Every Wednesday for several years, Peggy Winckowski's grandson, Sam, and some of his classmates would come to Peggy's home for breakfast, until tragedy struck. But then, the last thing Peggy and Sam's friends wanted was to end a tradition. Correspondent Steve Hartman reports on how their grief has been comforted, through pancakes and hugs.

What a beautiful story. In this cynical world we are living, full of ugliness, this lifys hearts. I had a period of three years teaching the gospel to teens at 6am. Then we fed them and they went to school. Many years later they remember the love . When a young person is respected and loved miracles happen.

So often, people can't speak about or share their grief, for fear they'll be a burden, or that others won't understand. But connection is exactly what we need to survive loss and heartbreak. It's lovely that these children know what many adults seem not to: that what's important isn't having the perfect thing to say, it's just to be there. Bishop DuBourg is a special place. My older brother taught Civics and History there for about 10 years, and died of a sudden heart attack in the school gym. The school asked to hold his funeral in their chapel. The service was beautiful, and it was such a consolation to us to see how much they loved and valued him there.

I’m a 45 year old father of 3. You hear a lot of noise out there all the time about “kids these days” and how “lazy”, “entitled”, etc the new generations are and how society is going downhill. Seeing this video: It’s all hogwash, young people. Don’t listen to it. You’re gonna be just fine. Better than fine, in fact. You’re gonna see the world differently than those before you, and you are going to accomplish things than my generation and before could only dream about. Don’t let the bitter words of those who refuse to “pass the baton” deter you from the love and compassion you clearly have within you. As long as that never ceases, this world will be just fine. Cheers.
