Early 1800....HELLO! Giirls of the aristocracy weren't told about sex in fear it would put them off getting married....and that Aristocratic men needed wife to be virgins so that they could guarantee that the child that inherited the title, property and LANDS was THEIR child AND THAT was why Charles was pushed to marry or leave Diana....and that was back in the 1980s....40 FORTY years ago!
@erincosta5653 жыл бұрын
The "family way" 🤣 Promiscuity happened a lot more than people realize. Girls were told the bare bones of how sex worked, but it was more about how to produce an heir than it was about real intimacy between a husband and wife. And to that point, especially among the upper tiers of society, marriage was more of a lottery or an auction, matching the most eligible bachelors with young women with the best dowries or favorable connections. Jane Austen wrote about the rare exceptions to that rule, as did the Bronte sisters. Marriage was more of a business transaction.

Daphne and the maid is such a wholesome moment, it seems so natural and fresh
@GabrielleHayes1921 Жыл бұрын
The fact that Daphne had to have her maid explain how to conceive a child was just so sad. Colin tried to explain it to Eloise without actually explaining it and if Eloise thought hard enough she should've walked her butt to a farm to figure it out. I understand they wanted to ensure they were always pure before marriage, but not explaining things is how some women could become very hurt by him lying about something because he's twisted (like you have to be cut with a knife everytime, and she could want a child so badly that she'd do it), or how they could become pregnant and not even know it because they didn't know the act they did would cause such a thing to happen.

She never actually wrote about sex directly. In 1813 that would have made her sheet the target of scorn from the ton. It's not surprising and it's actually very accurate. Girls, especially high class ones, in these times are meant to be kept ignorant of the topic till the actual marriage to keep them innocent (which is a very valued trait in this time) and have to figure it out on their own. The girls would be lucky enough to get taught from their moms. It's frustrating, however, accurate.

Guys, have you ever thought that in this part where Eloise and Penelope talk about how a woman has a baby, Penélope already knew how it was made and played it off. Think with me, women were raised innocently when it came to that, but Penelope is (Spoiler Alert) Lady Whistledown, she comments on the biggest scandals of high society and certainly sex scandals are involved in it. But, maybe she doesn't really know, because we see that Lady Whistledown was something new, in other words, she might not have had to comment on these types of scandals yet.

You guys it’s just trying to show the realities of those times and the woman knowing about sex would be “preposterous” and “horrible”

Aren't we going to talk about how Netflix keep evaporating younger siblings from the side-character's families? Well, I guess no one is mourning about the Berbrookes bunch, one is quite enough, but doesn't as least Feilicy deserves better? I know non of them has a reason to appear on screen yet, but lines like 1:21 and 2:03 make it sound like they don't even exist
