One fun fact is that in the original script, Claire was going to have pasta salad for lunch. Ally Sheedy (Allison) came up with the suggestion that Claire have sushi, because it would fit her upper-class status better, because sushi was more of a luxury food around the time this movie came out.

Sushi was popular among wealthy adults then, but it wasn't so popular with other kids or teenagers back in the 80s, from what I remember. I grew up in the 80s, and other kids found things like sushi to be gross. But maybe it was different among wealthy highschoolers in the north Chicago area, where this movie (and numerous John Hughs movies) is set, and Ally Sheedy would've known more about that than me and my grade school friends of the mid 80s knew

As a former competitive swimmer, I can attest to the vast appetite of an athlete-I used to be able to eat large meals too, because I’d burn it off at swim team practice, especially on the high school and college level. What I would give to have that body and hummingbird metabolism again-goddamn you, menopause!!! 🤬

In another KZbin video, many people called it "a diabetic sandwich," because of all that sugar! From a distance, I could see that Allison had 2 different slices of bread, but I couldn't tell if there was also cheese, butter, or mayonnaise on the bread! As for the cereal, it was hard to tell from a distance whether or not it was popcorn, since it comes in different flavors! She even "slurped" the Coca Cola on the desk with her mouth! I don't blame everyone for getting grossed out, since I got grossed out, too!
