The C7 Chevy Corvette Z06 Can Do WHAT On The Race track?
Hello everyone and welcome back to Brink of Speed! Today this video is all about me taking my 2015 C7 Chevy Corvette Z06 to the race track and showing you what it can do! I will also be giving you an update on the Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires that I just had installed on my car.
You will get see me and Jason from Front Seat Driver, driving our Corvette's on the race track! You will also get to see me hanging out with JT from CarzGuyz_JT and Justin from HorsePower Obsessed.
This was my first time ever driving on a wet track and there is great footage of that, plus it was the first time on these new tires. Check out the video to see how well this Z06 Corvette did on the new tires, in the wet and the dry!

Hey there John, thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed it! It was so much fun hanging out with those guys for the whole weekend! Jason brought his Lambo to the track but only took his Grand Sport out on the track. We weren't in the same class as each other, so we weren't on the track at the same time. Have a safe trip back home and enjoy the heck out of your Z06!!

+Brink of Speed I had the same tires on a 997.2 C2S. Had the same results in the wet & dry. However Contis have a notorious problem of wearing the center of the tire faster as if they were over inlated,,, when they not. Had this problem with the Extreme Contacts and several sets of DWS on a different car. But wait there's more, after about 3k total miles on the Extreme Contacts which included 2 track days, I decided to have the 2 rear tires on the 911 swapped (side to side). In the process of dismounting both tires were destroyed. The force of the dismounting pushed right through the sidewall. The work was performed by a shop I have used for 20 years and this was a first. Ultimately the sidewalls were as flimsy as paper and I suspect the heat had turned them to mush. Your results may vary but I have had zero luck with anything Conti. Beware.

Bob OHara Thanks for the heads up Bob, I won’t be tracking this tires again. They are definitely too soft of a tire to push hard on a track! I’m going to look for extra wheels and tires for this car, that way I can have a set of cup 2’s for the track.

C8 might come out as a 2021 model so i would get a z06 now, then you'll have a good 3 years to enjoy the car. The base C8 will probably suck anyway and have a lot of bugs that need working out so i'm sure the high hp models of the C8 will come around 2022-2023. You have a lot of time to enjoy a C7 z06. get one now. I have a '16 and i too am waiting for the C8. I had the Z for 3 years and it's amazing but i'm ready for something newer and better. "Pushing the car to MY limit" is one of the most intelligent statements I have heard on youtube. Good to see the Contis work well, I have a set on another car and never had any issues. Good tire. Question: Was track insurance offered? How much was it for TMS and your Z?
@BrinkofSpeed
@BrinkofSpeed 5 жыл бұрын
Well thank you very much, Curtis, this Z06 is a beast of a car and I'm not too proud or afraid to say, there is no way I could push it to its limits! Yeah, they did for as long as they could in the dry, but treaded tires are just going to get too hot and start getting slick. Track insurance wasn't offered that I know of, they actually said that because this wasn't a timed event and more of a "learning" event (they had lots of beginners there) that our own insurance would cover the damages even though we were at a track. Thank you for your kind words and support as usual bro!

First off, a big Save the Wave to all you Corvetteers! I'm sure your weekend was as much fun as a Weekend at Bernies! lol Mike, it must have been cold on track day in that I think you had a brain freeze. Then again, I may be having one up hear in the Ice Box. I didn't know you had '14 ZO6. Is that a one-of-one? I've never seen one. ;-) Now for some comments/questions: 1. I think it's great that you chose to drive on a wet track. I don't know if I would have ventured to do that, but, keep in my mind, I wear a belt AND suspenders. lol Anyway, would the track officials actually let you drive in the rain to really experience a wet track? If not, how do they measure/determine when the track is just too wet to let you drive it? 2. Now, this question is for all four you, so feel free for anyone to jump in. With the different main driving modes and I don't know how many sub-modes the C7's have, I didn't know that there was a Track Wet Mode. I know in one of Justin's uploads he went through an extensive monologue on the electronics, but I don't remember a specific Track Wet Mode. Also, is "wet mode" different than Weather Mode? 3. I'm not usually one to comment on exhaust noise/tone, but what rpm were you at when you were driving that straight section in front of the camera? You said your ZO6 is stock with dual-mode exhaust, but man, with the exhaust flaps open it didn't sound stock. It sounded great! 4. Now, as to the Food Critic you had with you from Pa., that JT guy from Burgers R Us, what is an In/Out burger. Is that like an upside/down cake? 5. Nice to hear your review of the Continental tires. I love my Michelins, but nice to know there is an alternative. 6. Just curious. Were you able to watch either of the C5 or C6 ZO6s run? They both caught my eye. Save the Wave Corvetteers.

Peter Carey lol thanks Peter! Lol I was having a huge brain fart, not a freeze 🥶 I don’t know why I put 2015 but it’s changed now. As far as the track being wet, I was excited to drive on a wet track for the first time, it really teaches you to be even more smooth! I don’t think they would have held the track event if it were raining 🌧 only pros drive in conditions like that. There actually is 5 settings within Track Mode, (Wet) (Dry) (Sport 1) (Sport 2) (Race). I was in (Wet mode) when it was wet and (Sport 1) when it was dry. Yes my exhaust is stock and yes it does sound like it’s not, but it is. That sentence just made me think of using Mitch Hedberg’s logic. My exhaust used to be stock, it still is stock, but it used to be too! 🤣😂🤣 I hope that answered your questions perfectly and as far as JT goes, he is definitely a foodie! BTW, I used up lots of waves at the track as I was passing by other cars, I may need you to send me a dozen or more! 😜
@petercarey6883
@petercarey6883 5 жыл бұрын

@kingbrutusxxvi
@kingbrutusxxvi 5 жыл бұрын
@@BrinkofSpeed Oh, don't get me wrong, I totally understand. It's just that all of these super-powerful cars being released the last few years with an automatic transmission are putting the wrong people behind the wheel of cars they can't drive safely. Clearly you know how to drive a vehicle like a Z06 but most owners have little or no ability and never would have considered a car with 500, 600, 700 or even 800hp until these companies got so greedy they started building automatics to make more sales. I grew up in Europe at a time when you had to take 6 months of driving lessons (on a manual only) to even qualify to get a driver's license and then you were only allowed to drive a small car with a V6, or smaller, engine. You couldn't take the test for a larger vehicle, sports car or motorcycle until you were over 21 (25 for Ferraris, etc.) and had a clean license without a single serious ticket (parking tickets were okay, within reason). In this country any idiot can take a test at 16, buy any car they can afford and drive like a lunatic through traffic endangering everyone else. I'm glad to see you taking the Z06 on the track, where it belongs, since I rarely get mine out there. Like I said, I totally understand getting a car that is accessible to the Mrs. since you can teach her how to drive it safely (if she doesn't already know, of course). Cheers.

Give it up already! What these mediocre cars can do on a closed track with pros behind the wheel is just that. In the real world they simply aren’t very good. Pushing a Vett is a death wish. It’s not stable at speed unlike better cars. End of story! Every generation GM promises that the new Vett will be the one to take on the Europeans and every generation fails. Being better than the older models is not much of an achievement. Being better or even as good as Europe’s best is still a dream.
