Thought to consider: when Jinx's mechanical butterflies attack the bridge, they seek out guns and sit on them and then blow up. Probably this was meant to break the blockade at the bridge and take out enforcers, since in general, it seems nobody in the Undercity has or uses guns except Jinx. The fact that this happens just as Ekko, Vi and Caitlyn are there is probably mostly incidental. BUT! Caitlyn went above and beyond to save Vi from her stab wound, selling her gun for the anti-stab-wound-potion she bought. In so doing, she saved her own life, since none of the butterflies TARGETED her. She still got hurt, being so close... but if she had her gun in her hands, or strapped to her back, she'd have died. So, love saved Caitlyn's life :P

It's hard not to be broken by that fight. Pretty much everything is depressing about it (well, maybe except the soundtrack). It wasn't typical fight, it was super emotional. I mean, Ekko used memories of their childhood and Powder's habits to win and Jinx just didn't care about dying at the end.

@@joshgreiner2599 spoilers for arcane and lol below. - - - - - Ekko can also go back in time about as long as that whole scene takes in real time. There's also episode 8 to consider along side the sound you hear right before the explosion. Ekko saw Powder wasn't gone and instantly used his pipe to knock the grenade away making it less lethal before jumping off the bridge. Still very deadly as she needs Singed's help to survive, and his leg is broken and his gear messed up. Jinx did kill Ekko shot him in the chest, but before he died he triggered the back in time. And tried to kill him and herself again.
@joshgreiner25992 жыл бұрын
@@lyrebirb83 mmm, ima disagree :). In game (I'm pretty familiar with LoL lore), Ekko uses the Z-drive (something he invented) to facilitate the time rewind. I don't think he has that yet. In fact, I think that will be the fruit of him and Heimerdinger collaborating, as shown in the end of ep. 9.
@NRG-REC2 жыл бұрын
@@joshgreiner2599 except that doesn't work. That goes against what the scene was meant to show which was Ekkos growth and ability to learn from past mistakes (which yes, is a key part of why he'll use the z drive more effectively than anyone else could.) That's his whole thing so why would they have a whole montage only for him to make the same exact mistakes with his life actually on the line? Narratively speaking, that would be idiotic. He didn't do the same move at the end for starters. His kid self jumped entirely too early, basically running headfirst into a fired paintball whereas his older self closed more distance before attacking, stunning jinx long enough to hit her( we see her shocked by the move) just cuz it's in slow motion for us doesn't mean she had more than a split second to act and again she was shocked. She also immediately tried to shoot him again once he knocked her down so I seriously doubt she was holding back the shot before that one because either would've killed him if they hit. It doesn't really make sense. She was holding back with the bomb though for sure, but that's because he stopped first, and they had a moment, combined with vi leaving, taking all the fight out of her. I don't believe jinx really wanted to kill ekko in that final moment after she calmed down but she absolutely was willing to before because as the show established, she completely loses control when upset. Hell if Vi and Cait hadn't got extremely lucky and moved when they did, she would've killed them too.

Also an implication that he tried to kill Silco for trying to stop him or for getting in the way (assuming that because it was the same time period and clearly Vander felt like Silco was in the way of something he was trying to accomplish). I got the sense that after the bridge incident and Vander trying to drown Silco that their roles reversed. Vander saw what the result was and adopted kids and that mellowed him while Silco was traumatized by Vander and that hardened him and pushed him towards violence. But in the past Vander absolutely would kill for it.

To me, the Vander vs Silco philosophies are not so much about "good rebel" vs "bad rebel" like so many other stories are, but that Vander changed to his peaceful ways not because he had moral qualms about using violence against their oppressors, but because he realized that the violence was not worth it when he saw the toll it was taking on his own people, particularly the children affected by it. He decided it was better to accept inequality than to fight to the point of having no one left to fight for.

fr, i think people get too caught up in the betrayal of it. silco is a good father in that he prioritizes jinx but he also deliberately fed her worst instincts and fears for his own gain. he's an effective leader but also a drug lord who intentionally destablized the lanes further to flood the streets with a largely untested highly addictive substance to gain power and used child factory labor. the situation is complicated but he's hardly singing solidarity forever and offering union protections- and in the end, he made the exact same decision to prioritize HIS kid.

When you look at Silco and Jinx's characters from a father/daughter perspective, I believe that Silco didn't lie to Jinx directly and wanted to protect her daughter as Silco said. The series is all about perspective and its characters sustain/create traumas. Episodes 4 and 5 Silco/Jinx interactions are very different from the classic malevolent villains, both visually and in dialogue. Silco has more or less learned how to be a father over the past 7 years, and to the best of his ability, he's been removing the things outside that could pose danger and trauma to Jinx. Since I know the series doesn't contain black and white characters, it's apparently just gray. I'm curious about Singed's backstory, what got him on this path. Maybe it's a situation with her daughter, who knows, we'll see.

In-game he can control time and turn it back so that's a little homage to that. 2. In-game there is a voiceline where Ekko's says: "i had a crush... until you started talking to the gun." He basically admits his love to her, which what makes this whole scene even more sad.

I love that you picked up that Viktor hesitated to cut the wire when defusing the bomb. Not many people do. But as we've seen, Viktor is willing to go pretty far for his idea(l)s, and I really think he though that it might be better that both of them die here and now, so nobody weaponized the Hextech. But I think he tought he could still sway Jayce to do the right (for him) thing, so he disabled it. EDIT : I just realized something. We know this show love making parallels between things. And as a parallel to Viktor's choice with the bomb, we end on Powder (not Jinx), facing the exact same choice, seeing something she holds dear going completely off the rails (in this case, herself). But she didn't make tthe same choice as Viktor, she already lost hope that things could still change and be back on track.

A lot of people overlook the fact that literally in his prior scene Silco had dominated a room full of chembarons, yet in this scene he is rendered powerless by his adoptive daughter. She is his one weakness, his one fear. Not of death, but of losing the one person that has filled the void that Vander left in his heart so many years ago.

A note that the show I think could have hit harder: when Ekko is showing Vi the mural of the fallen and talking about how Powder is Jinx now and works for Silco willingly, they don't touch on the fact that a large number of those dead were specifically *murdered by Jinx.* We have our two unfortunate sidekicks from the first episodes, but we got to watch Jinx actively kill some more Firelights in episode 4 during the cargo raid, and those certainly weren't her first.

The big thing about Vander, is that he "didn't wan't change", he'd rather the status quo between topside and the lanes remained the same, with the lanes full of poor people starving, stealing and fighting among to themselves for scraps. As long there wasn't more bloodshed, he didn't see a way for his people to win, as he tried once and saw the consecuences. Silco instead decided that he would do whatever it takes to for his people to gain independance and respect. His fight is noble, his methods are not. The mysterious blue sustance is called a flare. Vi gave it to Powder before going to rescue Vander.
@noobgoestrapping50842 жыл бұрын
Bit of a correction. Vander DID want change. He just didn't know how to get it. So he was doing the best he could to protect his people and keep the status quo in the meantime. He did want change still. He did still want better. But he couldn't find an answer that involved prices he was willing to pay.

Now... Why do Silko isn't affected by the gaz he brought up to his underlings? Well... Simple: Despite being such a bad bad BAD guy, he is true to his origins. He still live in the undercity where pollution is everywhere and breathing his hard. So he is more tolerant to toxic gaz. In contrario, the others start to live in mantion close to the surface and lost their tolerance. That's what Silko pointed to them: he is still a warrior for a cause. He still want to free his city from Piltover.

Watching Silco lie to Jinx about why Vi is back hurts every time. Like goddamit Silco. He knew what he was doing :( Also I agree with your reading of that scene -- I think Viktor was considering not cutting the cord on that bomb.
@sealofapproval6372 жыл бұрын
I'd argue that it's not as clear cut as that. Another way to see it, and one that fits a little better, to my mind at least, is that it is not an intentional misrepresentation of Vi's motives. Silco has no reason to trust the reason Vi gives for returning, given Vi's abandonment of Powder (Silco doesn't know that Vi was trying to get back to Powder when Marcus abducted her) and her searching the underground with an Enforcer in tow - only after the theft of the hextech crystal casts doubt on Vi's intensiona. I think Silco's need to protect Jynx means that he can only see Vi as a threat to her so that's the narrative that rings true for him, thus the only one he presents to Jynx. He's a damaged individual that sees betrayal everywhere, given his experience with Vander, and in fairness he is half right, Caitlyn is primarily there for the gemstone, she doesn't know Vi & Jynx are sisters until the end of this episode. To me it's more tragic yet also more believable that it's not a villains' self serving deception that leads to tragedy but rather a damaged father's attempt to protect his daughter - I'm not saying either interpretation is correct, just that (like in a lot of great writing) there's multiple ways of looking at the same interaction/relationship 🙂
@jamesliggins8912 жыл бұрын
@@sealofapproval637 I can understand where you're coming from, but being that she told him directly "I'm here to get my sister and bring your bullshit empire down," I think SIlco saw it far more as him taking away things he thought belonged to him and only him. If he truly cared about Jinx's well being, he could easily have told her that her sister was back, and saw how she felt about it, or talked it through with her, instead of lying and or not being forthright. To lie about what Vi said only after being caught in his own lie, and to keep reinforcing the narrative that it's only him and her, is most definitely manipulative. Silco is definitely damaged, but he is also definitely manipulative. I think it's telling that his immediate instinct was to try and drive that wedge between them further apart instead of trying to unite them, as Jinx has clearly been thinking about her sister a lot. I think it can be both self-serving and protective at the same time. I can accept that Silco in some way thought this might be the best option for Jinx, but I'd have to be blind to what we know of his character to think he wouldn't try to warp the situation to his advantage.
@n0bleonline2222 жыл бұрын
@Seal of Approval ++ I agree @@jamesliggins891 Man, this series is all about perspective, Violet Jinx and Silco can't know their relationship (father/daughter) Violet doesn't know anything, she's stuck in the past and wants her little sister back, whom she talked to in the old days. Anything Violet has to say about Silco has no source of truth, the same goes for Ekko. Both close friends (Ekko and Violet) lost their father figure and siblings. I doubt they'll think about what Silco is planning and why he's doing it. They just want to stop him. For example: -Ekko, who said that Silco was scattering the shimmer on the streets. -As we can see, the Shimmer is not a Silco thing. (It's a liquid from the Singed character.) -We saw that the shimmer was available for use at Vander's bar. -We know that the Chembarons have news about the shimmer. (Even the son of one of the Chembarons works there. (The boy who pressed the button) I can't understand the fact that Silco wants to make his underground city people addicted to shimmer. It would make sense if he was a character who did evil to be the common bad guy. But it is not. My view is that he thought it was Silco that delivered Ekko Shimmer to the streets. The fact that Deckard, who has taken Shimmer, has seen Ekko kill his father figure, perhaps thinks Silco is the only human with access to Shimmer. Who knows. This is not a confirmed thing, I don't see any logical reason. I just don't see the point in Silco doing this. I just think Ekko is looking for someone to blame.
@jamesliggins8912 жыл бұрын
@@n0bleonline222 There's some revisionist history going on here. The Shimmer is obviously coming from Silco -- he was working on developing it with the doctor in the first act, where they used it on the cat, used it on Deckard, and where he talks about using it with Vander. We also see him freely giving it out to the homeless people in the second act, where he uses them to attack Vi. And then he has huge manufacturing plants full of it in the third act, where he has the kids working. It is most definitely a Silco thing. I am confused about why you would try to ignore or change all of that in the story.
@n0bleonline2222 жыл бұрын
@@jamesliggins891 I'm not trying to change anything. I'm starting to think you didn't read what I wrote. I'm saying my friend, I can't see the purpose of Silco making people living in the underground city addicted. For Zaun, I can't relate to independence, to shimmering kids and making them addicted. What good is silco for children who are addicted to shimmer, what does Silco gain from this, can you explain it to me? Episode 6 may also have given shimmers to people who are already addicted (to keep Violet and Caitlyn from going upstairs) But tdhat doesn't prove that Silco has dispersed it underground. Singe and his Chembarons are aware of Shimmer Even the character Finn talks about losing money in episode 7. It made more sense to me that a character like Finn would sell shimmers for money. Or other chembarons. We watched the episodes that reminded us of what Silco wanted to do since episode 3. But the fact that Silco was the one to distribute Shimmer to the streets seemed ridiculous when analyzing the character. So what's the purpose? We hear from Ekko that it was Silco who deployed the shimmer underground. (Ekko shows the children inside the firelight base, mentioning that they were either victims or addicts)

I love the Chem Barons confrontation with Silco. How he was not affected by it is a combination of two things - while the other chem barons have moved into towers stretching out of the Undercity, like the one the meeting is held in, Silco remains down in the lanes, breathing the air there the same as everyone else. He's simply tolerant to it because it's just a more concentrated dose of what he breathes daily. In addition, he breathed in deeply just as Sevika entered witht he gas canister, and conserves his breath. If you're used to it, several versions of tear gas can be handled if you breathe slowly and carefully, and I think that is the effect they are going for - Silco is more accustomed to the substance, and he is prepared for what is about to happen. The best part is when he says "we came from a world where there was never enough to go around", just as everyone has gotten a mask except himself and Finn... and there is only ONE mask left. Not enough to go around. Showmanship :) As for Silco and Vander - Vander was more than prepared to kill people and go to extremes - it's not like him using his supposedly cast iron gauntlets to crack enforcers skulls against the pavement would have left them alive. There's been some hints and suggestions that the conflict between Vander and Silco was rooted in more, as well as some... UNCLEAR stuff there, but the main difference between Vander and Silco was that Vander was not prepared to lose "his people"... IN A FIGHT. So he decided to lose them slowly to pollution and starvation instead. That's what Silco is upset with him for, really... not being willing to pay the COST to make progress against Piltover. He, meanwhile, IS prepared to pay that cost. The difference, then, is a certain degree of callousness, ruthlessness. My read on the situation between Zaun and Piltover affirms Silco's stance in this. Zaun is suppressed and exploited in such a way that rebellion is, frankly, inevitable. To win, the only resource Zaun has to draw on is their people. Either you spend their lives in the fight, or they die from the inexorable, slow genocide Piltover is already running. That's what Silco despised in Vander, in the end - that when he took in the sisters and became their father, he was no longer willing to make the sacrifices needed to win. He felt that in order to win against their oppressors, Vander should be willing to sacrifice even those girls... or at least, that's what I think.

@NRG-REC2 жыл бұрын
Hell no people wouldn't feel sorry for him. Lots of fans BARELY even acknowledge ekko suffered at all compared to jinx as it is. Like he wasn't an 11-12 child who had everyone he cared for die overnight and was then forced to fend for himself in a world ran by the person responsible, powders new dad, who while loving to her would gladly brutally murder him or anyone else who opposed him in a heartbeat. Only to find out years later his best friend is still alive and murdering on that same man's orders. His best friend willingly murdered some of the new friends he'd managed to gain. Folks have mentally broken for far less. Ekko suffered tremendously and the fact he was able to take his pain and use it to drive him to help others so they wouldn't suffer the same is impressive. Realistically tho, if ekko was in jinxes place atleast 70% of the fan base would be calling for his death. He wouldn't get the same empathy jinx gets from people.

Silco ostensibly wants better for his people, but the way he goes about it -- using, abusing and discarding his own people -- is something I don't think Vander ever would have done. Throwback to one of the first episodes with his little pep-talk to Deckard before juicing him with shimmer. Something along the lines of “Stop at nothing to become what they fear”. I think that was a demonstration of that ideology, as he took a sip from the mask before giving it to Finn

You should check out the Imagine Dragons - Enemy official music video for some added scenes with Powder and Ekko as kids hanging out. He had a crush on her growing up and they were always together, sadly the show just didn't have room to show their relationship. It adds a bit more weight to their fight and why the moment he paused when he realized the Powder he cared for was still in there.

No spoilers. So... You already watched last episodes. And I want to say that now I realize that 8th episode is supposed to turn all the things much more clear before finale. It gives final pieces of motives of other heroes and so on. And during your reaction series I kinda feel bad for Silco. I know that not everyone is supposed to love him as a character. But at my first watch I was a bit stunned how good was his writing. Creators of Arcane really did a well designed villain for their show. And to be honest it was much more of expectations play because I didn't see it coming so good. I hate to idolise this show and it takes a lot of appreciation from it's fans quite deserved. But I think that it is always important to notice why this show is so good. They did their maximum ov every small section of the series. It is combination of very simple things which were combined masterfully. I'm looking forward to see next reactions. This was a good nostalgia session for me.
