This was the Boys’ debut single, written and produced by Babyface and L.A. Reid. It was their first of 3 #1 R&Bs. Their second single, “Lucky Charm,” also topped the chart as did the lead single off their second album, “Crazy,” in 1990. You should check out that video, because they did a fantastic job spoofing some of the biggest videos at that point. The Boys moved to Africa in the late 90s and rebranded themselves the Suns of Light.

***THE BOYS TRIVIA TIME!!*** ..brrrriiiinggg!! ..who is it!? ...The BOYS?! ...wrong number.... (3:21) .... - .. I was 1,046 Years Old when The Boys hit, so, I don't have much trivia, but I'll try....The Boys were performing on the L.A. Beach strips for change, and were spotted by a Music Exec; Of COURSE, they were brought to Motown Records, and gussied up to be the next Jackson Five.... - ...but first, they needed *HITS* ....enter LA & Babyface; They wrote "Dial My Heart" and The Boys IMMEDIATELY hit #1 R&B (and #13 Pop) December, 1988...."New Jack Swing" was on FIRE at this point, so the Bobby Brown comparisons were spot ON, since Bobby was about to release "My Prerogative" when this hit.... - ....as you can see, The Boys stage presence was....a bit 'mature' (1:25), but audiences LOVED it....their next single, "Lucky Charm" (co-written by Pebbles) also hit #1 R&B.....But, as expected, the steam was wearing off; their 1990 Album didn't do well, and they had another #1 R&B tune ("Crazy", w/ a Video mocking Madonna, MC Hammer & others), and they faded away...... - ...but then, ANOTHER 'Boys' hit the scene, in 1991...BOYZ II MEN, with "Motownphilly", and Another Bad Creation (ABC), another Kid Group (both managed & Produced by Mike Bivins of Bell Biv Devoe)...times were changin' ......

Oh dang, so it sounds like their success was short lived aaaaand if I was alive in 88 I would think Bobby brown jacked their sound, if they came out first 😂

These boys were the poised to be the next New Edition and are definitely in the tradition of the Jackson 5. They are actually 4 brothers - Khiry, Tajh, Hakeem and Bilal. They were VERY VERY BIG. They also went on to write and produce their second album almost entirely by themselves and ended up with a #1 with Crazy in 1990, which is rare for guys who were all minors at the time. They quit the industry in 1992 and moved to Gambia in Africa. They eventually started recording independently as Suns of Light and Hakeem, the most charismatic of the group, ended up writing for a bunch of folks including Akon. It's a shame they didn't keep recording until later, but I'll never be mad at brothers and sisters who find a way to reconnect to the motherland and reject some of the excess and nastiness of American culture. They are SUPER interesting figures in black musical history in that way and I don't think they get enough credit. TVOne did an Unsung on them and it's super interesting

When they left the industry were they still on top or were they starting to decline due to them growing up?

This song came in 1988 and was a huge hit in US and was thier only top 20 single, reaching n. 13 in 1988, It's normal that you hear that Bobby Brown, it's the same producers, Babyface and L.A. Reid who produced this song like most of the songs of Bobby Brown ''Don't Be Cruel'' and ''Bobby'' album.
