Unfortunately, Don's style of country guitar is pretty much extinct today. Now it's frantic, flashy, distortion drenched guitar in so-called country music. Don's understated and tasty licks will live on forever in Buck's recordings.

This is the apex of Buck Owens and the Buckaroos. The finest line-up ever. Watching this reminds us just how great Buck was. Not only was he a great singer but a wonderful writer and excellent guitarist. His rhythm playing is spot on. Kay Adams was as authentic a country singer as there ever was. Tommy Collins is one of the more underrated country artists. Great writer and singer. These shows are a treasure trove of amazing performances. Thanks for posting this!

All the people watching this is testament to the idea that great music never dies. It’s wonderful to see people still into this sound. Music has changed so much, the world is getting smaller every day but our need for sick beats will never die.

I was raised in this aria and time of country music, and it now has so much more meaning in my life with great memories. But the nicest thing it comes from a time when things were much slower, cities were smaller, less cars on the highway, and at 65yrs old it just hits the spot.

Brumley is in prime shape here as always. Not a phrase extraneous in “Together Again” and such purely lyrical styling. And his “Foolin Round” pickin!! Driving home the melody like no one’s business. Such a fun, soulful band. And Don on those electric flatwounds; what a great talent his voice, smile, pickin and fiddlin (though not on display here) was.

The Fender acoustic guitar that Buck Owens played was a popular guitar in the 1960’s, but many guitar collections said the guitars weren’t worth collecting. However, the way Buck plays it and the good sound he gets from it is like the old saying Making chicken salad out of you know what.

In early 1963, the Johnny Russell song "Act Naturally" was pitched to Owens. Owens was initially unimpressed, but Rich liked it, and they recorded it with The Buckaroos on February 12, 1963. It was released on March 11 and entered the charts of April 13. By June 15, the single began its first of four nonconsecutive weeks at the number-one position. It was Owens' first number-one hit. RIP gentleman.

I was most impressed with Kay's' Roll Out the Red Carpet'. An old song but I heard it for the first time. She expresses great excitement and happiness over the about to happen arrival of a loved one. Her facial expressions, excellent voice, clearly pronounced words, timing to the song beat and most importantly the enthusiasm, carried me away to the extent that I have been hearing the song over and over again. The song is not about sadness or blues it creates a sense of unexplainable musical ecstasy , a pure human emotion rarely encountered.

Real professionals ! Country music just ain't the same without Buck, Patsy, Don, Tammy, George, Hank, Waylon, Faron, Conway, Loretta, Webb, Jim, Lynn, Dottie, Marty, Merle, Porter, the Charlies, and so many others who have passed from the scene. At least we have them on film, tape and disk. I wonder if there are any 3D clips of any of them?!

I hope this doesn't come across as a stupid comment, but on top of the fantastic music and performance, I just love the mariachi-inspired outfits -- slim and very 60s, sequins and embroidery, great fabrics (did I see silk shantung here?). I used to be a fishkeeper who had a betta. If I ever get another betta, I'm going to name him "Buck" because this would be right up his alley. Buck, Buckaroos, RIP to the departed members. You have brought so much good into this world. Thank you.

It's interesting to note that the classic song "Together Again" as performed here includes Don Rich on harmony vocals. The original studio version is Buck and only Buck. It was always performed live with Don Rich singing harmony. Also interesting is the fact that most of Buck's '60s recordings didn't have Don singing harmony. Buck would overdub his own voice singing harmony. He claims the reason he did this is because it was expedient when on the clock in the studio to save time. Too bad because they sounded amazing singing together live.

I had the "blessing ", in my life, of growing up in Bakersfield,Ca when none but us "local yokels" knew, or knew of, the great performers who originated the "Bakersfield sound" ... Buck, Merle. Ferlin Husky ... known back then as "Terry Preston" a local Country DJ whose paper I delivered during his afternoon broadcast ... I was not yet "of age" when I fake ID.'d my way into the Blackboard, The Lucky Spot and Tex's Barrel House to party to the music of those I have mentioned ... and the many others who contributed to a style of music that became famous ... worldwide ... yes It was one of my life's blessings ...

Donald Eugene Ulrich (August 15, 1941 - July 17, 1974), best known by the stage name Don Rich, was an American country musician who helped develop the Bakersfield sound in the early 1960s. He was a noted guitarist and fiddler, and a member of The Buckaroos, the backing band of Don's best friend, country singer Buck Owens. Rich was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1974 at the age of 32. 🎙️🎙️🎸🎸🎙️🎙️🎸🎸🎙️🎙️

These great programs remind me of the Midwestern Hayride shows broadcast out of Cincinnati in the 1960s. One of the stars of that long-running program wound up starring with Buck later on Hee Haw...the Round Mound of Sound, Kenny Price. These regionally produced shows feature the raw talent of the stars. No computer generated sounds, graphics, etc. You had to have real singing & musical talent to make this work.

B. Owens is an excellent guitarist. I remember him playing a Red White and Blue 00 Flat Top Accoustic. A nonconformist. The Lyrical content of his songs posses an ayre of high morales that demands respect. We could eliminate alot of talentless performers that crowd the stage nowadays and be satistifactortaly entertained with a few more like Buck Owens
