This is the technical bit . . . You print it as a PDF (portable document file) or as an image, an electronic version of printing. It is saved to your hard drive or phone. You can them display the PDF on your smart phone screen. What can go wrong? 1. You can't find the PDF on your phone - this often happens when using multiple platforms like email, WhatsApp, Viber, etc. They are somewhere, but sometimes it takes yonks to find them. No internet connection sometimes means they can't be re-called it the pdf if it's been uploaded onto an on-line site. Sites, like Google Photos, can become 'full' and won't save, or back-up information. I just had that problem coming back from travelling - do I delete photos or documents to upload more photos and documents? 2. Sometimes the image or pdf cannot be read by electronic scanners. Never download a boarding pass this way - I've been unable to get through the check-in gate because if this failure. Someone then has to type in all my details manually into a terminal for me to proceed. Always get a printed boarding pass as check-in, it's their rules you are playing to, don't feel bad about the environment or you wouldn't be travelling. Printing them at home also runs the risk of reading failure, even with laser printers. 3. Phone battery runs out. This is the worse nightmare when you are in the middle of nowhere. 4. You lose, mislay your phone or it is stolen. 5. Security take your phone and deleted the pdf or image. I always have two email addresses and send myself copies - incompetence from security comes in many languages. And all this to save time and money to make it quicker and cheaper for the traveller.😮. . .and thermal mobile printer paper is heat sensitive and the image will disappear (go totally black) is the paper gets to warm. . .and it fades over time. I've looked into many ways and still rely on luck.

@@achimelale9974 to intentionally travel without a ticket is a criminal offence. I am not saying he is intentionally travelling without a ticket, he obviously just got confused, and the staff could have been professional, deescalated, and allow him to print the ticket. The reason I added the second bit about arresting him, is because if he had actually lied, and had travelled without a valid ticket, then he is liable for arrest. That doesn't mean he would be though. There is still the possibility that the rail company chooses to exercise their right to deal with it civilly in lieu of a criminal complaint. If he refused to give his details at that point, he would be arrested. However, imo, the staff seemed like douches, and would probably escalate it in that situation anyway

There are numerous metro networks in the world where you can buy your tickets in advance but you have to validate by some sort of stamping right before travel for the ticket to become valid for travel. In any case: Having paid for a ticket, but not following the rules for validating such a ticket (in your case printing the ticket) is considered traveling without a ticket and will incur a fine imposed by the operator of the network. This fine imposed by a commercial operator (not by authorities) is not imposing defraud by the traveler.

Firstly, no, no train operator anywhere, ever, refunds tickets after the specified time of travel unless it is due to infrastructural faults. The BTP officer is either lying about that or just slavishly believes the odious lies of the private companies he bizarrely believes he's the fare collecting agent of. Secondly, if a company erroneously awards a refund, it is legally upon their head. They can choose to pursue the refundee in court if they wish, but the onus to vouch the correct awarding of the refund is on them, not the consumer, and they have no right to bully your identity out of you because they want to take you to court. You have no obligations whatsoever as a potential defendant to aid a potential plaintiff in seeking litigation against you. Thirdly, no, you do not have to provide your details to anyone if you seek to pursue a case against them. Providing you know who they are, they have no obligation to know who you are until they've been served notice or subpoenad. Conversely we operate the John Doe system here in the UK which means the only people who are legally entitled to the identity of a person who will not willingly give it are judges and magistrates via subpoena. The police actually do not have a legal right to obtain one's identity and providing habeus corpus is maintained can pass someone anonymously all the way through the system right up until they're sitting in front of a judge or magistrate. Of course the fact that the police have no legal power to ascertain one's identity via force or legislation REALLY pisses them off because they like to think of themselves as judge, jury, and executioner, and they can't enter your details on the 'Persons of Interest Known to the Police' database that they then use to endlessly harass said listed persons in order to bump up their incident attendance and arrest numbers, so they'll do their level best to deceive, harass, hector, bully, and bamboozle it out of people. If you fall for their tactics and choose to give them your identity, that's on you, but the police have no power to drag it out of you.
