Owned the same St220 since 05. Great car and I'd never part with it. Only exterior upgrade is 19" Focus RS (mk2) alloys with diamond cut finish for OEM look. They will do 35mpg on a commute. Bullet proof reliability. Rare here in Ireland due to road tax (€1494 a year).

I just bought my first St220 there last week, I’m up north need to fix body work and brakes but apart from that it’s lovely to drive. Thankfully only £395 tax for the year. Expensive but nothing compared to down south 😮

Mondeo's are a great car to drive even the diesels, i bought a 2.0tdci and it was brilliant just didnt have the V6 noise ! I loved it in the twisty's !!

As a 2.2 TDCI ST Owner, mine being an 05 plate panther black Saloon, its wonderfully practical and economical, on a 260-mile run (from Manchester to Ryde,IOW) I got a return of 53 mpg and I wasn't exactly cruising either , gotta be careful as the throttle is so light your doing 120mph before you know it ;) but I did initially want an ST220, love the sound of the V6 & to be honest its great for the island as you can't really do the mileage, so the fuel economy for the V6 isn't really a problem. The V6 sounds amazing for an NA engine especially with an exhaust system on it, and so does the Diesel to be fair and it'll fly past most things with the torque from the turbo which is more than the ST220, so its debatable whats quicker, because they both drive amazingly well.

Ooh fellow 2.2 panther black saloon owner :P I love mine. I always wanted a 220 saloon after owning a 2.0 petrol hatch, then a 2.2 Titanium X hatch.. I could never find one, then a mate of mine was selling his diesel saloon and I couldn't say no.. and yep I agree you gotta pay attention to your speed lol.. I got caught at 86 and I had no idea I was going that quick. Though to be fair it was half 4 in the morning on an empty motorway, so no other cars around to judge your speed. Came up over a hill and there they were sitting in a layby with the speed gun haha Going for a hybrid turbo and a rolling road remap in the next few months and I can't wait.. Approaching ST220 power levels with probably twice the torque but half the fuel bill 🤣🤣

@@DavidB445 I have a 2.2 titanium X hatch too but sadly its not currently roadworthy and going through the sorn process atm, yh man hybrid turbo all the way, get an exhaust system on it, get that choo off the turbo, hopefully get a few mods to mine done soon, wish I had parking sensors though as the saloon is a pain to see out the back window of tbh. In comparison to the hatch which had it which did make it easier but I think the pre face-lift saloons are better looking than the facelifted ones tbh.

@@rawboy141 Yeah mine is a 56 so final facelift with the wider side skirts etc. I've got a 220 style twin exit straight through exhaust and decat so plenty choo from the turbo and pretty loud for a diesel lol, although going to stick a small centre silencer on once I have the hybrid just to keep a little backpressure as a full straight through isn't good for these turbos. Been dyno proven to lose 5-10hp down in the lower rpms with a straight through. Just need to get a larger intercooler and then send my spare turbo away to be rebuilt. I don't even have it mapped just now so going straight to a hybrid is going to be a massive difference. Didn't see the point paying to do it twice when I already had the plan to go for a hybrid turbo. It's maybe running around 160-165hp as it is now and hoping to see around 210hp once it's done, although its the torque increase that'll be the most noticeable :)

Yeh I also have diesel version 06 and it pushes back into your seat when u need it too, need it remapped as got airtec intercooler and Twin custom exhaust system made for it by IWS Developments love the choo sound on it, everyone thinks I've got a dump valve fitted lol but yeh great underrated cars

Loved my diesel St. Remapped, fmic and decatted With full exahuadt system and manifold. Used to surprise many cars on the motorways. 60 and onwards used to dust alot of cars. Meanwhile using very little fuel and the beemer driver just spent a 10r in fuel keeping up with me 😂😂

Good video, i am currently working on a ST220 over on my Channel got to love the car its an all rounder decent car. Good space for family and leaves a smile on ya face when you put your foot down. and there around 222bhp from factory, torque 280Nm with a top speed 155mph. Maybe you should check it out, currently working on the poly bushes on the front subframe. Keep the video's coming.

Glad to see you jumping in a Mondeo and seeing what they're like, very underrated cars. They go well for a 12+ year old family hatch. Although now you've driven an ST220 I think you should find a 2.2 ST TDCI that's been mapped, or if you can, find one with a hybrid turbo. 200+hp and probably twice the torque of the 220. Doesn't sound quite as nice as the v6 but with a decent exhaust the diesel has a nice deep grunt to it and won't empty your wallet after taking it a blast round some B roads haha 👍

Had one of these in the past. The 06 year. But, tbh I love the previous version more. Had a ST200 -00. And that was a absolute blast. My ST220 constantly broke down. There where oil leaks everywhere... Currently have a focus ST -16 and I miss the ST200 more than ever

Love my diesel st as have got fitted Airtec intercooler IWS custom made cat back twin exit exhaust system Lowered 30/40 on crap springs if I'm being honest need coilovers lol But the car gets driven fast everywhere as its just a great car to drive, good torque to push back in your seat fast enough obviously not to keep up with bigger turbocharged cars but enough to put a smile on my face everytime I drive it. As its a Ford things need doing to it but wouldn't change it such an under rated car that is full of comfort, practical and economical.

These things are damn handsome, and cheap as all hell. Sure they’re a bugger to run cost wise but they’re brilliant. For the price the only thing I can think of that offers just as much - if not more practicality - and maybe a similar amount of enjoyment is something like an 850 T5

Yeah diesel is horrible I had one and it wasn't that fast, fun or generally good to own. Flywheels are 800 plus to replace, injectors rush about 150 each, egrs break, turbo actuators on euro 4s break, crankshaft pulleys fail, veins in turbo get choked n stop moving, Apart from that the torque when the diesel is working is great and their cracking looking motors n practical as hell. Oh and when straight piped the marmite growl followed by the turbo coooo from the exhaust was the best bit

Think it's down to quality of fuel you put in too with diesels , done an experiment with using supermarket fuel and BP Ultimate diesel and can say that MPG goes down and car smokes a lot more on supermarket fuel compared to BP fuel, yes it costs more but better for the car.

There was a massive credit bubble in the mid 2000s and too finance deals were being given to anyone with a pulse. This killed the sporty/luxury models from mainstream brands and people all bought Mercs, BMWs or Audis for a ‘few more quid a month’. So these unfashionable forgotten mainline brand cars are bargains with incredible specs and fun to burn.

I sadly will have to sell my diesel fiesta zetec s and get a cheap petrol which is as cheap to run but lack power. A lot of low income drivers / parents who rely on cheap diesels may become carless. The government should improve public transport first before getting the public involved such as getting lower emission buses and taxis. Sadiq Khan is saying to taxi drivers he wants them to drive zero emission cars for them not to be charged. So a prius is now bad for the environment? Black cabs which are old and polluting are exempt which is stupid. Personally I'm thinking when I start full time work and save for a property I'll move outside London. Getting fed up also on the number of bad drivers in my area and no offence its these Eastern Europeans

@@jasonjuggler3457 It's marginally detuned - 217hp vs 225hp. There are some differences - fuelling, engine management and especially with RS and it's plasma coated liners/larger turbo - but all parts bolt right on since it's the same block.
