Mick Taylor wasn't hired to BE in the band, to look cool smoking with Keith, but he was hired to PLAY in the band, he took it as a job, his job was perfection, he made The Stones into a band where, particularly live shows, you really LISTENED instead of just loved the band for who they were... they needed him during the guitar-god era in 1969 and thank god he held on for four complete studio albums, one live album, one movie, and endless bootlegs...

Yes. A great album. All the Stones songs are my "favorite", but for me at the top of the list is Carol. It is the quintessential rock and roll song. Thanks to Mr Berry of course, but this "live" version (I read somewhere that it was cleaned up in the studio) just chugs and becomes airborne. You gotta dance!!! I don't know where Mick Taylor comes in on this particular song as Keith certainly knows his Chuck Berry riffs; but as a group unit performance, this song takes the cake.

When I was a little kid, I couldn’t count how many of times I would put on a record or tape of Mick Taylor playing with The Stones. I wore out records! Playing over and over till no more groves. Mick Taylor was the reason why I picked up the guitar. He was never flashy or played in a rush. He felt every note and took us on a journey. He vocabulary in his playing was unmatched. I will always love the Stones in all of their music, with Mick Taylor they were at a higher level. Many people say he was underrated, very true. How can he not be, he was with arguably the greatest rock band of all time. To me he was never underrated, but in reality he was. He never got the credit he deserved. He’s not even a millionaire, that’s uncanny. Jimmy Page is the other favorite of mine and is regarded as one of the greatest of all time. Two fantastic rock bands, one having the rock star status, the other just in so many of our hearts. I’m happy that today, there are so many Mick Taylor fans, we know he was one of the best. Thank you for the solos of 73’ me like so many, have played this so many times. Music never dies and maybe on day Mick Taylor will get the credit. Thank you for the video!

In 1972...when I was 15..... I used my cassette tape player to record the Stones off the radio from the "King Biscuit Flower Hour"....I listened to that until the tape broke. That's where I 1st really heard Mick Taylor. Just SO good and melodic. Almost TOO good for the more "street sounding" Stones. The solo on Heartbreaker still resonates in my head and almost brought a tear listening to this again.......Thank you

We are blessed with loads of great bootlegs of the Stones from this era. So that means loads of opportunity to hear how much Mick T contributed to the sound of the Stones. The Stones were the greatest band ever between about 1969 and 1973/4. Guess why.

Saw MT 4 times at the Forum 69. 72x2 and 1973. Then 3 in 75 at Forum. After the shows were over I thought to my self the sound mixer did a lousy job. Because I never heard a lead guitar. At that time I wasn’t aware that Mick Taylor provided that sound.

Never heard any of the famous guitar players of the 60's & 70's mention Mick Taylor. Not even one word. ? I think I know why they never mention him, and their silence speaks volumes. There has never been a more gifted guitar player than Mick Taylor, and they all know it. Very cool that people are still acknowledging his formidable skill, and his prowess. He was a very talented and gifted young man, and I don't believe he has been bested. I love to listen to all the greats, but to me, they { all of them }, finish behind Mick Taylor. " The people, they step back, when a young man walks by. "

Mick certainly made the greatest rock and roll band in the world better. Hard to imagine anyone could change the way the stones sounded. But there is a clear difference between sticky fingers an what came before. And you got to hand it to Richard's, he thrived with Taylor and did not appear to be threatened.

When i think of Sticky Fingers and Mick Taylor, two songs come to mind- the guitar solo in the latter half of Can't You Hear Me Knocking, and the cool swagger of Sway.
@yurolson

To my ear - its his tone - the way it cuts through that is so fantastic sounding. Then add to that the great notes along with excellent the phrasing. His melodic sensibility - not just flash for flash. Then all this adds up and you can tell how the guitar is responding to his touch through the choice of amps and strings and settings. Its all in the pudding - and it rocks. Its funk. Its fun. It bounces - always -there is soul. When Ronnie gets involved it becomes a bit to liquid as in inebriated if you will. There is no striving for creative tension. Micks playing adds tension and push to Bill and Charlie - keith is in the mix strumming his balls off. Of course the chemical cocktail is coursing through the blood which is having its effect on the important players. I can't imagine how energy they are expending to play through all this. It must have left the head ringing.
