Sam, I'm 14 and at boarding school, you inspired me to start lifting so i saved up to buy a set of adjustable dumbbells and use them in my room. I also have access to the school gym two days a week for an hour a day and I've started eating 2 serving of dinner (the food here is pretty bad everyone thinks so). I'm 180cm tall (probably a bit more i measured a few months ago and I'm sitting around 60kg looking like a twig but when i get a good arm and chest pump i feel pretty good, thanks man you have helped me start my gym journey.

I had a full pec major tear off the bone hitting a 315 max and it took me 3 years to build back up to benching 315. Do everything in your power to avoid that injury Edit: It happened in a powerlifting meet. I weighed around 170 at the time. Had hit 320 in training 2-3 weeks before the meet. I wasn’t fully warmed up. The 455lb squat right before shocked my nervous system. Didn’t sleep well the night before and it was freezing cold in the facility.

Never do maxes on anything I would say dont do flat bench at all. We all have ego lift on that lift. Nobody tries to Max out dumbbells, Smith machine or incline.
@marken8163 ай бұрын
@@Djdkdkdndkzn1 Nah. Don't max out if you're not used to maxing out. Especially on gear. For people accustomed to high intensity sets at 90+% of their 1rm, hitting that single PR is not unsafe at all, or not any unsafer than repping. But yes, bench press is THE injury lift, long term.

the skinny fat thing hit home. i'm now 53 and 4 years ago i quit a 37 year pack a day cigarette habit, and i went from just skinny at the time, 6ft 125lbs, to 163lbs today. due to some underlying health issues i can't really go too hard with the weights, but i do as much as i can as often as i can, in addition to my minimum 6k steps a day, and even then i can see a bit of a difference. i still have a bit of a belly but it's not getting any bigger and i feel better.

Need the opposite scenario of “skinny fat” now. I’m a fat guy who never lifted, had a leg injury that put me in a wheelchair for 16 weeks and then got an office job. Long story short, picked up the muffin top and am comfortable just sitting all day while now getting to 245lb at 6’0 with (what my Amazon scale says) is 30% body fat. I have started lifting weights, stationary bike and treadmill routine 3-4 times a week before I head to work while getting in some protein in order to build the muscle I never had. Stuck in that awkward phase where I thankfully see muscle development in my biceps and chest, but I don’t see body fat going anywhere. I tell myself the new muscle is replacing the fat weight so it looks like I’m at a plateau, but this same scale says I haven’t lost any body fat %. This is kinda demoralizing. Advice? Thank you so much for the daily motivation and videos for me. You’re the reason I started this journey.

For better context on your ww2 plane analogy, they thought putting more armor on the wings would be the fix, but the actual issue was when planes did get hit in the engine they didn't come back, but if they got hit in the wings they could come back. The actual solution was putting more armor on the hull of the plane. A good analogy of something may look like you need to fix it but it is really an entirely different problem.
