@FollowChristNotMan2 ай бұрын
@kalebgullan4157 what Sam said, but kf you prefer the greek english interlinear just to learn the koine greek then you may want the same with the septuagint. Mainly because you can see similarities between word use and translation. Also while many will tell you that the masoretic is more accurate simply because it goes 100% from Hebrew to English. Realize a few things. 1 the translation differences from hebrew-greek-english aren't that severe in most places. However you will find several areas where the mesoretic covers up evidence from the old testament of christ referred to I'm the jew testament. It will show plainly in the greek of the septuagint where the masoretic may have missing sections. The new testament references to the old testament tend to align far more readily with the septuagint, which was compiled 100-200 BC. Where as the masoretic is much more recent, and also ads in alot of punctuation and other bits and bobs. Remember not to argue over words amd focus on following the word...reading the bible alone is not a good work but rather to prepare you for them.

Thank you, Pastor Dwayne! It is good to hear from this kind and helpful scholar concerning the R-P edition of the Byzantine Textform. What a labor of love it was, and Dr. Robinson's Appendix regarding Byzantine Priority is an added bonus to the 2005 Edition. This volume is my "go to" in my (admittedly) elementary GNT studies.

Orthodox church has some NT translations of the byzantine texts that the orthodox church likes such as: 1> Holy Apostles Convent. 2> eob by Fr. Laurent Cleenewerk Pr (presbyter) who served as editor. He is also working on a orthodox catechism that is almost complete, after that, he will probably continue the eob OT translation from the septuagint.

"Always leave the audience wanting more!"... Just kidding sort of 😋 I usually make the parts about 15-20 minutes, but it didn't make sense to split it there. I do this for 2 reasons. 1) Most youtube viewers have a shorter attention span and I find that the longer I go, the less of the video people watch. and 2) Editing takes a significant amount of time (sometime 8 hours per segment) so it keeps me sane by splitting them like this.

Majority texts are more up to date compared to the 1600s TRs. There are some translations from 1 or more of the majority texts: WEB (world english bible), ALT (Analytical Literal Translation), MLV (Modern Literal Version), ACV (A Conservative Version), NTV (new tyndale version), WPNT (Wilbur Pickering New Testament), EMTV (English Majority Text Version).

Two other groupings of manuscripts, they are rather small. The western text-type is typically characterized by scribal expansion, and lots of interpolation. The Ceasarean text is found in only a handful of manuscripts, and many question weather we could even consider it a grouping.

If study the details of textual criticism that gives the critical text, the details make a lot of sense. For example, textual criticism has good explanations for how the masoretic text has lost phrases bec of common copying errors and if you restore the lost phrases from septuagint and or samaritan pentateuch and or dead sea scrolls and or syriac, the OT verse suddenly makes a lot more sense. This is probably the reason why critical text experts usually do not even bother to debate with defenders of the majority text and the defenders of the 1600s TRs, bec people who oppose the critical text just do not look educated compared to defenders of the critical text.

To be able to maintain beliefs in byzantine text which has plenty of copying errors (like the orthodox church which is influenced mainly be tradition), beliefs in majority text and 1600s TRs all having plenty of copying errors (also influenced by tradition), have to reject plenty of evidence used to form the expert consensus behind the critical text. Catholic church also defended the latin vulgate (based on texts with plenty of copying errors) for ages mainly for the love of tradition until the vatican II reforms of the mid 1960s, when that catholic church finally admitted that the critical text was really better than the old texts and old translations backed up by long ages of tradition. The same catholic church reforms of the mid 1960s also gave up opposing the theory of evolution which is backed up by lots of evidence accepted by science consensus. Belief in creation is only possible if reject lots of evidence from the science consensus.

One of the strongest reasons for preferring the MT over the CT is that the same God who I inspired the original, without errors, also cared deeply about preserving the process of its transmission! Seems logical right? Not to the supporters of the subjective approach to “finding the original text.” That the MT exists and has been clearly and mightily used of God in the propagation of His Word throughout the ages, we really ought to have a high degree of respect for and confidence in it! Those who set it aside whether their motives are sincere or otherwise, are guilty of a very grave error. “God is not the author of confusion.”

Why some have problems with Reasoned eclecticism. I John 5:7 is found in a majority of the Latin, but not the Greek so out it goes. Good will towards men Doxology in Matthew Without cause God manifest in the flesh Are a majority in the Greek but not in the Latin, so out they go The PA and Mark 16:9-20 are a majority in both the Greek and Latin so out they go. Even the “not yet” found in the two of the earliest(P66.P75) in John 7:8 some throw out. If as an orthodox Christian you don't see a problem, what would you see as a problem?
@Dwayne_Green2 жыл бұрын
Though I agree with most of this, I still find 1 John 5:7 problematic. Isn't it strange that a text would appear in a translation, but be practically non existent in the Greek manuscripts?
