I think that the movie message is that she does all those weird things because she wants to draw attention, which she lacks at home. After the makeup, andrew doesn't say to her "you look pretty" or " you're beutiful now" or anything like that. He says "I can see your face", that scene symbolises her showing who she really was, she oppening up, the clothes that she uses were on her bag, on the scene where she drops everything on the couch
