A SCHOOLBOY from India who suffers from ‘Werewolf Syndrome’ dreams of defying his condition and becoming a policeman. Lalit Patidar, aged 13 from Ratlam in the Central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, was born with Hypertrichosis, a condition more commonly known as Werewolf Syndrome. This condition is characterised by abnormal hair growth on the face, arms and other parts of the body. Despite his condition, Lalit lives a happy life and dreams of one day supporting his parents by becoming a policeman.

As a dog groomer, I wish I lived near him so I could trim around his eye corners, mouth, and nose once per week just to keep him comfortable, or even a style if it would improve his self image at all. Without wishing to sound unsympathetic - because that isn’t the case at all, although this boy has a terribly frustrating condition he has to live with, it isn’t (as far as we are aware) affecting him in any other way other than being an awful nuisance & affecting his confidence / self esteem. He’s a healthy boy, he has full functioning limbs, organs are in perfect health, it hasn’t affected his ability to eat, sleep, play or learn. There have been far more severe cases where the children can’t do any of the above who really are in dire need of medical attention. That’s not to say this boy doesn’t need a cure or additional help, but I’d personally rather see some of those children / adults that barcroft has featured who have little to no quality of life helped first.

I'm glad he has friends and good support around him. A decent parent will always teach their kids to not judge books by their covers. I know too many grown-as adults who haven't grasped this concept and its sad. Sometimes, it just takes saying something as simple as "you should go talk to them", or "they're just like anybody else" to get children to accept others as they look and adapt to loving people of all shapes, sizes, conditions, etc. Because unlike adults, children are often more willing to learn from each other and change for the better. Intolerance and cynisim is TAUGHT.
