-putting. Let's get it done Pete! Come on, man!
@MrLesismore19906 жыл бұрын
Taylor's ES2 pickups system is widely considered one of the best that are made. Baggs, Fishman, K&K, etc... are all great but the ES2 is right up there with them. The problem is that most of these units are made for steel string guitars and not classical's. I think that is the basis for the tonal discretion you're hearing.
@slomaks6 жыл бұрын
Sam Dowty I'm not sure we can compare ES2 or other USTs (barring highlander and carlos) with magnetic pickups, transducers, mic systems, or any combinations thereof. All I'm saying is, there have been many reviews of quite expensive gear on Andertons, and still not one acoustic pickup that faithfully reproduces sound of the guitar, or comes close. I love my takamine cool tube, which sounds better than these two guitars, but it is still a UST.
@MrLesismore19906 жыл бұрын
But would it sound better in the same environment, with the same playing, through the same cable, into the same interface, using the same DAW as them? And your right about comparing transducers vs other types of acoustic pickups and mics but the reality is that these types of processors are designed to help the "quackyness" of transducer pickups. There is a level of audio gear where the idea of "better" becomes completely subjective. It's all about what you do, where you do it, and how you do it that determines if something is "better" for you and what you do.
@slomaks6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you Sam on the subjectivity and perception and these being the tools for most of us who play with the shortcomings of piezzo USTs. However, all these reviews make it seem like there is only one way and only one type of sound we should just resign to. The reality is also that there are now many players who use magnetic pickups and transducers and mics and their sound is different, and in many cases, better. Not perfect, just less quaky, more depth, easier to play, easier on the ear. It shouldn't be too hard to temporarily install baggs m80, or fishman rare earth, or k&k meridian mic, etc. and just do a comparison. Even with great players like Ariel and Pete it's a struggle to play these guitars the way they play Duesenbergs, and definitely a struggle to listen. Again, at Andertons, where electric guitars and amps can cost as much as a decent car, why would you settle for low level acoustic sound signal path processing and amplification.

@billglass84302 жыл бұрын
Really not the greatest of reviews. Pete ‘twiddles’ every knob far too much and you never get to focus properly on the sound differences. Zero on eq setting storage, a cursory plonk on the boost and so on. the looper issue I can see could be irritating to many, I regularly just set a rhythm loop in my solo gigs and so it would work fine for me for those songs. I do run two separate loopers currently, one sending percussion tracks pre-recorded, as well so this would lose one of the them. It’s not a vehicle to be the funniest dude in the film guys, let’s concentrate on the basics of information, please?
