There’s a view among gear heads that the Jaguar speakers have this tendency to make anything, tube amp and otherwise, sound rather solid state-ish. Some people say that pejoratively while others see it as a great benefit and equaliser. Even one of Ola Englund’s blind tests had him truly stumped when the Randall Jaguar cabinet was introduced with a Revv Generator. Ola was convinced that it was a modeller and kept wondering where the “sizzle” went. Once the blindfold was removed, he immediately concluded that it was the cabinet that threw him off as the Jaguar loaded cabinets have a very unique affect on the sound of most amps.

I used to work for Randall in the early 2000's and I'm guessing the speakers were made by Eminence. I know early Randall was trying to cop Marshall's tone so I think G12T75 or Greenbacks might be a better substitute but if you want Dime's tone you need Jaguars. I personally think Vintage 30's are the most consistent way to get studio-worthy tone. Doug Smith was the head of Randall at that time and alluded to the JCM800 2210 model being the inspiration for the early Randall heads.
@EricMorettin5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the insight! Yes I believe the Randall speakers were made by eminence, since the jags sound very close to the eminence legends. V30s can be great depending how broken in they are and what cab/grille cloth etc. But they're an industry standard for a reason. Very cool to know that early Randalls were based off JCM 800s, as I've heard that through reading forums and looking at schematics. Your insight is greatly appreciated!!

Based on pictures people post of these Jaguar speakers online, there are 2 manufacturers based on the code on the driver. One is Credence the other is Eminence. I think the closest speaker to Jaguars today is (spec-wise) the Legend 1275s (75w, 8 ohms, 1,5" vcd with kapton former, paper cone, wide zurette dust cap, 8 ribs, only differences being the sensitivity which is 102 db and the resonance which is 58 hz on the jaguars). Tho they are outta production they are much easier to find on eBay than Jaguars anywhere, not sure if they sound anything like eachother tho.
@EricMorettin21 күн бұрын
Thanks for the detailed input here!!
@SalamiSnak515021 күн бұрын
@@EricMorettin But I think that the reason that Jaguars sound the way they do is cuz of their very deep resonance which is kinda low for a guitar speaker since most guitar speakers are in the 75-110 hz range. I read somewhere that the lower the resonance of a speaker the more it adds to the bass and eats out the higher mids (which is probably why Jaguars "don't have a real presence" as Ola once said). I checked on loudspeaker database and i found a 15 inch guitar speaker (Eminence PF-400) that is also out of production and it has the same resonance and SPL as a Jaguar. Planning on testing em out at some point.
