reason why it is a wings league....forcing turnovers is more important than rim protection. Twenty blocks a game doesn’t win games if opponent shoots 40% from three and getting 20 FT. However, twenty turnovers is twenty extra possessions for a team to score. Steals>blocks.
@anruyanshiju63623 күн бұрын
@@jamesball5743 I meant blocks within two feet of the rim not blocks at midrange or three pointer. With stretch bigs developing a jump shot at the elbow, you can't just have a big in deep drop coverage every possession (also three second defensive violation)

Schierman looks close to a finished product. Same with the kid from Gonzaga. When you have a championship team and they are relatively young as this team is, why not draft 23 year olds? Both draftees will be 24 or close to it by season start. Stay in school kids! Enjoy your college years.

I watched a bunch of his defensive tape too. It's not as bad as people make it out to be. Sure he gets beat of the dribble at times, but so dont the best defenders in the league. The effort is there, he has good instincts, rotates his hips well, good feel for clogging the passing lanes, and has the size to defend up to the 5 if need be. I think once he gets in the league with pro coaches and trainers he'll be able to improve his quickness. We watched Hauser go from a minus to plus defender in 2 years. I think Scheierman is starting at average and has a higher ceiling.

When we do a re-draft 4-5Y from now, baller shooterman will be a top 10-15 player of his draft class. Excellent playmaker (did play backup pg for creighton), excellent shooter and crashes the glass. Defense is suspect but only against shifty guards. Has an offensive bag and doesnt shy away from contact. He will break into this rotation in the 1st 2 months of the season and play when Joe goes small over bjg (baylor vs. Queta) and when al sits on the 2nd night of a B2B. A guy who can slash to the basket, hit the cutter, kill it from behind the 3? This is basically a guy from the Celtics factory. He can do everything that he needs to do...except be a lock down defender. But then, that's why he's available at #30, and not in the top 3 of the draft. The Celtics offense demands a lot of intelligence, understanding of the opposing defenses, and the ability to move the ball or make the shot when you get open. This kid looks like he has all of that. Will he be a slight liability on defense? Probably. But then he will be a backup, and the players he will be facing will mostly be the other team's backups. He's not going to be guarding Giannis or Luka. Given some maturing in the NBA, this guy can be as effective as Hauser, and maybe even more. I love this pick. Notice that I think he will be able to contribute, but I'm still pumping the brakes. The assistant coaching staffs of the NCAA are littered with guys who were superstars in college but their game just didn't translate in the pros. Hope he is not one of those guys.

I watched Hauser at Virginia. There is no way in the world with his assets I take him over Schierman. Schierman is an all around type player, while Hauser is just a spot up shooter. The knock on Hauser in college was he didn’t play defense. Hauser has as many bad nights shooting the ball as he does good nights. He’s too predictable for me. If he misses two 3’s in a row he’ll quit shooting them. The defense can see a pattern with him. He lives by the box score. 3 pt. shooting percentage. Schierman has good handle. He is better at creating his own shot. He’s also stronger than Hauser. Not afraid of contact. I’m going to guess, but I think Schierman has a good chance of making Hauser a better player. I don’t see Schierman seeing a bunch of G league games. He’s just too good for that. And with that said, he is going to want playing time. I see Schierman being top rotation player before the Christmas holiday, which means Hauser may be playing with Schierman as a two wing tandem (mini Brown and Tatum). This combination could increase value for Hauser by trade deadline. The focus for the Celtics is concentrate on winning another championship and increasing the rotation from 8 to 10 players. This creates value and guards against season fatigue and injury.

@@jacobthomas7322 I feel this way too, I don't think his game comps to Hauser, main similarity is they both shoot 3s. I agree he looks like more of an overall scorer, we'll see if that translates to the NBA.

Baylor Scheierman looks like he's in slow motion with his three. That is not an NBA player thats a G-league star at best.

At 6’7 he’s got a little more freedom to have a slow release

He sure looks like a perfect fit HOWEVER let's not forget he was picked last in the first round and among the options Boston had I think he was projected fourth (?), in a weak draft. So let's not pretend like this is a lottery pick. Crossing my fingers though that Boston's development system can turn him into a steal a few seasons down the line but he ain't that steal yet.

Imagine believing this guy just walks in to a championship team and earns rotation minutes. Bizarre
