I'm still amazed to this day how Peter Jackson and crew managed to do it. They litteraly made a perfect trilogy. Not just a perfect interpretation of a book series, but quite litteraly a perfect trilogy all together. The love and passion for Tolkien's work shows through the screen im every piece of dialoge, score and performance.

I think that a large part of that comes from the inspiration of the magnificent source material and the respect that is owed to it as a cultural tradition(?). I find it fascinating how people are drawn to literature from a writer whose religious philosophical view of life inspired so much about the books. So many great works of art in the past were divinely inspired and somehow touch us in a way that is life-affirming and fulfilling, whilst modern works of art seem to affirm a pointless and empty existence.

Peter Jackson is absolutely clueless when it comes to the intricacies of making music. In one of the 'making of' videos, when they are scoring the music, and he wanted something to sound different, they had someone there who could 'translate' what Peter wanted so that the conductor understood what he meant. It was very funny to see.

The breaking of the fellowship was sad.. But it had to happen that way. Frodo and Sam had to take the ring away from the others or it would corrupt them slowly over time. The immortal elves, the brave men, the dwarves and their vast underground marvels... None of them could resist the ring. Of all the great races all capable of great deeds, the only ones who could resist were a couple of Hobbits.. Hairy footed halfings that live in hobbit holes. And the others all had their parts to play elsewhere... Aragorn had to see boromirs sacrifice, it made him take his first step toward becoming king and embracing his heritage. Merry playing with the palantir confused sauron and he thought he had the ring, causing him to attack before he was completely ready since he thought he had the ring in gondor. Nome of these things would have happened if the entire fellowship survived and tried to get into mordor, it would have never worked. Such a great story.
