Well, another nice looking but sure to fail repair. This entire shaft fractured from torque probably applied from a shock load. Amazing there was no damage to the gear teeth, not that this was apparently checked? Now we've take a lot of strength out of the shaft by threading it and a replacement section. If you ever reach a 70% fit in lathe threading, you are far better at it than I am. Couple that with welding it together making it harden locally, thereby creating stress concentrations and chipping off the slag while the weld is still red hot, and you have a sure recipe for another fracture, in short order. I gave it a thumbs down.
