The following day we witness the stunning glacier of the same name and experience first hand it’s ice cold turquoise blue pools. Join us for this epic scenic adventure!
Chapters:
Introduction 0:00
Day 1 - Brewster Hut 0:35
We depart from the resort town of Wanaka to the Mt Aspiring National Park via the scenic drive past Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka. We arrive at Fantail Falls and cross the Haast River followed by a steep climb through thick Beech forest up to the Brewster Hut. Here we are joined by 4 Cheeky Kea’s (Alpine Parrots) before witnessing the most spectacular sunset over the Southern Alps.
Day 2 - Brewster Glacier 11:45
Departing early from the Brewster Hut we endure another steep climb to the Glacier towering above. The views of the Glacier from its pass is absolutely phenomenal. We reach down to the glacier itself and check out some epic ice caves before taking a brave dip in its chilly meltwater pools below. We leave the Glacier behind for the big journey back down to the car park, where we started the day prior.
Join us on our next epic adventure as we explore the world famous natural wonders known as Milford Sound!

Thanks so much. This place is really on the map. I loved your commentary with information about the Keas and glad to hear that they are coming back a bit in some places. The weather you had was sensational. What time of year was it? Your insight about the glacier was a real antidote to the feeling of loss with the retreating ice. It’s the same in the places we visited in Alaska too. The idea that we are privileged to see it now as they will likely disappear is thoughtful. Best wishes

Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the commentary and found the information about the Keas insightful. The footage was captured during February. In the summer months, typically between December and February, the weather in that region is indeed sensational. It's bittersweet to witness the effects of climate change on glaciers, but you're right, it's a privilege to appreciate their beauty while we can. Best wishes to you as well!

Thanks for that. The weather is a tricky thing but I’ve had good luck at that time of year too. But good to bear in mind for the future trips hopefully.

Awesome video! Would you say it's pretty straightforward hiking from the hut to the glacier? I've read it's unmarked and pretty rocky and steep. Would you say it's still worthwhile to do the whole thing in a day?

I suppose it’s always subjective. It is quite rocky and steep to the glacier but I wouldn’t say it’s dangerous or anything. Doing it in a day would certainly be long and difficult but not impossible, maybe 8-10hrs I would guess..
