The kids today have No morals, No Respect for themselves, let alone others? What was & used to be Good & Right. It is Bad & Wrong these days. I'd Hate for people like my Dad and/or Grandparents to see what people are like now. I can bet you that They would Not be happy & would Not put up with it for a second? Dear God. Please Forgive them. David Gates like Karen Carpenter are two distinct voices that epitomize an era that sadly passed away long ago.I really enjoyed the music and the artists from that period when I was a teenager growing up with a transistor radio.I don't always think that change is a good thing, but it will happen regardless of how I feel. The price of progress.

You're totally missing the part where Jimmy Griffin also sang some tunes but none of them are put out as a single. In the classic band lineup was David Gates, Jimmy Griffin, Robby Royer and Mike Botts. David sang vocals and played guitar. Jimmy played guitar, keyboards and percussion and also was a vocalist, Robby was mainly the bass guitarist but he also was percussion, flute or recorder and background vocals and finally Mike Botts was the drummer. Ron Edgar and Jim Gordon were used for piano playing on the first albums. Royer left in 1972 and Larry Knechtel took his role over. Larry also played the harmonica on several songs. The band began in 1967 and took a hiatus in 1973 But returned in 1976 only to officially disband in 1978. David Gates went solo but they decided to reunite in 1995 for one tour. When the touring ended they disbanded for good in 1997.

Nope sorry it is lip synced. Otherwise who is singing harmony on Everything I own? The bass and other guitar player wasn't. The drummer doesn't have a vocal mic. He does have a boom to pick up cymbals. However it was common in those days due mostly to time and money for all bands to lip sync. The very best you could hope for would for them to sing to a prerecorded track(to give a live feel and appearance). Plus his voice doesn't change volume when backing to and from the mic. That doesn't make them any less great. It was really a money/time thing.

@@avcdeal I was never a fan of Bread, even when I got older and stared collecting 70s albums and all. Maybe for some it takes time to tune in closer, and this live concert helps. I'm replying to both of you, as my own mother is suffering through a second round of breast cancer, God help her. Ramnil, my heart goes out to you, and I understand how these songs can bring out those tears. It hurts, but it can help and not keep everything pent up for long. Likewise, avcdeal, I hope there is some healing for you and your spirits lifted. Count it a good deed to you that you shared out this old recording of a live show. And it's a bonus seeing how David Gates and the group seem to be enjoying themselves with the audience in this performance. Thank you for sharing this.

For fellow Bread fans, watch the videos of Larry Knectel. Definitely a musician's musician...On 'Guitar Man' Jimmy Griffin was having a hard time coming up with the guitar line, so Larry steps in and pounds out a gem....among others, Simon and Garfunkel were recording 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' and were looking for the piano part, and Larry comes up with the iconic piano piece that really defines the song....A true master...RIP Larry.

I've been to so many of David's concerts and had a short meeting with him. Sure wish I could have a long sit down. avcdeal - Thanks for sharing this full show with us. It is great to see the entire show from this 1978 performance. It is too bad that James Griffin had quit the group before this was recorded. Griffin was a very big part of the group - and they are not the same without him. He co-wrote a lot of their songs and his vocals (both lead, backing and harmonizing with Gates) were one of the highlights on Bread albums. When the group got back together for the last time in the 1990s - it was Gates, Griffin, Botts and Knechtel. Those were some fantastic live shows - and I wish there was a professionally recorded concert from that period. There are some nice home made recordings of songs from those shows and they are quite good.

I am currently reading a biography about them called "Bread: A Sweet Surrender" and you never would know the problems they were having around the time of this production. David Gates smiles like they don't have a care in the world. He was a strong family man and pretty smart businessman. He's the only surviving original member and was always the most financially secure. Because while he was writing those songs, he was smart enough to know about retaining rights, setting up legal entities, and establishing production credits. Some people forget that it's called the Music BUSINESS for a reason.

very rare to find a real "live" recording. Most are actually lip sync or redubbed, totally ruining the real flavour of a live one. Can tell because (1) David sings most of these at a slightly different pitch/tone than a studio version, and (2) all the wires and cords are actually hooked to the instruments and mics -- very rare
