@@kingol4801 No it isn't. Homelander has always relied on his pure strength, invulnerability, and laser eyes for every encounter which is usually with soft squishy regular humans. The reason he gets his ass kicked by the Boys earlier and Maeve in this scene is because he's never had to ACTUALLY practice his form or have a real foe to fight. His wide, predictable haymakers make him an easy target in hand-to-hand for anybody who actually knows and has had a fist fight before, such as Butcher. He hasn't practiced because why would you need to when you can just laser everybody in half?

It was a better sendoff than the comics version. keep in mind comics- except for dive helmet wearing Deep, most of the supers could fly even maeve and starlight. context- comics, Homelander finds out She was spying for butcher. maeve is standing talking to starlight on the flying heli-base unlike the tower in this show. Maeve sees homelander. maeve throws starlight off then swings her sword at homelanders head. he makes a comment after it shatters about it being a display. shocked falling starlight sees maeve's head fall past her. she accelerates to leave

Imo since Maeve was able to penetrate Homelanders skin with a metal STRAW (those are not just the cheapest weakest metal the manufacturers found, but even more importantly, HOLLOW)… I think its fair to assume Maeve with a sword thats made from a modern high-tech knife steel (D2, VG10, SV35, etc) would most likely be able to cut Homelander. Maybe not enough to cut straight thru his bones and dismember him, but most likely enough to cut through muscle. And thats enough to kill. She put some serious pain on him 3 times in this fight. 2 times unarmed, one time with a improvised weapon. A nosebleed from a punch, a nutshot that made him reel in pain - and finally the pierced eardrum. And the Karate-Punch he gave her, that threw her back? He'd have punched a big gaping hole thru most supes with that. Give her a real weapon made with 21th century metallurgy and shes got a decent chance to cut him up.

You also have to remember that the organs/inside of a supe are way more vulnerable than their skin. Even Becca was able to take stormfronts eye out and it’s likely that the only reason Maeve could pierce him with the straw is because the tissue inside his ears aren’t anywhere near as strong as the outside of his body.

Tho from the looks of it, seems like a top supe can put way more force behind something than most guns. Also, perhaps some very specific steel could be better than those I mentioned - all knife steel is a compromise between thoughness, ease of sharpening, edge retention, corrosion resistance… many propertys of which not all are that important for a one-time Homelander chopper sword. In believe there is a massive difference in toughness between Homelanders eardrum and his regular skin, but the difference in toughness between the metal used for a straw and a modern knife steel (nvm a specifically developed one-time use steel) might be just as big.

No guarantee it even works on Homelander. He's fast, he's stronger than all of them, and he's blood related to Soldier Boy. Totally guaranteed to kill everyone else though... and she likes Butcher and Starlight a lot. The math made sense. Don't take a gamble when it will kill absolutely the entire resistance to Homelander... and he can just fly away immediately. She also needed to get out, she was dead there - she can't beat Homelander. Admirable showing, but she's overmatched. He got one grip on her head and she couldn't even squeeze out of it, he's that strong. One grab and it's over. And y'know, if it's the last thing she ever did, it is pretty heroic. Very few opportunities for that, ever, and she was done playing around. It paid off, everyone's still on the board. Life's crazy, fights end when they do.

The interest of his character was that I was under the impression he was actually stronger than other suped, but now hes just a child who doesnt know how to fight and isn't really all that strong when actually challenged. In the comic it's a lot more one-sided. Maeve's sword is basically just a prop and shatters when she hits Homelander with it (it's for intimidating non-Supe humans, not other Supes). Homelander then decapitates Maeve with a single punch, which is, as you'd expect from Homelander, cruelly unnecessary since it's clear she's really no threat to him.

He can't X-Ray through Zinc, his laser vision doesn't care about the material because he can maximize the output to slash anything so far seen in the show. At low power it can still clean cut through skin, flesh and bone like a knife to a cheesecake. He was trying to knock-out Maeve by lasering her chest but Maeve just sacrificed part of her skin and flesh by letting Homelander instead burn through one of her wrist guards and so her own body.

Also Homelander chose to escape, he could have kept fighting after getting them off but chose to fly off. Homelander is able to fight well compared to guys like the deep or a train because he trained as a kid, but not as an adult, you can see with his huge wide punches he isnt elite in combat, with same strength as butcher hed probably fare the same way stormfront did against maeve in their brief fight, able to hurt her when she landed something but unable to land consistently
