I think the whole point of the frenchie new love interest arc isn't about him being bisexual or anything but it's more about his past finally catching up with him and he now has to deal with the consequences. I think a lot of people have missed this factor of it.

Far too much gratuity to just be about his past catching up with him. Sure have one gratuitous scene is par for the course in the boys wheelhouse.. but as many as Frenchie has had? Annie and Hughie have never had that. The Deep and the Octopus only had the one.. And the series up to this point clearly have invested a whole ton of time developing Frenchie and Kimiko. It's like 'winter is coming' from game of thrones. a big nothing burger. It's definitely out of place. that's part of why the season is not doing well in comparison

Fun Fact: Simon Pegg, who plays Hughie's father, was originally going to play Hughie himself and if you look at The Boys comic book, the resemblance is uncanny. Once the animated spin-off, The Boys: Diabolical, came out featuring stories ripped straight from the book, Pegg actually got to voice Hughie. Personally, I think it's all really interesting from a casting perspective.
